Gah, that cooler price is insane.
If you're gonna pay that much, just stick with the stock cooler and upgrade later.

Fuck it. This an investment. Any thoughts? I might need an alternative to the case. I would go for the ASrock board, but I do want something with wifi, and none of their stuff is in stock.

How much more would it cost to get 3600, 3733, or 3800 rated ram? Ryzen 3000 series can make good use of faster ram up to 3733, iirc.
E: also, check prices and see if a USB or pcie wireless card would save you money on the motherboard since Wi-Fi is a need

By Kibner Go To PostHow much more would it cost to get 3600, 3733, or 3800 rated ram? Ryzen 3000 series can make good use of faster ram up to 3733, iirc.I spotted a Team Group kit on the site for $130. 3600/CL8 for 32Gb. So that’s slightly cheaper than the Corsair 3200mhz kit.

Also there’s an MSI Ventus 2070 (non-Super) for $410. Probably worth it over the 2060S for the extra 8Gb of VRAM.
As for the case, the Meshify C is the easy recommendation, but I’ve heard good things about the Lian Li Lancool II that’s around the same price currently. There’s also some variants of the Phanteks P300/P400 that a worthwhile too. Generally there’s a lot of options currently in the ATX space, just depends on what you like the look of for the most part.

The 2060 super Eldritch listed and the 2070*you listed both have 8 GB VRAM unless I am missing something. I don't know which one gets better framerates in games, though. Might still be the 2070.
E: also need to check the cooler height that case allows because that be quiet is quite tall, iirc

165mm of clearance in the P300A, the cooler is 163mm. I’d call that a perfect fit.
I didn’t know the 2060 Super had 8GB of VRAM, I’m slipping there. For the small difference in price though, I’d still take the 2070 over the 2060S. More CUDA cores for any tasks that’ll benefit from it, and a small increase in game performance For $20~ extra.

TBH tho, this is a bad time to build a brand new PC.
With supply shortages, everything is jacked up in price.
New GPU architectures coming this fall from both companies too.

e: besides, it is never worth worrying about possible better parts that are still months away. never know how much they will cost or what shortcomings they may have. get what fits your purposes and you can afford today and worry about next year next year

While I agree with the sentiment mostly, there are indeed times to not buy. I would cite the crypto-bubble inflating GPU prices to crazy levels as a v bad time to buy GPUs.
Just my opinion.
I did forget that he's buying a 3950x, which has actually dropped in price.
I'd only say it's worth waiting before making a purchase if a new part is coming within a month that's the same price or less and and offers better performance. Otherwise you end up in the waiting trap because there is always something better coming.
For instance, if you bought a 9000 Intel chip a month prior to the 10000 launch, it's a foolish move.
Crypto causing inflated GPU prices is different though.

Seen that earlier. I think it’d potentially be a great design for SLI set ups though I have my doubts on whether it’s real.
Would be odd for Nvidia to scrap their current design given how well received it was and that it’s only been used for one series of cards. Doubly odd for them to make a design that seems tailored to SLI set up given the dire support for it.

By HonestVapes Go To PostThe Eisbaer LT AIOs are good, I had the LT240. I’d only recommend them tho if you’d want to mod them down the line or like the idea of having a fully serviceable AIO with no chance of ever getting galvanic corrosion.appreciate it. those Arctics are well priced.
The downside is the mounting bracket is a pain in the arse.
Performance-wise, the Arctic AIO is the better choice. It’s a 38mm (aluminium) rad vs a 25mm (copper) rad.
Also, my storage setup will be:
SSD - OS
Sabrent 4.0 NVME m.2 1tb - Media Cache
Sabrent 4.0 NVME m.2 1tb - Will be use only for storing current projects I'll be working only ( Raw 4k-8k footage, Audio Wav files, etc
4x HDD RAID - Backup for raw footage, audio files, misc
Ive been working with 6k and 8k plates more and more now so this is the reason I need to upgrade.
so anyone know if the most efficient in terms of the least bottleneck?
will having those large footage on NVME and media cache on another NVME cause a bottle neck?
or is it better to have the media cache on the SSD and OS on the NVME.
thanks in advance.

Now the question is, do I sit tight on something like a 2060KO/2070S with the intention of upgrading to a 3080 ti or just get a 2080 ti and live with it.

I'd grab a second hand card on the cheap to tide you over if you've got 2080Ti money ready to drop on a GPU.
By ecnal Go To Post3080 ti is still expected to be a 2021 release, right?Nobody knows.
AMD are supposedly releasing their RDNA2 cards before the new consoles launch (as per their CEO's recent comments about PC gamers experiencing it first) and Nvidia's usual strategy is to crash AMD's party. I doubt they'll let them have 3-4 months of free reign.
Oh, you mean the tie specifically. Yeah, that is probably 2021.

Don't spend the money a 2080ti commands. Its two years old and its successor is close.

That makes sense.
What should I sit tight with though?
Even picking up 1080 ti's used is pretty expensive, and in most cases I can just grab a 2070S for cheaper. I'm assuming I'll end up using this card for a ~year anyways till the 3080 ti drops.

But wow I'm an idiot. I just realized the Aorus master has 3x m.2 slots. Gonna get me another sabrent.
Also noticed there are heat guards. Triple win.
Don't mind me while I go further and figure out what I bought.
By Kabro Go To PostIt's cool. When you get real big balling, you could probably setup a network storage server over 10 gigabit ethernet using Unraid as the OS and use it for the storage of all your work stuff. It will handle setting up intelligent raids for you to increase read and write speed while also figuring out how to handle redundancy so you aren't screwed if a drive fails.

have you seen the leaks for the 3080 cooling solution? it has fans on both sides, i'm not sure if they're both exhaust, or a push/pull config, but is it something that could be concerning for sandwich layouts?

By rerixo Go To Posthmm looks pretty nice. it's cool to see bigger companies tackle itx cases at leastI've seen it and yeah, I don't imagine it'll work well in sandwich layout cases if both fans are intakes. If the rear fan is an exhaust however (which I doubt) then you could circumvent the issue by reversing the the PSU, but that would possibly cause some noise issues with the PSU itself.

That said, I highly doubt that most AIB cards will go with the one fan on each side of their cards, so I'd just go with an AIB card for a sandwich case.
Motherboard and cpu cooler came in today, while the expected delivery date for the CPU, GPU, SSD, RAM and power supply is tomorrow. If all goes smoothly, I should be able to begin building within the next couple of days. Pretty exciting.
