FWD is generally fine in the snow. I drove a Civic in Colorado for years and it did way better than you think. Just sucks if you're trying to go uphill from a dead stop really. Rather have that than RWD in that situation, that's for sure.
Test drove a Q5 55e PHEV today. I like it a lot, fiance LOVES it. Surprisingly next level compared to my A5.
It's basically all the power and 95% of the handling of a mid grade sport SUV with way better gas mileage. (One I drove had an air suspension and sport package)

That’s the problem here, there are a lot of speed bumps 😂
Those Audi E-Trons look good in the snow though.

That the Etron? The ass end looks weird with those chevrons. They are going to sell a shit ton of those though.
Yea officially announced coming to Spring in Europe and Summer in US. It's basically a Taycan. Starts at $99,000
The E-Tron GT comes in two trims: the E-Tron GT Quattro, and the higher-performance RS E-Tron GT. Both get all-wheel drive via a pair of electric motors, and a 93-kilowatt-hour battery (of which 86 kWh is actually usable) good for 300 miles of driving range on Europe’s generous WLTP testing cycle. Sharing the Porsche Taycan’s 800-volt battery architecture, the E-Tron GT can charge at up to 270 kW, which can charge the pack from 5% to 80% in 22.5 minutes.
The E-Tron GT Quattro’s front motor provides 175 kW (235 horsepower), while the rear makes 320 kW (429 hp), putting total output normally peaks at 350 kW (469 hp) and 465 pound-feet of torque. Launch control boosts net output to 390 kW (523 hp) for a period of 2.5 seconds. As such, it can do 0-60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds. Max speed is 152 mph.
The RS model, which features a more powerful rear motor (335 kW/450 hp), boasts a net 440 kW (590 hp) and 612 lb-ft., with launch control raising power temporarily to 475 kW (637 hp). It’ll do 0-60 in just 3.1 ticks (a tenth of a second quicker than the Audi R8 V10 Performance), with a top speed of 155 mph.
Hard to say if the Taycan or E-Tron GT is more droolworthy. Both are rad. Like the exterior on the Porsche a bit more but the interior on the Audi better. Cost is closer than I'd like but I imagine the Taycan is more sports car and the E-Tron is more GT.
That e-Tron looks very good. I think the taillights are a bit too large at the ends, though. Still, it's nice.

OM NOM NOM - love that E46
Looks great.
They had an Imola Red one here with garage queen miles not that long ago but 50 grand for it was a pretty steep ask IMO.

Oh my.
That E-Tron made me feel things, but that E46 just ended everything.
Whew.
Jokes aside... as much as I love the Taycan, the E-Tron definitely has it beat in the looks department imo.
The way I see it, the Taycan is what the future looks like while the E-Tron is the future today.

Mercedes-AMG is leveraging electrification as a replacement for displacement as it develops the next-generation C63. While the current model is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8, the company confirmed its successor will make its debut in the not-too-distant future with a hybrid drivetrain built around a four-cylinder engine.RIP AMG
Reports sketching the outline of a seriously downsized C63 first appeared in 2019, and Mercedes-AMG confirmed that they're accurate in a February 2021 interview with Car & Driver. While technical specifications remain secret, the gasoline-electric hybrid system that will power the next C63 will develop at least 500 horsepower, according to the publication, so its output will be about on par with the current V8's 503-horse rating.
That sucks, but we're really getting into the danger zone where big displacement sports cars are concerned. I figure you've got maybe 3-5 years before such a thing doesn't exist. Hell, there's maybe 5 good NA sports cars with a manual transmission left that you can even buy and half of those are Porsche units.
Allow me to rant about Doug DeMuro's latest pile of shit video and why I found myself taking offense to it...
It's about a Russian car called the Volga GAZ 24. As a kid growing up in the Soviet Union, watching this irked me quite a bit. The absolute berating of what we lived with, what we aspired to own, and even the extremely well thought out first-aid kit in the car (as petty as it sounds for me to complain about his "thoughts" on the first aid kit...watch the video and you might understand why it pissed me off). A lot of it shows ignorance to why Russian life was the way it was. And in how and why exactly the Volga was what it was. It's brushed upon briefly, but is largely ignored throughout the video where he hysterically (fake?) laughs throughout it. Seriously, is it me or is that laughing seem fake?
The Volga was actually a very desirable car for a long time. It was some of the best we had, because Soviet regimes serving us through the Cold War era had us isolated from the world. We couldn't have the luxuries of the outside world. Heck, my uncle (may he rest in peace) used to work and spend nearly a month's worth of money to buy bootleg vinyls of Beatles records, and he did so under the radar. It was basically illegal to buy western products. The Soviet people made do with what we had, despite enduring a struggle and significant shortages of product to manufacture cars like the Volga.
Shitting on this car is the equivalent of shitting on any poor and struggling country. American cars of the 80s are shitted on because this country had all the resources in the world and still managed to build absolute clunkers that were worth next to nothing in 2-3 years time. It's like the overprivileged rich kid who kept flunking classes, meanwhile the poor foreign exchange student who barely speaks English passed all of his with nothing more than a pen and paper.
The trash video in question. I encourage you to watch this, and also feel free to tell me if I'm being a bitch. LOL

