Tesla fanboys have relentlessly argued that Tesla doesn't recall their cars because of OTA updates
Tesla refuses to recall cars because they don't care for quality control so for them to do this is actually quite noteworthy

By No Love Go To PostGod damn Smokey, nice pickup! Those new Macans are gorgeous 🤤
Thanks! Long time coming. Been window shopping since the old place. Haven’t seen your name in a while, hope all is well.
Wife really likes it as well, everybody’s happy. The row of buttons looked intimidating at first, but it’s really not. And everything saves to a profile anyway so you don’t really need to adjust anything outside of temp if you’d like.
Also love how it looks and feelsfrom the driver’s seat. Analog displays and physical buttons > digital.
Test drove the new fully electric Ionic 5, this thing is going to sell gangbusters. Federal and provincial rebates of 13k makes it soooooooo enticing for a daily practical ride.

By reilo Go To PostThe Mercedes EQS looks like shit though
Yeah
Mercedes has been on this garbage trend of homogenizing all of their cars for some reason and I don’t know why. When they do something like the EQS they miss on it too. Seen it in person and thought it might help but nah. Maybe in the right color scheme idk.
Only electric car I could see myself in rn is a Taycan or e-tron tbh
E-tron is too fat.
My coworker has the e-tron q4 on order, looks better but the sportsback model is the one that's really nice.
Taycan just might be one of the nicest looking cars period.

M5 CS
Huracan STO
911 GT3 Touring
Interesting how they hammer home just how much better the M5 CS is over the rest of the M5 line, although I don't know if that's really a good thing for BMW? The M5 in general should be what the CS is.
Also some pretty damning critiques of the Ferrari SF90 oof
We’ll start with the battery, since that’s the heart of what an electric car is. Mercedes says it worked with the Formula One team at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains to put together a super-high-density battery pack. The pack itself is “just under 100 kWh” of usable energy, but it can be put into a compact car like the EQXX. It has the potential energy of the EQS, but the pack itself has 50% less volume and is 30% lighter than that in the EQS. Mercedes attributes the improvements to progress in the chemistry and new OneBox compartment that improves the level of integration of the battery pack to the platform. It even features a “lid” that is made of a sustainable composite material and then reinforced with carbon fiber.Oh it's not a design concept vision but a performance/drivetrain vision to get peak efficiency out of their future EVs.
We know that other manufacturers have raised the bar up to 800-volt electrical systems, but the EQXX experiments with a 900-volt system that runs and works. Mercedes didn’t confirm that a 900-volt system would find its way to production soon, but it did say it was assessing the technology for potential future use in a production car. The one missing factor in Mercedes’ battery talk is charging. It doesn’t appear as though any breakthroughs have been made in charge time for the EQXX.
600 mile range doh. Once these EV’s reach 1000 mile range it’s a wrap for ICE cars. It’s already a wrap but double wrap, baby!

By AlphaSnacks Go To PostPulling timing = reduction of power. Companies like Mazda specifically advertise two different HP and TQ ratings on their 2.5L Turbo engine based on 87 vs 93 ratings. Octane directly correlates to power increase and decrease. Yes, cars have knock sensors, but they're there to prevent engine knock/ping/damage. You won't feel much difference daily driving with light acceleration and in high traffic situations. But moderate to high applications of throttle will yield noticeable loss in torque, especially in forced-induction vehicles. High-end suffers drastically too. Naturally aspirated cars are affected, but to a lesser extent.
Yeah my GTI has different power figures too depending on the fuel... something like 220HP on regular and 230HP on premium.
Do I feel the difference? Not in daily driving, but when I push it, you definitely notice that it's not exactly the same as before when you have premium in it.

Yeah but there's still one aspect of EVs that seems like no one has figured out yet, and that is what you do to EVs once they've reached the end of their lifespan. Maybe it's coz I've been watching too many Rich Rebuilds videos recently but yeah what do we do with the cars and specifically the batteries once they're dead?
ICE cars don't really have a specific lifespan and when they die, there's multiple ways to salvage everything for future use. But with EVs, there doesn't seem to be a proper way to keep it going... especially when official battery replacements cost like $20,000 dollars or $5,000 for unofficial fixes that don't seem to actually work(see Car Trek S6E4 when Hoovie's Tesla completely died when it still had 35 miles of range left, unless of course this was staged... I couldn't tell if it was).
But I think once this is all figured out, then yeah I think it'll be a wrap for ICE cars.

I’m glad electric cars are starting to look “normal”.
Meanwhile at Mercedes...
It's like Mercedes literally didn't get the memo that people hated frumpy looking EVs and avoided them for that very specific reason. I mean what the fuck?

