Uggh, got a nail in my tire and it isn't repairable. They also don't have the tire in stock so it might not be until Tuesday that they get it in. They also don't have any loaners available for two weeks. Bleh.
Yeah, that shit happened to me with the R8 months back. Same situation, had to wait a week for the tire
So, uhh, definitely get extended tire warranties if you are near some kind of construction. Mine already paid for itself. lol
Was 1/5th the cost to replace my tire with the warranty compared to without. Over $300 saved.

I picked up my '99 Z3 last spring on a whim, as soon as I saw the color I knew I had to have it. I was supposed to purchase a Model Y but said fuck it and kept my current GLK for a couple more years. I found this Z3 online being sold by some dude an hour drive away, told him to hold onto it (sent him a down-deposit) and had it the next following days. Probably the best $6.5K I spent in a very long time, I can't recommend this car enough, anyone that has driven it immediately enjoys it, the thrill of the handling and the kick from the capable engine is so much fun. My GF who drives a Range Rover practically gave up on her car to take the Z3 anywhere she went lol.
It's totally OEM, the only modification made was to the media player, the previous owner swapped it for something more modern and practical with bluetooth + mic but the nostalgic in me misses the tape deck if I'm being honest hehe.
I can't wait for spring.

Yeah fix the image, we’d like to see it!
I crossed 1000 miles this morning in the Macan, exactly two weeks after getting it.
Another 1000 to go before it’s unleashed, although I have been driving it in a more “spirited” way as I got closer to 1k. Still haven’t gone over 4000 RPM.

French auto consultancy Inovev said Jaguar’s new target market after 2025 will be the exotic and high-priced world of Bentley and Rolls-Royce, selling far fewer vehicles than now but at much higher prices and profits, in theory. This is dumb and might kill the brand for good. Smh.
“The idea would be to produce between 10,000 and 20,000 cars each year at prices above €150,000 ($170,000), while today the list prices range from €45,000 ($51,500) to €130,000 ($149,000) at the carmaker. It means that the electric I-Pace, which anticipates the future battery electric range from Jaguar, would be a far too affordable model compared to the future range, as its price does not exceed €80,000 ($91,500),” Inovev said in a report.

That is an unbelievably clean car, especially for being 23 years old. Wow.
I like those Z3s a lot. Seems like a fun little ride for sure- looked at them more than once along with S2Ks and similar.
Picked up my new truck yesterday. Damn thing is SMOOTH and COMFY.

But driving with Eurobeat is a dangerous combination m9
I've narrowed down my next car...unfortunately it'll require me giving up both my F-Type R and V10 R8. But I'm basically merging the two into one with a McLaren 570S. I think I found the right one, but it's just a matter of selling my R8 (Jag dealer will take the F-Type back in a heartbeat and give me money back for it).
By Pedja Go To PostI need to stop coming into this thread, it's just making me feel like a peasant.
Also, I would welcome talk of more affordable vehicles! Especially since there should be a lot more to talk about with EVs starting to come out in that price range, iirc.
I would definitely welcome more conversation about normal vehicles. Cheap seat EVs in particular are interesting to me- we also have an Ioniq we're leasing for a couple hundred a month that gets the piss beat out of it as a grocery getter and it's been GREAT for that.
It's fun figuring out a best fit use case for family stuff for sure - at the moment I've landed on a diesel crew cab fancy truck and that Ioniq and I suspect it'll work out great but there are multiple strategies there.

I just met Chris Harris randomly at a breakfast place in Orlando. I was with a whole bunch of my supercar buddies, and half of us recognized him and instantly ran up to chat him up.
What a day. One of the very very few selfies I'll ever take but cherish. Dude hurt himself playing frisbee two days ago, he was in crutches.