yeah dougs a bit of a goofy weirdo, a shame there aren't more in depth reviewers with access to a lot of cars that aren't annoying
I've owned a lot of 80s cars, and other than the styling, it really doesn't seem that outdated. No rear seatbelts is odd, but kei vans didn't have them either even into the 90s.
I like how he showed what western car makers were making at the same time as if they were works of art and not optimus primes shoulder pads.

The car debuted in 1969. Seatbelts weren't mandated at the time, either.

LMAO. My thoughts exactly. American cars in the late 70s, 80s and early 90s were dreadful looking and could barely dodge rusting away. What the Russians did with the Volga on such sparse budgets was impressive, considering massive empires like like Ford were releasing trash like Tempos (my family had one) and Pintos around the same exact time.
But that Gaz was considered luxury and only available to the highest class, correct?
If comparing to Ford, wouldn't a Lada, Trabant or Yugo be more comparable?
A Youtube channel that examines the design and manufacturing limitations of cars during Communism and applies that to a review sounds like a different channel.

Yes, the Volga was a car limited to only the prestigious. My grandfather, who was a famed singer in Uzbekistan, was on the list for one that my dad would be driving. But come 91 and 92, we all left for the US. But yes, with our limited resources, that was a luxury car for us. But it cost about the equivalent of a Ford Tempo, though. We didn't really have crazy extravagant cars apart from one called the Chaika, also made by GAZ.
Chaika's were beautiful, tbh. They were for dignitaries and politicians only. They had a push button transmission, 5.5L V8s. 200HP+. Not too shabby. They were built from 1959 into 1981 for the 1st gen. 2nd gen debuted in 1977. I didn't like the 2nd gen car much.

My parents are Turkish Cypriots but I was born in the UK. Listening to Uzbek, Uygur, Kazakh etc is like listening to my parents as a kid when I barely understood Turkish but had the general idea what the conversation was about lol.

Looks like I will need to start saving my money from this new job so that I can get the last NA Porsche as I know that day won't be too far off from Jaguar's.
I imagine Porsche will still be doing the GT series for a while because of electrifying the rest of range. Basically as soon as they do the Cayenne and Macan they will be good.
So sad
Every car manufacturer is becoming so fucking homogenous with each other that many won't be distinguishable a decade from now.
Hope y'all like midsize CUV EVs or pickup trucks because that's all you'll fucking get

Yeah, and it's a thing that needs fixing for safety reasons, too. I mean...
https://www.iihs.org/api/datastoredocument/bibliography/2219
TLDR women get injured more than men and get more severe injuries too, but when you control for vehicle size the problem "magically" disappears.
It's also amazing how you just can't even buy a compact truck any more and midsize trucks are the size of 1500s from less than 10 years ago.

I mean it's what people seem to want and manufacturrs can charge a premium for raising their entry level vehicles a few inches.
Is it though or are they flooded with the same options over and over?
It's hilarious how we even got here. I remember driving in the back of an OG M-Class as a teenager (already 6'+ tall at that point) and thinking to myself "wow this thing is so fucking tiny and small despite being an SUV wtf".
I know it's only grown in size since then but it's hilarious we managed to sell people inferior vehicles all around because they think they get some inherent amenities.

