By reilo Go To Post102k in 6 years?! Fucking hell Texas driving
Yeah man. It's no joke out here. One of the reasons I went with a Honda in the first place, as a secondary car to the BMW (RIP).
It's why leasing has never appealed to me.
*However*
Now that I have this one paid off and permanent in the stable, leasing a performance car, or a car in general, is a lot more attractive to me.
By reilo Go To Post102k in 6 years?! Fucking hell Texas drivingI put on that many in four years in my Civic because of my 40 minute commute. :v
I drive around 50+ miles a day, and that's just commuting back and forth to work.
I'd like to say it sucks but I just got back from a weekend in LA where I literally spent an hour and a half to get to somewhere that was 20 miles away. ๐ฐ

The fuck... how did this get here?
I was sitting in a meeting with a BMW NA marketing rep about this earlier today and the video we were shown said it's highly confidential lol.
Oh lol.
Obviously I can't talk about what I saw, but I have a feeling this is gonna be problematic pretty much for the reasons The Verge mentions.
And If that video ever leaks, I think some of y'all might vomit in horror lol.

By Kidjr Go To PostBMW just havent been the same since they started putting turbos everywhere
You joke but let's just say that a lot of people I work with on BMW's side feel similarly.
Just in the last two months I've heard them complain about the lack of manual transmissions, the lack of an aspirational product, mixed messaging in terms of advertisements(more on that in a bit), and the biggest of all is that there are too many models of the cars that it's actually cannibalizing sales of other BMW cars instead or customers just get too overwhelmed and end up not buying a car.
For that mixed messaging thing, watch this:
If you look at the internal messaging for the 2 Series Gran Coupe, they're positioning this as the entry-level, aspirational BMW to get you in the brand. Marketing materials even refer to it as the "replacement for the 320i" which sold like gangbusters and got a lot of people in the BMW bandwagon. But then you see this ad, nothing about this says any of that whatsoever, it focuses on the Instagram crowd, the "I'm a unique individual and won't be sheep" types of people, yet the car literally was made for the opposite crowd, the families who are looking to get into the luxury brands, the people trying to keep up with the Joneses.
I had the chance to drive the 2GC a week ago and yep, nothing about it screams individuality and all that bullshit. It's a fantastic car even in the base 228i xDrive configuration, but yeah it was as vanilla as you can get for a BMW. As for pricing, the one I drove was $42k and a top of the line M235i xDrive starts at $47k. It's kind of a nice price but I dunno if I'd say that it's aspirational pricing considering that the X1 and X2 are within the same price range(see how they cannibalize each other?).
Obviously, they're still selling cars like mad so BMW can't see the forest beyond the trees. But on the ground level, we're seeing a lot of these issues come up and I'm not exactly sure if BMW will try to fix it.
The fact that the 2-Series GC exists because the 3-Series has become too big is the dumbest shit ever. And I solely blame the American market.
EV wars heating up
The new batteries are unique because of the โlarge-format, pouch-style cells,โ compared to cylindrical cells, which GM says enables them to be stacked vertically or horizontally inside the battery pack. These batteries will offer power ranging from 50 to 200 kWh, which could allow for a driving range up to โ400 miles or more.โ Motors designed in-house will support front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and performance all-wheel drive applications.https://www.theverge.com/2020/3/4/21164513/gm-ev-platform-architecture-battery-ultium-tesla
GM altered the chemistry of its battery cells, in a move thatโs distinct from most EV batteries in production today. The majority of batteries are made with NCM โ nickel, cobalt, and magnesium. The Ultium batteries will add aluminum โ so NCMA โ and reduce the cobalt content by 70 percent. GM has also reduced by about 80 percent the amount of wiring from the EV architecture currently used in its Chevy Bolt vehicles. The hope is that this will drive battery cell costs below the $100/kWh level and allow GM to get more bang for its buck as it scales up its EV production capabilities.
Ultium-powered EVs are designed for Level 2 and DC fast charging, GM says. Most will have 400-volt battery packs and up to 200kW fast-charging capability while the companyโs truck platform will have 800-volt battery packs and 350 kW fast-charging capability. GM says it wants to address the two main pain points of EV ownership: cost and charging time.

Weren't they saying this would be for EVs and internal documentation only? I swear I read that somewhere.
It is shit, regardless though. Awful badging.

Wasnt joking at all, pretty much agree with everything you said. We only really need the 1 3 5 7 and maybe 8
/6 plus SUVs.
Aston Martin Vantage finally going to become a mid-engined car. And actually be worth the money they'll ask for it. Albeit with a six-banger of some sort. But still...my F-Type R is a far better car inside and out than the Vantage. Sounds better too.
I know it was kind of of jarring at first when Tesla revealed the model 3, but grills on electric cars seem silly to me now. Taycan did it right.

Electric cars can still make use of them because it can still be used to help cool the batteries and motor.
e: that BMW grill is hideous
BMW are discontinuing the i8 in April. I love the look of the car but it's 6 or 7 years old at this point so this is hardly a surprise.
By reilo Go To PostThey can't keep a car with such a small grill aroundThey won't be happy until their entire lineup look like heatsinks.
Will you let me have my joke
Although it's very shocking we never saw any model variant of it. I can't even recall if the LCI had any serious changes.

Dropped off the Cayman at the dealership to take a look at a slow tire leak. The rear right tire was leaking air at a rate of about a 0.5 - 1.0 psi every 24 hours. I didn't see any visible damage but I also don't have a car lift so what do I know.
Welp, there was a nail in the tire and it was too close to the sidewall so it has to be replaced. They don't have any in stock, so I will have to wait till next week to get it replaced.
By reilo Go To PostIf you're not on Michelin PS4s yet, do itI will have to ask them.
E: actually, I'm running a little low on money right now so I will wait until I need to replace the other tires before getting the ps4s

I needed to replace both the front tyres on my car and they couldn't shift the nut on the nearside. Basically having to soak it in WD40 and hope it loosens up when i go back in monday. The locknut is fucking horrible. 3 pins, easy to snap off.

I didnโt even know this was based off a Mini Cooper...
So this car is actually a German car with an identity crisis and thinks itโs British but thanks to Brexit itโs accepted itโs German blood and heritage?
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostYeah all FWD BMWs are Mini based. My mom has an X2, but it's a great car.
That makes a lot of sense to platform share, what makes no sense is calling this a 2 series Gran Coupe and making it FWD/AWD lol.
Anyway, when are we getting the video of that Lotus? ๐๐๐

It's live now :)
Took the car back in, bolt wouldn't shift. Looks like it's going to need drilling and a whole new set of bolts. Good times
By Kibner Go To PostThat fucking sucks.
I'm quoted at 20 raheems for 4 new locking bolts and half hour labour so it's not too bad tbh. Probably end up 70-80 all said and done plus 85 that I've already spent on the tyre.
