Another thing that I've noticed after driving several different vehicles within the last month (impala, mini s, Macan) is that the brakes on my Cayman have spoiled me. They are smoother, more responsive, and quicker to stop. I'm sure some of this is due to the weights and balances of each vehicle and not just the brakes themselves.
They also make you more dangerous because drivers behind you that don't pay attention make it more likely to rear end you so you can't even use them properly
By reilo Go To PostThey also make you more dangerous because drivers behind you that don't pay attention make it more likely to rear end you so you can't even use them properlyI've picked up on this a while back so I don't brake hard too often because of it. Lol
I'm hyper aware of it because people drive dumb/too close and don't have as good of stopping power as me
Nearly 2k USD later, I have my new tires. Still have to wear them in a bit but I already noticed that they make for a softer ride than the stock tires.
By reilo Go To PostYou notice any road noise differences? Not offhand. Will have to listen did it next time I get in. With the engine right behind my head, it tends to get drowned out.
The dealership handed me a sheet after they did the realignment with the new tires. Apparently, the new tires force a very tiny bit extra of toe-in that brings that particular part of the alignment every so slightly out of Porsche spec.
So far, I really like the new tires. The ride is just a little bit softer and I have a strong grip to the road, though I don't know if they feel stronger than the stock tires did a couple years ago; they both gave me a feeling of the car being "planted" to the road.
I will be taking them out onto the toll road tomorrow for a dr.'s appointment so I may be able to tell if they reduce road noise since that is pretty much the only time I go fast enough for long enough to hear it.

I don't really notice a big difference of road noise at high speeds with the new tires over the stock tires. I'm sure there is some difference, but the car already didn't have a lot of road noise to begin with.
BERLIN — BMW beat analysts' forecasts on Wednesday with a 42.4% increase in third quarter net profits to 2.58 billion euros ($2.99 billion) as higher prices and strong electric vehicle (EV) sales offset lower deliveries due to scarce chips.
Why were they so inspired by older cars and yet still added fuckin touch screens
Literally the worst thing about modern cars and that’s the one thing they kept

Don't worry, analog will come back too. The pendulum swings.
Looking to buy a new car, or used, whichever is the best option. I don't really know shit about cars but I know I hate touch screens. Looking for something at a max 30k, 4 seater and preferably something compatible with CarPlay as I don't want to keep using a phone mount. Was looking at a Accord, K5, and then briefly considered a 2018 XF Jaguar that I saw on Carvana for around 22k with only 15k miles.
BMW removed touchscreen functionality from I-Drive due to chip shortages...and honestly....thank God. I still enjoy using the traditional controller on my M3's I-Drive.

Came in the top spot this year

One factor boosting Mazda's scores: It hasn't invested heavily in modern infotainment systems, which tend to generate complaints about flaws.
"They’re just about the only manufacturer that’s launching new models without a touch screen," Fisher said.
Mazda achieved the highest overall score among 26 rated brands, due in part to what Consumer Reports called an iterative approach to vehicle redesign. In other words, Mazda doesn't change a lot when it redesigns its vehicles, making it less likely that its vehicles will experience unexpected flaws and defects due to new technology.
"When it comes to reliability, it's always been this argument of making the cars exciting or making them reliable," Fisher said. Mazda "shows you can make cars that are fun and reliable."Exactly as I said lol

Man, I think I’m done with liking the Dodge Charger. They are so played out over here and give me the impression of being the new fuckboi car along with the Z and genesis coupe cars. Sucks because I like the size and look of the car.
Maybe I’ll check out the EV version but I’ll be looking at other options for a full-size sedan in the future.

This was a fun day in the office. As soon as word spread, peeps on our allocation lists would be calling every hour or so. 🙄
Looking forward to 2-3 years from now with all the lease returns, these touchscreen-less cars are probably gonna flood the market and cause a dip in BMW CPO pricing. The way a majority of people are big mad about the lack of a touchscreen is kinda worrying, but I'm not complaining.
Personally, as long as the gesture options remain on these touchscreen-less cars, these BMWs are gonna be the ones to get... and if an M340i or X3 M40i pops up at the right time, I might have a new daily. 😂
Listen up, America. Adaptive driving beams are finally going to become legal, thanks to a provision in the infrastructure bill. This is great news for nighttime driving safety — your author is particularly excited that this technology will finally be legal in cars sold in the U.S.
So, how has this tech finally found a path to legality? For years it’s been barred due to outdated regulations in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108. The exact language that held manufacturers back specifically states that headlights must have a dedicated low beam and dedicated high beam to be compliant and road legal.Fucking finally
I think I read somewhere that BMW are purposefully marketing as seen above, they want the world to know they're moving on, that they're done with the past, and that they're fully embracing the future design... That they're not scared to push limits, discover new boundaries and etc. What the fuck do they care about the past, they're making record profits.
Shame because their late 80s, 90s and to a lesser extent early 2000s designs were a class of their own. E46 M3 for example, timeless. The late 90s M5s, ouf, so good.
Out of the Germans I think Audi is still king right now, their designs are industry leading with everyone scrambling to copy them.