I blame big city regulators for banning ICEs. Limited quantities of ICE sports cars should be permitted as specialty vehicles.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostI blame big city regulators for banning ICEs. Limited quantities of ICE sports cars should be permitted as specialty vehicles. That doesn't add up given that the worst type of vehicles for emissions are large vehicles especially SUVs!! If people bought cars in the right size they needed and not cars in an overgrown size they think they might need for that camping trip/road trip with their friends once a year then we'd all be in a better place.
But nah, we instead got people commuting daily in their giant fucking SUVs by themselves.
Way I figure it, it's a human centipede of toxic exceptionalism/individualism, large open country, poor transport infrastructure and urban planning and a crapload of corn syrup driving the problem. I mean, it's harder to smell your own double wide ass gas sitting in traffic if your vehicle is huge after all.

The Chevy Bolt is now a compact SUV with 250 miles of range and ‘hands-free’ driving

The bans started in Europe though, where cars are considerably smaller and the thirst for massive SUVs isn't as dramatic. Likewise for Japan (Tokyo). They've basically forced manufacturers to stop making a certain type of car. Paris enacted a law on decibels that California adopted too...and thus cars like the F-Type get neutered exhausts after 2018 (that can luckily be by-passed in 30 seconds). All of Europe now has cars with these exhaust filters on them too, that further muffle the fuck out of the car. It's bullshit. The most dreadful, lifeless, and boring people at the party are telling us what songs to play and what punch to drink.
Prices of certain used gasoline vehicles will skyrocket in the mid-west/flyover states. No way is your average redneck going to give up his F150 for an electric one.
JLR going all-electric sucks but it's for the better I think.
Jaguar practically feels like a zombie these days... ever since they shut off the production line back in June it honestly seems like they never turned it back on or recovered. It's the middle of February and I shit you not, we've only received a total of 10 cars ever since they shut it down. Meanwhile, Land Rover is producing vehicles as if there are no issues going on. Sure, the delivery types are sporadic, one month you only get a Defender, Evoque and Disco, and the other months you get a Rover, Rover Sport, and Velar but at least they're pumping out vehicles to where we can keep multiples of each in our inventory and have around 30 cars. With Jaguar, we can't even fucking do that. Our entire inventory right now is a couple of F-PACE's and 5 F-TYPE's... in the middle of a cold snap where there's 4-6 inches of snow on the roads here in Texas.
I know we have a lot of Jag fanatics in here and I hate to be the bearer of bad news but as someone who sees the dealer line on the daily, the brand is fucking dead already and what we're seeing right now is a zombie or on some life support shit. The worst thing is that even before the pandemic they were already looking to be in deep shit... 'rona accelerated them to death exponentially so here we are.
On another note, can y'all believe this shit?
This was taken at 11AM today... even with the sun out, barely anything is melting. Roads are still iced/snowed in and it's still fucking cold as shit... to the point that it might hit 0F tonight. (-17C for y'all metric fanboys lol). This doesn't happen often btw... last time it happened was in 2011 so the state is totally fucked. Rolling blackouts became long-ass power outages coz the power grid is stretched super thin, dumbasses in RWD cars getting stuck on live TV, and it's supposed to snow again on Wednesday ugh lol.
I really should take my GTI out drifting but my all-season tires apparently are total garbage in the snow that they might as well label it summer tires.
How's Texas-SLAENT dealing with this snow and cold blast?

I'd imagine Texas isn't a big Jaguar market like Florida is. But right now, the F-Pace, E-Pace and F-Type are basically the only 3 Jags in full scale production. I-Paces go to FL, NY, and California more. The XE was discontinued in favor of the updated XF and its lower price point. The new XF just started to ship in January, though. The last ones came off the line back in June. The new F-Pace just got facelifted too, and those just started shipping back in December (I drove one 2 weeks ago...amazing interior). E-Pace also got updates and interior changes too.
I'd imagine you'll see a change in the trickle. But yeah, market also has a big influence.
Eeeeee
Not much to see under the "hood", as expected. Just funny to see it only got worse from the previous model.
