Picked up a new car in San Jose a couple days ago... my third E39 M5. Came with a Dinan package and all the service records. This joins the E46 M3 and E60 M5 in the garage and will probably never be sold. Already working on sourcing some Supersprint headers and installing my Recaro Sportster CS from the M3 so I can put some lighter seats in there.
Car pulls strong as hell, VANOS must be in amazing shape. Drove up there with the 335d and had my girlfriend follow me back from San Jose to San Diego, car was flawless the whole way back down.

E39 M5's (and the e46 M3's) are up there in the top 10 of nicest looking cars of all time IMO, i't s a timeless classic. Congrats on your get, the car looks beautiful!
Thanks guys. There's something so special about these cars even if they're not the fastest on the block anymore... they just feel so right. I could buy something newer, more expensive and much faster but I don't know if it'll ever make me giddy and speak to me like these classics do.
Got damn. I wish BMW still made cars like that, it'd be so much easier to market these cars lmao. Congrats man!
Btw, anyone here have any experience with Vredestein tires? I've read lots about them and I know they just recently entered the American tire market.
I've got the Hypertrac all-seasons in my cart at Tire Rack along with the wheels I'm going to get (👀) but I'd love to hear some thoughts from owners before pulling the trigger, everything I've read says they're great but most of the people who say that are influencers or other marketing materials. Otherwise, I'm just gonna pick up the Pilot Sport AS.

Can you imagine if BMW released the same exact car today in a limited release? It would sell out in a second.
Crossed 2000 miles (2021 to be exact). It's been slick with wintery mix or snow for like the past month, so abiding by the break in guidelines hasn't been too hard, HOWEVER...for the next week it's supposed to be sunny out. Perfect timing! I have Sport mode and haven't engaged it at all during the break in. Will try that and actually push the engine above 4000 RPMs. It's not a 911 so I'm keeping expectations in check, but interested in seeing the difference in the ride/handling.

Just noticed my original image broke. Idk why. I fixed it.
Absurdly fast. Like "wtf!!" fast. I went from 80-110 in something like 4 seconds. I'm also not entirely convinced the ECU is stock, but it's probably just me astonished at the speed of this thing.
By No Love Go To PostDamn that color is awesome. Bet it's fast as fuck compared to the R8.

Can't say how many obviously but we definitely have(or is it had?) a number of cars on that boat. I also can't say what cars are on, but obviously for VW the cars on there are mostly GTI's, Golf R's and ID.4s(as they're the only ones produced in EU these days).
Dunno what's next for these folks. Pretty sure Porsche, specifically the high-money/high-profile clients, will get taken care of. But the ones without some kind of pull, and especially the VW customers, they're gonna be in for a tough time.
Like I'm sure Porsche and VW will take care of them regardless, but Matt's 718 Spyder will probably get pushed up the line vs some no-name customer who'll have to wait another 8-12 months for their car. 😬
Possibly, but I doubt it. Buffer time between your deposit and Porsche building the car right now is around 3-4 months... so if you'd confirmed it in November they probably wouldn't start building it until late March or April. Unless of course you're a Matt Farah type of customer and can skip the line lol.

/r/Lexus has me wanting a ‘90’s Lexus ls400. The design is timeless, the v8 runs smooth, the interior is still luxurious, and the cars are cheap these days. I’m sure the gas mileage is horrible, but seems like it would be a cool car for driving around town.

Oof at the boat in the water 😧 😬
Rented a 330i while I’m in Houston. First time I’ve been in one since I sold my 335 years ago. IDrive is massively improved my god. The drive is fairly comfortable. Not sure how I feel about the all digital drive cluster though. Seems to be a lot of wasted empty space and looks weird to me. But it did feel good to drive one again ngl.

Driving my father-in-law's GL450. God, it's so massive. It needs all the gadgets and shit just to make sure you don't side-swipe everyone.
The feeling of driving a newly washed car is underrated. Didn’t do my usual routine, but used the foam wash and even a little bit of a schampoo. Damn.

Would love it in the UK if you had to take a supplementary driving test before they let you anywhere near a SUV or Land Rover. Sick af of all the near collisions and potential life-ending accidents these fucking big car nonces have been part of in my driving life the last few years.
How do you come around a blind corner, halfway in my lane, at 50mph in a 30mph zone and beep your fucking horn at me? fumin.