This is actually on the money. I talked to BMW reps last year when the new M3's were being toured around the country and they basically told me the same thing.
To add, they absolutely know that the enthusiast customers has hard carried the brand since the Bangle-era but supposedly sometime around 2015, the shift from enthusiast to standard luxury customers became painfully obvious to them that they figured they don't have to rely on that heritage to sell cars anymore. They're practically experimenting right now with these designs and despite the huge backlash online it really hasn't had a major effect on sales so here we are.
@Old King Rob:
Lexus is back on top of Consumer Reports' annual reliability rankings. Toyota Motor Corp's luxury division dethrones last year's winner, upstart Mazda, to second place, while the Toyota brand itself rounds out the podium in third place. In general, while Asian brands topped the list, Europeans ranked second, and domestics brought up the rear.https://www.autoblog.com/2021/11/19/consumer-reports-reliability-rankings-llexus-mazdaa/
My mom’s Corolla is coming on 20 years and has presented no big problems yet. Hoping my Toyota does the same.
So it's about that time for me to buy a new car (LOL). My 2012 R8 V10 Spyder has been a ton of fun. I really, reaally like the car quite a bit. But there are things that do annoy me: 1) I'm not crazy about the single clutch transmission, especially from a start. 2) I don't find myself needing or using the convertible a whole lot. In FL it's either too hot or too bright to have the top down. So what do I want?
I've really narrowed it down to a McLaren 570S or ANOTHER Audi R8 V10, but this time a 2014-15 R8 coupe with the dual clutch. The coupes are 400lbs lighter, and with the DCT, make for a much quicker car. Plus a $800 tune gets these V10s making their full 610HP, as Lamborghini intended. In the past week, I've been doing some test drives. I got the keys to a McLaren 570S last week and I fucking loved it. I was allowed to keep it for a day. It's performance completely exceeded my expectations, and so did its speed. It amazed me that McLaren actually makes a car so much faster than this in the 720S and 765LT. The interior on the Macs are spartan, they are track ready weapons. But I really dig that. There's just enough tech in the car to not feel outdated...and of course, the doors. Getting back into my plain-doors R8 made me feel like a chump.
On Sunday I was given the keys to a Huracan Evo, which I didn't enjoy quite as much as the McLaren. It's steering is too light and overboosted, especially compared to the weight of the R8's steering, and the McLaren's. The interior is full of tech, especially the Evos which added a much needed center console touch screen display. The overall performance of the Huracan didn't feel ages ahead of a tuned 2014 R8 Coupe. The transmissions are basically the same 7-speed DCTs, and the V10s are identical, just in different stages of tune controlled by the software. I got lost in the Huracan's value proposition, much in the same way I was lost in why anyone would be a V8 Vantage over the Merc AMG GTS or any other car in that price range. The only reason someone would buy a Huracan over the equivalent R8 is purely for the badge and because they have an extra $100K to burn. Lamborghini really should've done a better job in separating the Huracan from the R8, at the very least, with its doors. If I wanted Lamborghini performance for 1/3rd the cost, I'd buy a 2014-2015 R8 and save close to 200K. If I wanted Lamborghini performance + all the tech for half the cost, I'd buy a 2017+ R8 V10 and tune it.
Anyway, I'm in talks to hopefully trade my 2012 in for the 2014 R8 I found. Crossing my fingers. Unless the right 570S comes along, which in THAT case, I'd have to sell both my F-Type R and R8, since the Mac costs about 40K more used.

By Lunatic Go To PostSounds like great problem to have 😂 also do Mac's still drop in value a ton?
The 570S did a bit...But the 720S are really holding on. A 4 year old 570S that was 200K new is about 165K now. So that's not really bad at all.
Alpha your choice is between 570 and r8? If so, I don't
really understand the choice here lol. Do pros for the r8 over a 570 even exist?

Yea that engine produces the sound of Valhalla with the V12 making the sound of Valkyrie's battle cry
Fucking hell even sy has fallen in love with Porsche. Yea sy Porsche's has a timeless designs. Also one of the most is not the most valued manufacturers amongst car enthusiasts. I believe that one is a 993? The 964s are the most wanted which I have to agreed are the perfect mixture of old and new. reilo would kill a man for the chance to buy a 964
