What monitors are people using?
I’m still on the 1080p/144hz ASUS. Are the ultrawide/144hz worth it? Or better to just go to 1440p/144hz or 165hz?

I only just got an ultra wide a few months ago, but damn yes, it is worth it. Some games you have to mess about with a little, to get proper ultra wide support, but when it then works, it is sensational. Mine OC's to 120hz, and while I do keep my 240hz monitor for when I play cs, the ultra wide does just fine for other none competitive shooters. It's also just amazing for general none gaming use.

I've been using an ASUS PG27UQ monitor for a while now. It's 4k/HDR/Gsync/120hz+. End game type monitor and I don't see myself upgrading to anything else for a long time. I run my Xbox to it as well. Provides superb HDR. Very bright. I've never used a UW before, but they do look nice. I'm not sure on the game support, some of the other guys that have them can chime in, but I imagine it's getting better with time.
1440p+High Refresh Rate is definitely the sweet spot, though.

My 2080Ti has been a great purchase for 4k (and ray tracing ofc). I've taken it for granted how powerful it is. I played Fallen Order for about 2 hours earlier today. Maxed everything. Everything is just smooth (I'm sure Gsync is helping out too), to where I didn't even have the Afterburner OSD on screen. It's succeeded in making me feel like 4k60 is "normal".
About ready for the 3080Ti. Excited for the leap in performance, especially on the ray tracing front.

Love it, don't feel like upgrading or the need to, as of yet
I'm sure that'll change in the future but for now I'm happy
GA103 will reportedly pack 3840 stream processors, 60 SMs, and 10/20GB of GDDR6 on a 320-bit memory bus. The 10/20GB VRAM option there is an interesting one, as we haven't had a card with 20GB of VRAM before. Moving onto the GA104, we have 3072 stream processors, 48 SMs, and 8/16GB GDDR6 on a 256-bit memory bus -- this will take form in the GeForce RTX 3070.

FWIW, this is the UW I’m considering:

It is (from a price and performance stand point).

I'll just second everything Wooden said about ultrawides, having used one as my main monitor for the past 2+ years (I too have a secondary 240hz TN for competitive playing, since my 21:9 only does 100hz). UW support is getting better and better and there've been only a couple of games in which I wasn't able to get UW to work. All it usually involves is waiting a couple of days for the mod to release, then you simply copy some files over to your game directory, maybe apply a quick patch and you're done. And you can always play in 16:9 2560x1440 on your UW, if 21:9 isn't supported. Pillarboxing is far, far less distracting than letterboxing, after a while you forget it's there.
But yeah, can't go wrong with 1440p/165hz either. Once you go UW however, there's no going back.

In this is legit, guessing the 3080Ti will come 2021.
By Zabojnik Go To PostHow much was the Nvidia stock 2080 when it launched?Like $600 USD, I think?
e: nope, $700 USD
not sure i can be bothered to wait for 3080ti if it launches next year, 3080 should do me fine
i guess nvidia found their solution to poor 2080 sales lol

