They seem pretty far apart on some issues too.
MLB's final proposal, which was delivered before 4 p.m. Tuesday, featured an increase from $25 million to $30 million in a pre-arbitration bonus pool each year for the length of the deal, while the union wants to begin with $85 million in the pool and go up by $5 million each year. On collective balance tax thresholds, the league's last offer remained the same as its previous one, which started at $220 million and was flat for three years before going up to $224 million in Year 4 and $230 million in Year 5. The union wants to start at $238 million with raises to $244 million, $250 million, $256 million and end at $263 million.
i keep waiting for the MLB owners to realize putting a good product on the field and having positive narrative momentum year to year will make you more money in the long run than quibbling over money every damn year

I kinda hope they don’t have a start to the season and the have to deal with even less viewership when it finally starts.
Interest in baseball is already waning and TV ratings have been declining for decades. Doesn't seem like a great time to have this lockout, but what do I know. Cancelling games, maybe the whole season, this is going to be a disaster for them.

And yet there is more money than ever in the sport which is a big part of the negotiations here. Players know that the owners are signing absurdly wealthy tv deals and now selling off playoff rights for an expanded playoff that doesn't even exist yet. I think I saw that it'll take over a month of missed games before the owners stand to lose any money (on this season), so this could drag out awhile.

We've been hearing baseball's popularity constantly "waning" but the league keeps getting bigger and TV deals more and more lucrative. Doesn't at all square up to perceptions.

Baseball has been a dying sport for 100 years according to people who don't like baseball.
I do think a prolonged labor struggle will hurt the sport again, but I also think the baseball is dying narrative is played out.
I might be an old crusty dude here, and a minority opinion as well, but I hate this and really hate bringing a DH to the NL
There seemed to be a lot of momentum towards a deal today, but it didn't get done. MLB has announced another week of games are canceled.

Getting old sucks
The logic of a draft lottery in a sport like baseball is beyond me. The draft is already a total shot in the dark and the prospects are all years and years away from making the majors. Seems like looking for a problem where there isn't one.
Nothing about banning the shift, thankfully. Don’t care either way about the universal DH one - always thought pitchers hitting is a waste of time.

• A 45-day window for MLB to implement rules changes -- among them a pitch clock, ban on shifts and larger bases in the 2023 season

Yup tbey we’re taking about it in the radio. I like the strategy of pitching changes and a pitcher hitting and I think a hitter should learn to you know, go the other way.
Larger bases … why? Wtf

Baseball is the one sport where this is kinda acceptable lol
By blackace Go To PostThank god they are banning shifts 😂
This is just ugly baseball
What’s ugly is the hitter has that open field and can’t do fuck all with it lol

By Fenderputty Go To PostImagine somone trying the shift on Tony GwynnYou would just do it to his whodafuck teammates and make it so his bats means nothing?
Minor shifts are ok and everything but that ugly shit is gone and the game will be more interesting for it
Like most change I’ll probably come around after some time. I think the shift is so prominent now becuze everyone is hitting in the air and long. Maybe I’m just nostalgic, but I don’t think the shift would have been as successful back in Tony’s time.
DH and no shift with a pitch clock … definitely gonna add runs to the board
We’ll see. For now I’m team fuck that noise
Like dudes used to be able to bunt lol tbat open field

As a casual watcher of baseball I’m all for the pitch clock. Some of these people take way too fuckin long.

The Braves landed the highly coveted Olson from the Oakland Athletics for two of their top prospects -- outfielder Cristian Pache and catcher Shea Langeliers -- along with minor league pitchers Ryan Cusick and Joey Estes.

Winker and third baseman Eugenio Suarez are headed to Seattle in exchange for right-handed pitcher Justin Dunn, outfielder Jake Fraley, 2019 second-round pick Brandon Williamson, a left-handed pitcher and a player to be named later.
