Drop 2 of 3 to the White Sox, split 4 with Detroit.

By Smokey Go To Posti remember the first two weeks of the season was nothing but the YANKEES ARE BYKE
These are lies. Yankees started the season 9-9. Then they got hot and only then were they back.
Despite their pitching being shit since the all-star break, and despite their hitting also being shit since the break, and despite all the injuries to key players, they're still sitting there with the second best record in baseball (note: everyone else is also shit). It's just that it means fuck all since they're a thousand games behind Boston so they'll be in the wild card play-in game playing Russian roulette with their sorry ass starting rotation and bullpen.

Jacob deGrom allowed one run over six innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Monday.Cy deGrom is beast.
DeGrom broke Dwight Gooden’s single-season major-league record -- established in 1985 -- by allowing three earned runs or fewer for the 25th consecutive start. He’s gone at least six innings and allowed one run or fewer in 16 starts this year, yet the Mets’ record is somehow only 9-7 in those contests. The 30-year-old right-hander further cemented his status as the consensus choice for the NL Cy Young Award, tossing six innings of one-run ball against a loaded Dodgers lineup. He struck out six batters and only issued one walk. He also helped his own cause with a pair of hits, including a game-tying RBI single in the fifth inning. He's recorded an RBI in four of his last six starts. Are you not entertained? deGrom is 8-8 with a major league-leading 1.68 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 230/42 K/BB ratio in 28 starts. He’ll face the Phillies at home in his next start on Sunday.
Yankees finally got a hit in the sixth in Oakland. (Two had previously reached on errors, both immediately caught up in double plays.) Their last hit was in the fifth inning yesterday.
Their only saving grace is that JA Happ has only given up 1 run (solo HR).

So basically, if you throw at someone's head, hit their bat just two inches behind the head, that counts as a strike.
Seriously, Oakland swapped pitchers after the hit, first pitch was right at Gardner's head, and because he ducked, the ball hit the bat that was still on his shoulder. They called it a foul ball.
Edit: And now the Yankees' lone hit was cleaned up, picked off at first. Yankees are shit.

Another 3-0 count, another long stare at the best pitch you'll see all night. :/
Edit: Got to 3-2, fouled off strike 3, at least worked a walk. Also walked in a run, because the Yankees finally got a couple of hits and an earlier walk to load the bases.
1-1, no outs in the 7th. Bases still loaded.

By Smokey Go To Postyankees be good for something, christ
It's not May or June, so probably not happening. Middling team since July 1. 54-27 on that date (tied with Boston in the standings after beating them that day, 11-1), 32-25 since.
And Oakland gets out of the bases loaded, no out jam with 2 strike outs and a pop up in foul territory.
By unknown Go To Postwe back like mak, told ya.
I realize Robertson just came in and got 3 strike outs in the 7th, but I don't exactly trust the bullpen to hold the 2-1 lead.
Well well, wheels are coming off for a bullpen, but this time it's not the Yankees'. 4-1, 2 on, no out in 9th.
Edit: 5-1, to the bottom of the 9th. Hold the line.

An MRI showed that Shohei Ohtani has new damage to the UCL in his right elbow, and Tommy John surgery is being recommended.
Awful news. Ohtani had just returned to the mound on Sunday, and was able to complete just 2 1/3 innings with a sharp drop in velocity in the last inning against the Astros. The Angels said that the drop in velocity was due to tightness in his back and issues with a finger, but after undergoing an MRI, there's new damage to the UCL. If he does undergo Tommy John surgery, we may not see the right-hander back on the mound until 2020. He's still in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers, so it's possible we still see him swing the bat as a DH next year. Nevertheless, this is still truly awful news for one of the most exciting players in the game right now.
Got the bases loaded in the top of the first in Oakland. 2 outs. Can the Yankees capitalize?
I'm thinking no.
I'm thinking no.
Severino getting rocked in the first inning. What else is new.
Happ got hit around in his previous start before yesterday, but he has otherwise been a solid addition. I'm writing him in as the wild card play-in game starter.

It wasn't just Severino having a rough first, so did Gary Sanchez. He can't catch, so at least he's hitting a buck-85, so that makes up for it.
...
Bottom of the second inning incoming.

6-0 Oakland. Severino doesn't make it through the third.
