By reilo Go To Post🤫Porsche 718 GT4 or Porsche 718 Boxster Spyder? At least strike it off the list 😃
Might have an announcement soon
I'm 6'4 pretty sure I can't even fit proper in a Cayman but if I were to get a Porsche coupe it would be straight to the 911.
Haha I forgot that you are tall as shit. I guess that only really leaves you with British manufacturers as you hate American vehicles 🤔
Nah I fit just fine inside fine Germany machinery
My E92 M3 was plenty roomy up front, along with the C63 AMG I drove. As are Porsches -- but I haven't sat inside a Cayman just seems it'd be too small for me. 911s are just fine.

To clarify, I test drove a C63 AMG and Audi RS5 alongside my F-Type 3 years ago. I am beyond that now 😎
By Kidjr Go To PostAlpha your choice is between 570 and r8? If so, I don't
really understand the choice here lol. Do pros for the r8 over a 570 even exist?
Of course they do. The R8 has the nicer sounding and more responsive engine. It's not faster, but the engine is definitely a modern masterpiece. It's more reliable than the Mac and costs 3x less to warranty. The R8 has a more traditional brake pedal feel, compared to the barely-boosted firm brake pedal of the 570S, which is definitely weird and unusual. The interior of the R8 is less spartan and has more creature comforts, with better build quality and materials. Likewise, the R8 has a much better dealer network in the event the car needs to be towed somewhere.
The R8 definitely has a lot going for it over the Mac. Kind of surprised at the question, tbh.
Kidjr isn't a car dude, he doesn't truly understand the situation so you will have to give him a bly.
By AlphaSnacks Go To Postm8 probably just confused/upset a German car has upside over a British one?Nah just probably a badge whore as him pulling up in a Mac directly affects his PnL. A Mac is viewed as more exotic than an Audi as German badges are everywhere in London.
McLaren's about to be an Audi anyway, so really, buying a current Mac doesn't make any sense when it's about to get infinitely better. 🤷🏽♂️
Yeah, Mac shut down the rumor but I think it's still happening.
AFAIK, despite everything they've done the entire McLaren group is still losing boatloads of money and unless they can somehow produce and release an SUV(yuck) within the next 6 months and maybe win the F1 constructor's championship, the chances of them surviving on their own are probably slim.
And no one else wants to buy them either besides Audi I think. Porsche's rumored to be partnering with Red Bull Racing in 2-3 years once the Honda to RBR transition is complete and BMW really doesn't want to get back into F1 (apparently they still have nightmares from the BMW Sauber era 😂 not to mention how they don't really give two shits about racing these days), so that really leaves it up to Audi since they supposedly are desperate to get into F1.
Personally, I feel like the denial was because the ink hasn't dried yet(plus regulator approvals or whatever EU rules exist). We'll probably see an announcement once the F1 season is done as that'd be the perfect time to unveil an Audi McLaren F1 team, along with the new livery and all that stuff on the cars.

Audi buying McLaren would make them infinitely worse and more unreliable. I still don't think that rumor has any credibility. I've actually been told that BMW helped design the motor of the McLaren Artura. So I do believe there's some credibility to the BMW talks. But Audi? Ehhh. They have Lamborghini, I don't get why they'd need Mac.

Supposedly it's all on the fact that they really want an in on F1.
There's really no other team that they can buy other than Haas, McLaren, Alfa Romeo and maybe Williams. But Williams is a no go as they're practically Mercedes' second team right now, Alfa Romeo/Peter Sauber supposedly has control issues according to Michael Andretti, and Haas is pretty much bankrolled by Mazespin's dad, so McLaren seems to be the only viable choice for the moment.
Outside of F1 though, you're right, Audi doesn't really need Mac. And it really doesn't make any sense for them to acquire the entire Mac group just to get a foot inside the door to F1. But Volkswagen seems to let their brands run on their own accord, so who knows what's gonna happen. As an F1 and VAG fan though, it'd be pretty interesting to see Audi battle Porsche on the track lol.
By Old King Rob Go To PostAlpha I thought you hated Audi
90% of Audis are fucking shit, even the new ones (ask me how I know...). The R8 is a Lamborghini and I'd never own an R8 without warranty. In the past year alone, I put like $4K on the warranty (which cost me only $3K for 3 years). The guy before me had no warranty and in 2 years spent $20K fixing shit (I have all the paperwork). It's absurd how many failing parts these cars have: A/C compressors, oil pumps, magnetic suspension failures, front subframe fractures, and the occasional random electrical or sensor failure.
Having said that, fun car and drives sublimely. It's hard for me to imagine the McLaren experience being worse, as far as reliability.

