The latest automaker brand report cards from Consumer Reports are in, and there are quite a few changes for 2021. At the very top of the charts sits Mazda, up three spots over last year, followed by BMW and Subaru to round out the top three. It's interesting to note that mainstream brands (non-luxury in CR-speak) don't seem to be at a disadvantage in CR's rankings, with five of the top 10 spots. In addition to Mazda in first and Subaru in third, Honda, Toyota, Chrysler, and Buick were the other high-ranking non-luxury marques.Mazda moving on up
I don't have any earthly idea how they fixed it so the DCT and auto stop/start functions are this seamless in this damn Q5. It's mind blowing having this much power all the damn time with 0 weird vibrations and 0 gear shock of any kind. You'd think with that peeny turbo 4 it just wouldn't happen and it'd be a mess but it's the opposite. I'd guess they're using the electric motor as a torque converter of sorts but there's gotta be way more to it than that. Even with the gas engine on at highway speeds it just doesn't feel strained at all.
Compared to the A5 I had before, this thing is way faster and way, way smoother and I'm just kinda speechless about it right now.

Is it the 8-speed transmission? If so, it's a ZF 8HP which is a super standard and fantastic automatic. It's the same transmission as in my F-Type and many others.
Nope, supposedly it's Audi's in house 7DCT, same as they use on the base Q5/A4/A5 but with an electric motor sandwiched in there. Drove an S4 with that trans a while back and yeah, it's a great one.
I need new car mats. Actually I’ve needed them for a long time but just procrastinated and with these constant snow storms in NY I can’t procrastinate any longer. Any good places online and what’s a reasonable price for some weatherproof mats?

Any good places online and what’s a reasonable price for some weatherproof mats?WeatherTech and Husky were the two brands that I was looking at when I bought some for my car. They have exact fit mats for many vehicles and are generally better than factory car mats while staying at a competitive (or cheaper) price.
The prices can vary depending on the kind of mat you need. There are some that protect against the occasional wet shoes or spill and others that are designed to protect against lots of dirt, mud, and water.
e: I ended up with WeatherTech. I think I wanted Husky, but they didn't have an exact fit for my car, iirc.
Holy shit, mad props to Freddy and Jared for pulling this off:
If you haven't kept up with this crazy thing, Freddy bought a wrecked-out 675LT last year to fix it. A year later it's now up and running sans body panels. 😂
Oh yeah the market definitely has a ton of influence, but they really need to step it up. It's hard enough as it is to get customers in a Jag showroom when you've got an Audi and BMW dealer in the same street, but the lack of vehicles in the front line exponentially ups the difficulty level. Not to mention there's still a pandemic going on...
Really tho I just want Jag to succeed and for a muuuuuuuch more selfish reason, the closest break room to my office is in our Jaguar building and it's just fucking depressing to walk in that place every day on the way to the microwave.

By AlphaSnacks Go To PostI'd imagine Texas isn't a big Jaguar market like Florida is. But right now, the F-Pace, E-Pace and F-Type are basically the only 3 Jags in full scale production. I-Paces go to FL, NY, and California more. The XE was discontinued in favor of the updated XF and its lower price point. The new XF just started to ship in January, though. The last ones came off the line back in June. The new F-Pace just got facelifted too, and those just started shipping back in December (I drove one 2 weeks ago…amazing interior). E-Pace also got updates and interior changes too.
I'd imagine you'll see a change in the trickle. But yeah, market also has a big influence.

Can someone tell me the difference between this and a CLS??? And that steering wheel 🤢
Also, a 9-speed automatic is standard -- too many damn gears.
In a recent interview with Evo magazine, Porsche VP of Motorsport and GT cars, Dr. Frank Walliser, says that synthetic fuels, also called eFuels, can reduce the carbon dioxide emissions of existing ICE cars by as much as 85 percent.Holy grail? Holy grail.
Don't know if anyone really cares, but this is an infographic about the Porsche Drivers Council. I can't imagine it is too dissimilar from who actually buys their vehicles in the first place:
Ye, PDC is a more accurate way to gauge the representation of Porsche enthusiasts/fanatics. Especially since this is all voluntary and doesn't really add value to the Porsche ownership experience unless of course, you value giving feedback to the company.
AFAIK, not many people actually sign up to this coz they think it's some kind of scam instead. 😂

Man, I hate touch screen controls on a car but the cars that use then near exclusively look to have more appealing interiors than nearly every attempt I've seen at having a mix of screen and physical controls. Guess it is a harder design problem than I had thought.

