I think the issue is that they still have a lot of apps that ask you to swipe from the side to bring up the menu, which is also how you go back now. This is from their old style guide when they wanted everybody to use those hamburger menus.
Yea, and on Android swiping up from the bottom activates the app drawer but if you hold it for a split second it also brings up multi-tasking. That part is a bit weird/unintuitive to me. You get used to it but the same gesture serves three functions: app drawer, multitask viewer, go to homescreen.
On iOS, it just handles go to homescreen and multitask viewer depending on speed of the gesture. On Android you have to kinda do an extra sorta sensitive thing in addition to. Not a big deal just unintuitive.

The gestures are just shit to me on Android. I've tried it for days at a time since updating to Android 10 a few months ago and it's just not as practical as a home + back button.
Options are great so it's nice to have three now. But I know that newly released phones have outright killed the pill and back button. It's either gestures or the old three button shit, which is just such typical Google behavior to abandon something for no reason after a certain amount of time.
There was nothing wrong with Android 9's pill and back button. It offered all the functionality of the three button navigation with one less icon appearing and swipe to change apps.
Android 10 actually removed the ability to slide between apps by gliding your thumb across the bottom of the phone. You now have flick it left or right and access one app at a time. Sliding up to freely scroll across everything that's open is the faster method but requires you to do an additional action. It's a real shame.

Hard to give up the swipe to switch apps. Like reolo said, the swipe up twice for app drawer could use some fine tuning.
I have a pixel and the back button is still there.

TikTok says it will stop accessing users’ clipboard content on iOS devices, after a new privacy transparency feature in iOS 14 revealed the video sharing platform was continuing the practice it had pledged last year to discontinue, the Telegraph reported. It didn't even occur to me that app developers would do this, goddamn
Whenever a third-party app accesses the clipboard of a device with iOS 14, a notification pops up. Users discovered that TikTok was checking content from the clipboard every few keystrokes, even when the app was running in the background.
A TikTok spokesperson said in a statement emailed to The Verge on Friday that it had submitted an update to the App Store to remove the feature, which it described as an “anti-spam” measure.😂 okay sure
i just assumed everyone does that, it's why password managers wipe the clipboard
it's cool that ios shows it happening now, but being able to scan clipboard in the background feels like it just shouldn't be allowed?

Eventually, I will stop being lazy and find/learn a good mouse gesture plugin for Firefox. Until then, though, I will continue to rock Vivaldi.
Google has discontinued its mid-range Pixel 3A and 3A XL smartphones, the company announced today (via Android Police). “Google Store has sold through its inventory and completed sales of Pixel 3A,” Google said in a statement to The Verge. “For people who are still interested in buying Pixel 3A, the product is available from some partners while supplies last.”Surely an announcement is imminent.
By Kidjr Go To PostWhen do the reviews for the note 20 ultra come out does anyone know?Probably a few weeks after their Unpacked event, so end of August?
Just installed Pi-hole on my little NUC server so that I don't have to run ad-block in my browsers so they run quicker (and also block ads on consoles and other devices that don't support ad blockers).
It currently only logs my devices by IP address since my router's inbuilt DHCP server does not appear to assign a domain name (which Pi-hole needs to figure out device names). I might hand off my router's DHCP responsibilities to the Pi-hole for easier maintenance.

