Set up my brand new PC a few days ago and damn people weren't exaggerating, SSD is a game changer. Went from minutes booting up windows to having everything ready in 3 seconds, everything install instantly, deaths in Sekiro only cost me seconds now, incredible upgrade

We have exciting products and news to share with you.
But this isn’t the right time. We’re going to hold off on sharing our GTC news for now.
That way, our employees, partners, the media and analysts who follow us, and our customers around the world can focus on staying safe and reducing the spread of the virus.
We will still stream tons of great content from researchers and developers who have prepared great talks.
This is a time to focus on our family, our friends, our community. Our employees are working from home. Many hourly workers will not need to work but they’ll all be fully paid.
Stay safe everyone. We will get through this together.

Alright we're away from the consolers here
What do we really think of the new ps5/Xbox
I'm fairly excited as I usually am for the new gen consoles, probably won't play much on them but it's about time as the current gen seems so outdated(felt outdated almost at release)
These new consoles are probably a good thing for PC gaming, they're becoming more and more pc-like each gen
are new consoles good for us

Not really that arsed about the new consoles tbh. Just surprised by how hard they're pushing the GPUs.
It's both good and bad for PCs in my opinion though. Bad because when games start to utilize the new console hardware, the minimum requirements for PC ports will go up which will price some people out of PC gaming for a while. Games will become harder to run at "max" settings, etc.

By diehard Go To Postthings will still be targeted at ps4 level for a while though
Likely, yeah. Keep in mind though what happened with PC ports near the start of the PS4/X1 gen though, devs were artificially locking games to only run with X amount of RAM.
Even though they could be unlocked and would still run fine afterwards. I can see some devs pulling that shit again.

They'll raise the baseline up considerably, which is good for everyone. They're both strong. Much better state than the lead up to PS4 and Xbo One.
My rig from 2018 is still easily better though, so all in all, they really aint shit.
is 4k high fps a pretty standard monitor setup for pc gamers these days? Or is everyone going with 1440p + super high frames.
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postis 4k high fps a pretty standard monitor setup for pc gamers these days? Or is everyone going with 1440p + super high frames. The vast majority is on 1080p/60hz, followed by 1080p144hz.
1440p, 4K and ultrawide resolutions are actually incredibly niche.

PREACH.

4k isn't even close to being standard.
That said, it's standard for me. I went down to 1440p to get 144hz, and it was a noticeable downgrade in IQ. 2080ti has treated me well in 4k, but I'm ready for Ampere.

Nah, not to my knowledge. Though even if there was, direct comparison doesn’t really work between PC and consoles. Even with the closest relative hardware.
Ok, I have officially gotten frustrated with the current motherboard in the prebuilt pc I bought for school a couple years ago. It was within my $500 budget at that time that also included a pretty decent $100 1080P 75hz monitor. Prebuilt limitations be damned. If I knew about this stuff I probably wouldve spent more time using a laptop that a family member barely used for a couple more months or even a year possibly. But no, I needed a computer for myself at that point. Honestly, with how frustrated I am with it, I appreciate the all-around experience. However I want better now. Most of the frustration is the limitation this pc can offer. Id rather get a new case and upgrade to a X570 motherboard because that AM4 platform is amazing and keep my 2200G and 16GB. Keeping my HDD for now. Yes I know. I'm saving up for a 2TB SSD minimum. I already know what my upgrade path is but it could easily diverge at a future date. The Asus x570 tuf gaming plus wifi motherboard is the one I want. Good reviews on it. Upgrade the APU to the 3700x whenever the RDNA2 cards come out. Case is the Phanteks 300A. Only thing missing is the power supply. I don't know what to get. A really good 500W PSU. Any suggestions? Benefits of modularity?
Because I don't want to upgrade for the next ten years. Don't want to be perpetually lusting for new hardware everytime something cool releases. Future proofing, yes and no. First time I have the money for this stuff. 2 pcie 4 m.2 slots for Windows and Linux. Im still a console gamer at heart. Just transitioning into a content producer than a consumer. Although I already have like a new backlog of 100 pc games. Mostly really old mixed in with new stuff. I wouldn't mind taking a screenshot of it all.
I only asked what PSU I should get lol?

As for powersupply, anything that is 80+ Gold rated would be quality. Though if you really want something that will last for 10 years, you will probably want something that advertises at least a 10 year warranty. The only PSU I know that offers that is the Seasonic Prime line (12 year warranty). I personally use their Fanless TX PSU because I like my machine to be as quiet as possible and removing the fan is removing another possible point of failure for long-term usage.
I'll keep that info in mind. Maybe I can wait a little longer. But the way Corona virus has impacted everything, I would have to reasses my situation. Oh I'm also 30min bus ride away from a Microcenter. Maybe, I'll order all the parts online.
Just finished putting together my new setup (new desk, monitor stands, and chair):
Still got a wire problem and my case is so fucking huge, but, oh well.

I think you linked a review of it before
How is it using 2 monitors stacked on top of each other? Never tried that

That plus issues with chipset fan, and the fact that X570 could be the swan song for AM4, meaning if you switch to it now the highest you could upgrade to could be a 3950X in the future.

As for the PSU, EVGA, Seasonic, Corsair are all brands I’d opt for. Wattage-wise, 500W is plenty and I’d say 650W is more than enough for any single mainstream CPU+GPU combo unless you’re overclocking the tits off of both on water.
If you can go modular, then definitely go modular. Makes cable management much easier and they tend to look better.
Mad similarities between how me and Kibner have our desks laid out. Even down to the spaghetti wires.
By HonestVapes Go To PostMad similarities between how me and Kibner have our desks laid out. Even down to the spaghetti wires.I think I am going to get some of those super heavy duty adhesive strips and use them to attach my UDP to the underside of my desk. And then use some more adhesive and ties to get all the other wires under control. I also need to do that to really use this desk as the standing desk it is meant to be. Right now, many of the power cables are not long enough to make the desk much higher. :(
Imma need you to sort out those cables asap. That photo is legit stressing me out.
My setup is nothing to write home about, but at least my cable game is on point.

When you have monitors on top of each other like you 2 do, do you still move the mouse left/right to get to the other screen or up/down?
By /sy Go To Poststacked monitors look uncomfortable.
It can be, but it’s more comfortable than side by side. Vertical is alright for things that only require a quick glance.
By FootbalIFan Go To PostWhen you have monitors on top of each other like you 2 do, do you still move the mouse left/right to get to the other screen or up/down?Up and down. You can set it up as you like in Nvidia Control Panel.
By /sy Go To Poststacked monitors look uncomfortable. They are for me. Or would be, if I had an actual use for the top one outside gaming. It's really just a glorified screensaver, until ...
I can now wholeheartedly recommend Amazonbasics' articulating monitor arm. I've only had to adjust the tension once in over 4 months of constant use. Glad I didn't spend 3x as much on an Ergotron, I can't imagine it being much smoother and solid feeling than this.