330i is a 4 cyl piece of crap, shame you didn't get a 340i to try out. The new M3 is supercar fast, you'd be like a drug addict with that kind of power under your foot.

RIP Ferrari.
I mean people were saying RIP Porsche when the Cayenne came out but the sales of the Cayenne propelled them forward into their most prosperous era yet. Maybe this will keep Ferrari pumping out N/A V12 monstrosities.

I thought for what it is, the 330 was fine. I wouldn’t buy it, but it made me dream of getting a M3 again, knowing how dumb fast they are. I’ve been over the grill. That was the hardest part 😈

This will no doubt sell like crazy. But it looks like shit and is the end of a major era for the most iconic car company in the world.
Idk
I’d probably reserve an opinion to when it’s out in the wild with different color combos etc vs your standard silver and default rims from a sneak photo

I hate the headlights, I hate the lower grille, and strongly dislike those taillights. I'm not changing my mind. I hate the Roma for basically those exact same reasons, and that tune hasn't changed either.
By reilo Go To PostDriving my father-in-law's GL450. God, it's so massive. It needs all the gadgets and shit just to make sure you don't side-swipe everyone. It's actually a GLS450 (the largest one Benz offers?).
MBUX... not great. It feels overdesigned, and you gotta dig deep to figure out what all of the available options are. It's not very intuitive and VERY glossy circa 2005-2010 UI design (still, wtf MB).
It also doesn't come with something that bothers me: key to profile matching so that the car can automatically switch profiles when you get in.
But oh my god, does it drive like a big car. I don't know if I'll ever feel confident driving a car that size and I've been driving 20 years (!). It truly needs all of the cameras and sensors and assists it can get to keep you safe.
As a separate thought to this...
I'll be in the market for an SUV this Spring 😩 Don't ask me why. Read between the lines.
The F-Types been gone since November. I was very close to ordering a new Panamera GTS Sport Turismo but backed out at the last minute to keep the cash on hand for a house in 2023.
But after the house... 😈

Macan/cayenne ?
😈
By Smokey Go To PostlolI am of two minds/two budgets:
Macan/cayenne ?
😈
A) Under $40k, I will lease. At that price I am a-okay with a 4-cyl, e.g. a CX-5 (current front-runner)
B) Between $60-70k, I am willing to purchase and plop $20-25k down, but I do not want a 4-cyl because that's dumb to spend that much money on a 4-cyl SUV.
B leaves me with F-Pace, Velar, ???. No to Mercedes as I already said my piece about M
Velar hits ALL the notes style-wise (not sure how it drives, will need to test) but deeply worried about reliability -- although they fixed a TON of the biggest complaints with the 2021 refresh and the infotainment. Mechanically it's identical to a F-Pace which is rocksolid reliable -- big difference being the electronics / offroad components that the Velar has over the F-Pace. Not to mention depreciation.
Macan.... Unfortunately Macans would put me out of that budget, unless I go used but I do not like the prior gens interior and 2022s have not been on the market long enough to find a used one that's below $70k. A Macan S with almost no options will hit $70k easy, with most of them you're over $80k.

I’d lean towards A
We cross shopped the Velar before settling on the Macan and idk…it didn’t really blow us away for its price and the reliability of the brand was always in the back of my mind. And it was the front runner before we got into the Macan. I actually liked the X3/X4 over the Velar.
By Patriotism Go To PostCongrats on becoming a dad?:)
By Smokey Go To PostI’d lean towards AI've seen plenty of Velars in person and the dimensions just appeal to me. It seems to have just the right balance of size and utility. Apparently the storage is really great and it looks smaller in frame (because it can sit lower with its air suspension) than an F-Pace (no air suspension, huge wheel gaps that bother me).

No doubt, it’s def a great looking vehicle. I was concerned about buying a Land Rover. I think I’d be ok with leasing one but for long term…idk with reliability concerns. I had Kibner and a few others vouch for the ownership experience of their Porsche, but I didn’t personally know anybody who had a LR who could ease any concerns vs what I was seeing in the reliability charts & info.
Porsches are top-notch reliable, so wouldn't worry about getting a Macan. It's just you're paying a premium and Velars are already expensive and considered overpriced but Porsche gets away with it. Not saying it's not worth it, but it's just a perception thing.
And again, having owned a Jaguar before I am a bit more willing to jump in given I know how good the drivetrains are from Jaguar's side -- which is what a Velar basically is.
It's the electronics, etc. that can always go sideways since those tend to be different.