I thought that was a joke but omg
Mr. O'Connor said other hackers had informed him that Kirk got access to the Twitter credentials when he found a way into Twitter’s internal Slack messaging channel and saw them posted there, along with a service that gave him access to the company’s servers.Broooo
By reilo Go To PostIt was time: I just switched to Firefox from Chrome. Tired of the resource bloat.
have you tried brave? it's like a lighter chrome.
i like it.
Found another neat docker image that I will probably install today/this weekend: https://github.com/DNSCrypt/dnscrypt-server-docker
It is based off the DNSCrypt protocol and is built on top of an Unbound DNS resolver.
I likely won't ever be at risk for the sorts of things this will protect against but its neat and free and why not? Couldn't hurt.
It is based off the DNSCrypt protocol and is built on top of an Unbound DNS resolver.
DNSCrypt is a protocol that encrypts, authenticates and optionally anonymizes communications between a DNS client and a DNS resolver. It prevents DNS spoofing. It uses cryptographic signatures to verify that responses originate from the chosen DNS resolver and haven’t been tampered with.
It is an open specification, with free and open source reference implementations, and it is not affiliated with any company nor organization.
[...]
Anonymized DNS improves over the original protocol and DoH by hiding client IP addresses in addition to encrypting queries.
Unbound is a validating, recursive, caching DNS resolver. It is designed to be fast and lean and incorporates modern features based on open standards. Late 2019, Unbound has been rigorously audited, which means that the code base is more resilient than ever.
To help increase online privacy, Unbound supports DNS-over-TLS which allows clients to encrypt their communication. In addition, it supports various modern standards that limit the amount of data exchanged with authoritative servers. These standards do not only improve privacy but also help making the DNS more robust. The most important are Query Name Minimisation, the Aggressive Use of DNSSEC-Validated Cache and support for authority zones, which can be used to load a copy of the root zone.
I likely won't ever be at risk for the sorts of things this will protect against but its neat and free and why not? Couldn't hurt.
By Hitch Go To PostThe Steam client has suddenly started taking up 43% of my memory :sI did just get an update for Steam and Windows earlier this morning.
Sweet, i think i got dnscrypt-server working correctly. Now none of my dns requests are passed to a third party (like Google or cloudflare or my isp) before they get to the root nameserver and they are now sent over https, are encrypted, and also recursively verified.
I do not need this level of security at all, but it was fun to get working. It is nice to have those lookups locally cached, though. Super speed dns resolution!

I have zero concerns about internet security, but how does pi-hole deal with YT ads? It's really the only thing that (slightly) bothers me in day to day use. I remember reading something about it not being very effective against that, because of how often the URLs change and shit.

I remember reading something about it not being very effective against that, because of how often the URLs change and shit. When playing YouTube through a browser, the ad prompt still pops up, but is blank. Like this:
I need to double check but when played through a Chromecast and certain other smart devices or apps, there is no blocking. I read that this is because a lot of these devices and apps are sending their DNS requests over HTTPS which means my pi-hole sees an encrypted request. The pi-hole does not have any DoH decryption capabilities. Not sure any home solution does, unfortunately. So, they just go straight through.
e: I am now unsure as to if my ad-blocker in Vivaldi is making the blank white screen or if it is the pi-hole
I have been getting that on Opera. Pisses me off, used to be they just had no signs of ads whatsoever.
By Smokey Go To Postmight trade in the note10+ for a note 20 ultra
want that 120hz screen
Been thinking about this and heard this years note upgrade is marginal at best. I dropped my note 10 and broke the screen, and I'll be honest because it was my most disappointing android phone I used it a chance to swap. I wanted the HTC One pro 8 but not available on EE so re-upped on a s20 and fuck me this is a good phone.
Really dont think the note series is really worth it, should have started with the normal series. Only a day in but its the best phone since my pixel 2.
I'm happy with my current phone and won't even consider anything new that doesn't have a 1440p 120hz screen. That's the new flagship standard for me.
But for $350, I think this looks good and checks a lot of boxes off. Nice to have as an option out there. The price + camera is what's it's all about anyway.

Apple is announcing updates for both the 27-inch and 21.5-inch iMacs. It’s updating the processors inside to Intel’s 10th Gen Comet Lake processors and also switching out the webcam to a higher-resolution 1080p HD sensor instead of the low-res 720p found in other Macs. SSDs are now standard across the line, and there will be a bunch of new configuration options — including a “nano-texture” version with less reflective matte glass.
The 27-inch iMac starts at $1,799, is available to order today, and will ship this week. The 21.5-inch iMac starts at $1,099 and will ship next week.
Even though it’s not a big redesign, the fan-favorite option might be the new nano-texture coating, which finally brings a matte option back to the iMac. It adds a $500 premium to the price, however.Glare/reflection on modern laptop screens is WOAT but that $500 bump to not have it isn't worth it lol
I saw that Instagram copied another feature (this time something called Reels to compete with Tik-Tok), and I want to rant highly about how I hate what IG has become and not just because of the features but also how people use it, but then I remind myself I deleted it months ago for those exact reasons, so I let it go.