Yeah, don't trust Tesla to be a beacon of having good FRU capability built into their vehicles. They're like Apple where they weld everything together into a few monolithic blocks that aren't meant to be serviced really.
Every non-boutique company is much, much better about things like dividing their battery pack into shop serviceable cells etc - one of the main reasons I can't wait for the big manufacturers to get it together on EVs really.
They've got the configurator up for the F-150 Lightning and unless you like cloth interiors they're really damn expensive for what they are. Like 80+ grand no matter what if you want the big battery.

I’m sure some company is working on that right now as there is economic incentive to successfully recycle or dispose of EV batteries. Maybe battery replacements will go down in the future as more EV cars hit the road and stockrooms are filled with parts.

No lie...if all trucks were EVs, some smaller sedans can be had with ICEs and EVs, and sports cars retain mega ICEs...I'd be happy. Convert the worst polluting cars into the least and it'll make a massive dent without shoving EVs down everyone's throats. I'd love to own a good EV with great range as a daily. I just don't want one as a driver's car.
Also, how long until major cities like NYC, SanFran, London, etc. can fully adapt to EVs? Will people really be willing to lose 20-40 mins at a station somewhere? Seek out EV specific parking spots in a jammed ass city to charge their car? Porsche offers 20 min charging, but in a cold ass climate...I don't want to sit in my car for 20 minutes while it charges at a car park or station somewhere. And only get 80% range from that charge too. And the infrastructure for 20 minute charging is basically non-existent. When will we get 10 minute charges to be within a tolerable time range.
EVs are easy solutions for people with HOMES and GARAGES...but those who live in apartment buildings and street park? Hassle.

For inside the city? More likely they go the way of Paris and ban cars instead.
Which would be the right thing to do. NYC needs a public transit overhaul but driving into Manhattan is worse.

Nah, fuck that. NYC mass transit is forever shit. No overhaul can fix the lack of foresight the planners had creating that trash heap. I also like driving into the city, it's quite fun. I don't want to have to rely on mass transit to get in and out of a tiny island. I want the comfort of my own car, in the warmth or cool air surrounded by no one but myself or the people I'm with.
You've clearly forgotten what it's like to be stuck in SoHo near the Holland Tunnel no matter how good your car is
By reilo Go To PostYou've clearly forgotten what it's like to be stuck in SoHo near the Holland Tunnel no matter how good your car is
I didn't forget. I hardly ever went into Jersey through the Holland Tunnel. Lincoln is better. They need to build some bridges to support those tunnels, though. They're crap. The few times I did enter Manhattan from the Holland was a nightmare, but that's more to do with traffic regulation being so poor in Manhattan. The tunnels should funnel out into a highway and not multiple different streets going different directions. Force traffic one way and let them adjust their travel of direction later.
This is actually precisely what I wanted to say earlier as I writing an edit. Driving in Manhattan sucks because there's always something wrong with the entry and exit points, be it the tunnel or bridges. Once you're properly in it's not terrible, especially at night.

rain and freezing temps on the road this morning and CT DOT couldn’t treat the roads because it was too cold Tuesday night and too windy this morning
Holy fuck one of the most stressful drives I’ve made
Saw numerous accidents on the way in including a semi that jack knifed and had flammable on the trailer (which busted open btw). 730 calls on the roads between 3am and when it passed and one person died.

Oh, yeah. Forgot to warn you about the North East's abysmal responses to threatening weather. Have fun.
NYC and its surrounding areas, including much of CT and all of Long Island, are NOT built to withstand moderately inclement weather. What is normally a 2 hour rain storm in Florida causes absolute catastrophe on a Biblical scale in NYC. A 50MPH wind obliterates powerlines, trees, facades of buildings, you name it. Mass transit is knocked out for hours and hours (sometimes days) with flooding and damage (this is why banning cars in Manhattan is an awful idea).
My suggestion for you new New York transplants is to stay the fuck home when the weather gets rough.

That's more or less how I want it to shake out too- just convert all the mainstream stuff to EV first and then let it trickle down. Sports cars are a different thing entirely and should just stay gas with the one exception of maybe that Rimac that sounds like a damned angry TIE fighter. Badass.
EVs just have way too damn many advantages in terms of packaging and NVH to not take over every kind of mainstream daily like, yesterday. With trucks it's a bit more complicated because of their advantages in terms of towing and long range driving- but if you're using it as a big family vehicle the benefits are again too much to ignore.
Sucks that I'm looking at getting a truck again very soon and all these EV ones being unobtanium for probably 3 years or so. With my house being what it is I kind of need it and I've limped along without for too damn long now.
The Silverado EV might actually be uglier than the Cybertruck and that's saying something. Dig the range and power though:
