By Patriotism Go To Postmashallah smokey, you deserve it
thank you brother.
took a 30 minute solo driver earlier and it felt good, but that urge to push it is strong. i have to respect the break in period ;_;
E: Break in period is 2000 miles and avoiding going over 4000 RPM
By Kibner Go To PostThem ventilated seats are nice on hot, humid days.
the heated steering wheel is also really nice. with it being ~32f today it was one of the first things i tried, and yep, it heats alright.
Reading through the quick start/manual and they do a good job of breaking the info down and presenting it to you. On brake squeal for example:
Porsche’s are engineered to be high performance vehicles, you might hear your brakes squeal, but more importantly you’ll feel them stop— at the drop of a dime. Scan the QR code to watch and learn more about your high performance brakes
Which takes you here, a 4 min semi tech video of Porsche talking about brakes and performance:
There is also an app called Porsche Good to Know that also has all those videos and a light, digital version of the manual. Definitely worth checking out.
I don't know if your car came equipped with Porsche Connect, but that is another potential app worth trying out.
I think they also have another one that can show you some popular, fun roads near you, but it may be more focused around Europe, I don't remember.

By Kibner Go To PostOof, that break in period is rough. I wish you the best of luck!
FR
It'll be followed to a T though, I don't need issues popping up on the backend because I was impatient and ignored the break in period. I do have Porsche Connect on the car. Haven't had a chance to see what it's all about.
He finally did it, lads. Congrats to all who don't have to entertain Smokey's questions anymore. Hahaha :D
Enjoy the new whip, Smokey!

Can't break a car in on road trips. Consistent RPMs for long periods of time are not good for fresh motors.

I mean…if we’re going by the book, it says not to exceed 4000 rpm during those 2k miles. So to me just driving it in a “normal” way, isn’t going to exceed that anyway unless I were to manually shift during the entirety of the period?
By Blue Go To PostNice car! I don’t ever look at German cars for a future purchase but those pics look nice.
Thanks!
What’s the reason for avoiding them?
By Pedja Go To PostWhat's recommended, just normal daily driving?
Yeah, basically. The reason for this:
3. DO VARY YOUR SPEED
During that initial period of breaking in the engine, make sure that you vary the vehicle speed and the engine speed, rather than setting the cruise control to 65 mph and knocking it all off in one road trip. If the cylinders don’t move up and down at different rates during the break-in period, then the pistons rings won’t seat themselves evenly. For a manual transmission vehicle, it’s even more important to vary the load on the drivetrain, so that the clutch also sees a variety of temperatures evenly distributed across it.
By Smokey Go To PostYeah I did read to not use cruise control.
You have a link to where you got that from Alpha?
This was on Napa, the parts store. https://knowhow.napaonline.com/4-engine-break-dos-donts/
But basically every forum or reliable source of info you read will say the same thing. Some OEMs print this in their break in procedure instructions in the form of either not using cruise control or varying engine RPMs and avoiding long trips.
https://www.google.com/search?q=varying+speed+during+engine+break+in&oq=vary&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j69i57j0i433i512l2j0i512l2j0i433i512j0i512l3.1327j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Price and complexity of maintenance. Simple maintenance tasks that end up costing a lot. I’ve driven Honda and Toyota all my life so I’m used to simple tasks being simple or hardly encountering anything beyond preventative maintenance.
Damn congrats Smokey!
You did really good by getting an S. The base Macan is great on its own, but the S feels like a completely different car imo.
And if I may suggest your first mod, get rid of those orange/amber lights at the front and switch to the clear or smoked lights. I dunno if it's a factory part/option(and if it was, it's probably too damn expensive anyway lmao) but I've seen a couple of customers come in on the day of delivery with a set of clear lights and we install it for them while they're doing the paperwork with finance. Doesn't seem too difficult to do either, one of our techs did it on the delivery bay in less than 10 minutes lol.

Had plans today and drove the car to a spot about 1.5 hrs away. Sensational even during this early period.
The way it feels in the corners
I was using manual shifting from time to time and let the RPMs get to 4000. Did nothing but make me want to push it harder ;_;
Was hitting ~100 without even realizing it kibner pls

It's really easy to go way too fast in those cars. lmao
They just get up to speed so effortlessly. Don't even have to push the pedal down halfway to get to 100.