By rerixo Go To Postnot sure i can be bothered to wait for 3080ti if it launches next year, 3080 should do me fineIt was a pretty redundant card all around, even if they delayed the release of the 2080Ti I think the 2080 would’ve still flopped a fair bit.
i guess nvidia found their solution to poor 2080 sales lol
The way they priced things on release it was like the 2070 was replacing the 1080 and the 2080 was replacing the 1080Ti, but the performance gap between 1080/2070 and 2080/1080Ti wasn’t at all substantial. Plus the availability of second hand 1080Tis and the extra 3GB VRAM made the 2080 look even worse.
They mostly fixed it with the 2070 Super, but the 2080 Super is held back because Nvidia didn’t want to eat into the 80Ti sales, or release a 2080Ti Super. I just can’t imagine why anyone would buy the 2080/Super when they could go with the much better value 2070 Super or the higher performing 2080Ti. Just feels there’s no real place in the market for the current 2080/S.
Yeah, no way I'm waiting another year for a new GPU. If the 3080 ends up costing around 700€, then that's what I'm getting.
By ecnal Go To PostSo wait, the 3080Ti isn't going to be at launch?Judging by this last gen? I would wait for post-release benchmarks before buying in.
3080 is still going to crush a 2080Ti, right?
Don't know about crushing, but they'll have to throw 2080TI owners a reason to spend money and not hold back, so I imagine it'll be just fast(er) enough to entice them. With the switch to 7nm / new arch they don't really have an excuse.
By ecnal Go To PostSo wait, the 3080Ti isn't going to be at launch?Best to wait for the official announcement, whenever it happens. If Nvidia don’t mention an ‘80Ti model then chances are it’ll follow suit in 6 months or so.
3080 is still going to crush a 2080Ti, right?
Though if they do go that route, I can’t imagine the 3080 being anything less than a 20% improvement over the 2080Ti. Any less and too few 2080Ti owners would feel the need to upgrade. Especially if they keep prices the same.

When was the last time people were genuinely surprised at the performance of non-ti new GPUs? 970/980 era?
By Zabojnik Go To PostWhen was the last time people were genuinely surprised at the performance of non-ti new GPUs? 970/980 era?
10 series. 970 to 1070 was a large jump in performance. 50% depending on the game/workload IIRC.
2060KO is slightly faster than a 2060. 3-4%. Guessing it’s vs a FE 2060. Probably the same as an AIB 2060.

the 2060KO is essentially just a 2060, just a branding the EVGA has.
edit: oh right its the larger die and uses a bit more power.

Larger die, same amount of CUs and same clockspeed but still a hair faster. I’m assuming EVGA won’t be the only AIB to sell these 2060KO’s going forward though.
By ecnal Go To PostWhat monitors are people using?I’m using an LG 27UK600 and I really like it. IPS colors, freesync (which now means gsync compatible), hdr, 27”, and 4K. Plus I got it during Black Friday 2018 for like $300 or $350. To me, going from 1080p to 4K alone has been like a generational leap in visuals and I’ll take more pixels over high refresh rate any day.
I’m still on the 1080p/144hz ASUS. Are the ultrawide/144hz worth it? Or better to just go to 1440p/144hz or 165hz?
I’m fine with nvidia taking their time to release the 3080 Ti or next Titan since I bought a second hand 1080 Ti to hold me over. I just hope that the prices of the 3000 series don’t disappoint like the 2000 series did.

I’m in the same boat as Smokey, but I went with the Acer X27 over the Asus model. 4K/120hz/HDR10/Gsync. I also have a second monitor, an Alienware 1080p/240hz jobby for Siege and other twitchy FPS games
I have an Acer Predator XB271HU as my primary monitor. 1440p, 144hz, gsync, ips panel.
My secondary is one of the original "affordable" gaming ips panels from 12 years ago, the Doublesight 263N. 1920x1200 (16x10), 60hz, 16ms or less input lag. The biggest drawbacks on it nowadays is that it uses CCFL backlight (I think) instead of the superior LED backlights of today and it suffers from more noticeable motion blur (just barely enough to be noticeable in games). Still decent colors and still way too bright unless I have the backlight turned down nearly all the way.

By ecnal Go To PostHow do you like them for gaming?Love them. They aren't 4K (3440x1440) so it makes holding out with my 1080ti easier.
I would still prefer the 37.5'' 3840x1600 ones though..
By toku Go To Posti just googled the acer x27 fuck i gotta get my weight up :wow:
They released a freesync model for 4K/144hz for about a grand, no HDR10 though. Generally you’d be better off with a 1440p/144hz monitor though, just so you don’t feel inclined to get a 2080Ti because shit gets expensive fast when you go for 4K.
I fucking love my 2080Ti and X27 though, best purchase I made in the last 10 years for games, and I’ll be keeping the monitor for as long as possible.