What's he doing in Florida?
For normal people talk lmao... are lighter wheels really worth it?
I'm getting new tires soon so I'm also thinking about swapping wheels in the process but I can't figure out where I want to go lol.
For tires I'm already pretty much set, I'm either going to stick with my General GMax AS-05s as they've got great handling on dry/wet or I'm gonna step up to the all-season Pilot Sports.
But the wheels are the question right now. Part of me wants to go lighter, specifically the Enkei TFR in copper as they're about 19lbs... so a weight savings of 6lbs or 24 lbs in total as the GTI's stock wheels are around 25lbs apiece. The other direction I'm thinking of going is for a rally look, something like Fifteen52 Turbomacs in white but those wheels are 30lbs apiece so I'm adding 20lbs to the weight of the car.
Of course I know that lighter is better but I also don't really have any plans of tracking my GTI any time soon so I'm not really sure if the weight savings are going to be useful especially in daily driving.
The other option is just to forego the wheels as PS AS4's are like $200 per tire for my wheel size and I'd rather put back that wheel funds into my GR86/Miata/Z/Manual Supra fund. 😂
Man, tough decisions! For my personal tastes, I think I would either go with the rally look or keep the savings for future car. There doesn't really seem to be wrong decision, though.

The whole gang was there. They were filming for Top Gear, something about a 'big city tour'? They're already in Los Angeles today. I look at the photo and I'm still in disbelief.

Massive difference when switching to lightweight wheels, every single aspect of the car improves. I switched to some 16.5 lb wheels and lighter tires for.my daily driver 335d and cut about 55 lbs of wheel and tire weight. The acceleration, braking, and handling all significantly improved. Especially if you're running a boosted car where the motor can be driven off boost, it really makes a big difference accelerating from a stop or roll on the street. My car moves faster at all speed and throttle usage, you really can move a lot faster even with partial throttle. Also makes cornering significantly faster/smoother/balanced... steering and braking feel much more communicative and effective.
Overall, I'd say it's the best daily driving mod other than more power/E85. Get the lightest wheels/tires you can, every lb makes a difference.
And if I were you, I'd switch to the General Gmax RS. Definitely one of the best daily driving tires around.
Think I’m used to BMWs new grill lol

Starting to understand @Kibners joy of driving his Cayman. My Macan S definitely feels more agile, even though I’ve got about 300 miles to go before hitting the official break in mark (2000 miles). Just a lot of fun to drive. Had to do a 2 hour run this morning taking my sis in law to JFK airport, and then to work. Heated steering wheel is clutch along with the seats. Even though the streets weren’t in the best of shape due to the blizzard this past weekend, it was still just a comfortable and fun drive.
Car dirty af though from the snow & dirt but I kind of like it lol. Should cross that 2000 mile mark by mid Feb.

Smokey, please believe me when I tell you that the Macans I drove as loaners feel almost clumsy compared to the Cayman.
By Celcius Go To PostHow has the gas mileage been?
I’ll have to pay more attention. I usually fill up if it gets to 1/4, which if I drive it for the majority of the week to work, happens pretty quick (~60 miles round trip).

I don’t doubt that! But for its size, it handles very nicely and is pretty comfortable. Still haven’t put it in sport mode either. I remember test driving the Cayman years ago and it was dope.

My worry about the lighter wheels are also the potholes and construction around DFW. As Kibner can attest, roads are totally fucked here in DFW lol. I need to find some lightweight yet strong wheels.
As for the performance aspect of it, well tbh I've got no intention of doing any mods right now. Maybe if and when the clutch finally goes out and I'll have to replace it, but at the moment, the stock GTI clutches are weak as hell and even just a stage 1 tune will slip and destroy the clutch really quickly so that's also not really in the cards.
Also yeah I'd like to get summer tires but nah lol. It's too risky with Texas weather these days(thanks global warming!). Like we're about to get a fucking icemageddon starting tomorrow up to Saturday. Granted I'm working from home if it's not safe to get out there but these winter events are starting to become so common here in North Texas, I'm honestly predicting were going to hit a point where we're going to need snow tires or some shit in the near future.
But with all that said, I'm still trying to figure stuff out lol. Work might be able to get me a Golf R sometime this year and if that opportunity does come up... I dunno if I'd be able to resist.
By Celcius Go To PostWhat kind of keychain do you guys use for your car keys? Apple AirTag?
Yep, I'm heavily locked in the Mac/iOS ecosystem these days so I've got Airtags on almost everything that I consider important lol.

Hung out with Shmee yesterday. Nice lad. Was supposed to drag race him and Tavarish against the R8...but I got a phone call that my R8 was sold and that I need to bring it to the dealer ASAP. So we didn't get any footage to air on either channel to avoid scaring off the new owner and to avoid any damage to my car.
But I still had one of Freddy's guys jump in, and record me doing 140 down the runway
Oh
On the run back...a bird almost clipped the front bumper. We were clearly tempting fate so I stopped hahahaha.