By Smokey Go To PostBeen a long time coming. My brothers in this very thread and at the old place used to always give me crap. But today, I am proud to welcome a new member to the stable:Congrats! That’s the exact car I’ve had my eye on since test driving one earlier this year (except I test drove a 2015). Planning to try to get one next year after buying a house. Looks really good in black.
2021 Macan S with 12 miles on the dash. New New. Been plotting for a while, and finally took the jump. Had to pay markup too smh. A HORRIBLE time to buy a car but it is what it is. Got to break it in before letting it loose.
Very happy to be a member of Porsche gang. Financed it so it'll be a part of the lineup for some time. It joins the 138k 2014 miles Honda Accord V6 Coupe that is still moving and grooving 😤

Think the 2021/2022 are the last of the gas Macans. The next gen one is going to be EV because ofc it is.
Ours actually isn’t black black. Think it’s officially called Jet Black Metallic. There was a Macan also awaiting pickup that was truly black and I thought ours stood out a bit more. From afar it definitely looks solid black but as you get closer you can see the difference .
Oh wow, according to CARFAX, the Trade-In Value of my Cayman is 91% of the original list price I paid for it three years ago.

That’s amazing
I’d seriously think about it, but it would depend on how far you are into your (finance?) term, and if I had any kind of attachment to the car.
By Smokey Go To PostThat’s amazingI have two years left on my note. And the next step up would have a similar level note, I think.

First fill up — $70 at 4.29/g, Premium 93.
Cost of doing business
One thing that I’m not too thrilled about is the wireless charging capability for my phone. You put the phone in a holder under the arm rest and it charges, it just doesn’t seem to do it very well, and the phone gets hot. Also have to take it out of my case etc. Meh.

Hot new wheels Smokey, congrats man. Makes me want to shop but I need to wait a on that for another year or so and probably will get a truck.

Pretty sure no place in the US sells above 94
I also think octane ratings differ from state to state. California only goes up to 91 but its technically higher rated?

Probably would’ve got a Raptor if I was still in Texas tbh. But I have thankfully left that forsaken state for the beautiful East Coast.
By Lunatic Go To Postaren't performance vehicles supposed to get 95 octane.
Nah at least not here. Specifically says 93 by the gas tank.
12 miles on the car last Thursday (delivery). 402 after getting home from work today, imma eat up this 2000 😈
Strange must be location based for the tunes I guess or actually just different standards.
edit: ahh actually my car says 95 RON not octane. Which lead to my confusion.

Yes, that'd be US AKI 91 grade. 93 is our premium. Some lesser states only have 91, which is just sad.

Nah bruv. Your 91 is 91 in the entire US. Cali sucks for that reason. The US uses AKI nationwide.
Does octane still really matter in 2022?
Of course for proper performance cars, octane does matter but don't most modern cars/engines/ECU's have the ability to detect the type of gas and retard the timing to prevent knocking... so theoretically it shouldn't matter? Right??
And from my personal experience, I exclusively fill up my GTI with Premium/93 but I've done Regular/87 once or twice out of curiosity and honestly, the difference seemed minimal. Or rather, a non-factor especially when you're just daily driving. It didn't feel like it was down on power, rather it just felt like it lost some pep in its step.
Honestly? Not much besides the amber/orange lights.
The majority of the owners I've met are the wives or dudes who daily a Macan while having a 911/Cayman/Boxster as their toy so it's specced as exactly how they want it and don't really do anything else lol.
I know the base model has mods available since it pretty much uses the same engine as my GTI but the S models don't have a lot I think.

Yea it definitely does matter a lot. These are precision machines and even though they have higher tolerances they still are made to operate in specific range. Remember it's a fine balance to harness controlled explosions in the combustion chamber.

Pulling timing = reduction of power. Companies like Mazda specifically advertise two different HP and TQ ratings on their 2.5L Turbo engine based on 87 vs 93 ratings. Octane directly correlates to power increase and decrease. Yes, cars have knock sensors, but they're there to prevent engine knock/ping/damage. You won't feel much difference daily driving with light acceleration and in high traffic situations. But moderate to high applications of throttle will yield noticeable loss in torque, especially in forced-induction vehicles. High-end suffers drastically too. Naturally aspirated cars are affected, but to a lesser extent.