Driven both, so I guess I'm thinking fun factor rather than the day to day practicality. R8 sounds great but 570 was waaaaaaayyyyy more fun and responsive to drive.
I have a deposit on my R8...let's see if the guy comes through with his papers and financing next week. I think I'm going to get the 2014 R8 V10 Coupe. Been talking to the owner of the dealership, and he just may deliver it to me 550 miles away on his hauler.
So I finally got to drive the new GTI and it's fantastic!
But not at $40k. 😬
The shifter feels more or less the same as my 2016, the engine pulls harder but that's to be expected as it's got 11hp and 15 lb-ft of torques more than mine. Braking performance is pretty good but it's definitely not as good as mine... I think brake sizes are the same but I have EBC Redstuff pads on mine versus the VW stock pads so it's definitely an unfair comparison. Sound wise, the new one definitely sounds better compared to a stock MK7, but mine has no mufflers so it definitely sounds better... again another unfair comparison lol.
The Interior also just feels the same as well. I know people have been complaining about the touchscreen climate controls and all that, but I've been driving the ID4 since April(it has the same infotainment setup as this GTI) so I don't really have an issue with it. In fact I'm actually shocked that VW keeps improving the system coz it's fast af right now. Probably as fast Porsche's and BMWs system but not as fast as iDrive 8.
But yeah, the car is great but I just don't think it's worth selling mine for the new one. They're both very similar cars in terms of the driving experience so I'm not really missing much at all. Maybe a middle trim that's like $35k would be worth it, or just go all out with the $43k Golf R. But a $40k GTI? That's a tough pill to swallow for a mild upgrade.
Just got my state inspection done today almost exactly the same day as last year and according to their records I’ve driven my car just under 4000 miles in the past year. My 2010 Camry only has like 128k miles so it may last me the rest of my life at this rate lol
The new family car coming on Thursday. Still awaiting for my R8 to sell...dude's bank is taking forever to issue his check.
Tan interior with white exterior is a great combination. Makes the interior feel roomier then it is.

That's LONDON Tan to you, m8. It's brown/orange, really. I love it.
By reilo Go To PostCongrats! Do you still have the F Pace then?
No sirree, traded in.
Just had the new XJ delivered to me. Drove it about an hour. What a pleasant car. Effortless in almost everything it does, and it even handles pretty well. Great steering and great steering feel. Wonderfully quiet on one of the louder and choppier highways we have here. Car is lighter than the F-Pace S and also RWD (as opposed to AWD), so it's a little quicker for sure. It's got 20K miles on it, but pretty darn clean all around. Needs a detail for sure, paint is pretty swirled up. But that's a quick fix.
It's not S-Class levels of luxury and tech, but quite frankly, I've long disliked overly complicated luxury cars that are full of tech gimmicks. I MUCH prefer the stateliness of the XJ...it IS the Queen's car, after all. It's also impressive that a luxury car like the XJ weighs 3950lbs (in the spec that I have), because that's just how far all aluminum and no worthless tech goes.

By Lunatic Go To PostWhat's Smokey-senpai high and dry in now?A fun family vehicle.
Been a long time coming. My brothers in this very thread and at the old place used to always give me crap. But today, I am proud to welcome a new member to the stable:
2021 Macan S with 12 miles on the dash. New New. Been plotting for a while, and finally took the jump. Had to pay markup too smh. A HORRIBLE time to buy a car but it is what it is. Got to break it in before letting it loose.
Very happy to be a member of Porsche gang. Financed it so it'll be a part of the lineup for some time. It joins the 138k 2014 miles Honda Accord V6 Coupe that is still moving and grooving 😤
Oh buddy nice buy. Always dream of owning a Porsche. Macan's are a beast. Can just imagine Smokey finally getting in a German and realising how much he was missing. The level of refinement in Porsche's is on another plane of existence.
Anyone willing to take bets that Smokey's next car is a Cayman or a 911?

I had a BMW 335 that I bought in 2011 and kept until 2017. I had that and the current Honda was my wife's car. Once we sold it, we were a one car household until today. Obviously this Macan being 13 years newer is a world of a difference in comfort/quality from my BMW, but that car was a blast to drive. I believe that gen was the last before they went to electric steering and eventually ended up where they are today. RIP.
