Yeah, their record last year was 11-8, versus the Rays 18-1. Yankees have this annoying tendency in recent years to schedule around bad teams instead of destroying them. Off days, bad lineups, bad pitching, etc.

Brian Cashman and the analytics department are shit. They think they can take the foot off the gas against poor teams in order to beat the good teams, except they end up losing to both.
Miguel Cabrera came to the plate in the bottom of the 8th, 2999 hits.
Yankees gave him an intentional walk. Detroit fans are not happy.
(They've pitched to him all day, came in with 2999. This was situational due to RISP.)

...and the next batter hits a pop fly that drops in to score 2 runs anyway.
Detroit fans are still booing.

In situational baseball terms, yes, if you are playing to win. (Yankees often intentionally do not play to win, so maybe the rest of this is moot.)
1-0 game, bottom of the 8th. Runners on 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs, first base open. Lethal batter, lefty pitcher with a lefty on deck.
The Yankees gave him 3 hits yesterday and 4 or 5 hits overall in the series, pitched to him 3 times today before this including at least once with whats on second. But at this point of the game, you take the more favorable matchup.
If that is a sin, the baseball gods punished them, since that lefty batter got a popup to land between three fielders, scoring 2.
I never felt that loading the bases is a smart baseball move especially when Miggy was already scuffling in the game.
I don't know about HAD to be done. It was a baseball decision that I can see the logic behind, but it's not a no brainer or anything.

Classy eh, Pac / Syphon?
No. Was watching that shit in real time. Yankee players ran out to stand with the Guardians to stop it. Never throw shit at players on the field.
Unless they are Astros.