Electric-car maker Fisker Inc said it will work with Apple supplier Foxconn to produce more than 250,000 vehicles a year from late 2023. This would be the second upcoming new Fisker vehicle, after the Ocean electric SUV, and would be jointly developed with Foxconn.Happy for Fisker
Fisker’s shares jumped 23.4% to $20.10 in premarket trading on Wednesday.
The deal, codenamed “Project PEAR” (Personal Electric Automotive Revolution), is looking at markets globally including North America, Europe, China and India, Fisker said.

Yes I am a hypocrite because it's an SUV but you'd understand if you drove a car with that engine daily
Assuming that's the same non-SVR V8, that's gonna be amazing already. If it is the SVR V8 tho... lawd help me.
The non-SVR V8 has a 0-60 in 5.2 seconds in the long-wheelbase Rover... putting that in the Defender? That has to be under 5 seconds.
Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng.
Give pls.

Or am I the only one seeing that?
My Q5 55e will take that thing with no launch control and be smoother/quieter doing it 🧐
And it’ll do it 20x before it uses the same amount of gas for one launch
😈
Just playing. That thing is dope although I was always more partial to the Velar and Sport...

Yea but you'll look like a douche driving an Audi and won't have the sweet sweet baritone goodness of the F Type R V8
It's a luxury family hauler. If it isn't a sports car or a truck nobody cares if it has a V8 or not. Besides which, you look like a douche regardless of which luxury car you buy because it's a luxury car and everybody knows it's a flex. You just gotta deal with whatever brand of douche people think you are if you're about that life *shrug

Luckily it wasn't deep. Just have to understand it isn't about you but about them being miserable. Audi's are the most unoffensive safe luxury brand and still get it.
Funny thing is that I actually do not think the Audi would win in a hypothetical drag race. It'd be close to 60MPH, but the Defender would probably walk away thereafter.

Pretty sure it’d win to 30, tie/maybe a smidge faster at 60 and get murdered in the quarter. But it’ll also be quicker 30-50 and quite possibly 50-70 just matting it. Not counting launch control mind you.
They’re definitely sandbagging the acceleration on it, no question. Not sure how much but it blows the doors off the A5 it replaced. It’s not even remotely close.
British magazine Car reported that looming CO2-related fines in the European Union convinced Mercedes-AMG to abruptly replace displacement with electrification. Instead of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, the sportiest member of the C-Class range will land with an evolution of the CLA 45's 2.0-liter turbo four under the hood. It will be equipped with an electrically-assisted turbocharger, and it will work jointly with an electric starter-generator (ISG).
Going hybrid will add about 550 pounds to the C63, still according to Car, pushing its weight above the 4,400-pound mark. For context, the current model weighs around 3,900 pounds, and a 2021 E350 4Matic tips the scale at 3,935 pounds.Fucking travesty.
You know what kills emissions? MAKING A REALLY HEAVY CAR.
Yep, will be fine for their lux SUVs but complete garbage for everything else. As far as I'm concerned, anything over 3500 pounds in a sports car is unacceptable and it really should be closer to 3K instead.
Really need to put together the coin for what's probably the end of the NA V6 Cayman GTS while I still can. Either that or pray the manual Supra becomes a thing.

By reilo Go To PostWhy when the M2 CS exists?
Because used M2s cost the same as a new Supra and the Supra is lighter by a fair bit. Makes it hard to justify the additional cost.
But the new Supra drives worse because its built off a Z4. If you want a driver's car, you go for the M2.
Their curb weight is roughly the same from what I can find.

You're not wrong but it's like 10 grand we're splitting hairs over. There's a good chance I'd drive both and decide on an M2 anyway but I think that's doubtful since the guts are damn near identical. The interior ergonomics are an issue here for sure too - entry/egress and pedal placement, plus that damn Coriolis effect problem the Supra is saddled with might make it a deal breaker.
You have also have to take depreciation into account but that's basically impossible to guess at right now.

Maybe the drivetrains are similar but the chassis is definitely not. The Supra is built on a convertible first converted to a coupe and that matters imo.
But anyway, I'll let this video tell you about it:
A quick search tells me Z4 is more related to the G20 3-Series than the 2-Series
