By Soul of Miyazaki Go To PostYeah, I watched "The Final Cut" version.
Then you should be fine with this one. I liked it a lot, but there are some small... nitpicks, maybe? that left me feeling less than thrilled. It's a visual feast, though. Hopefully Deakins can finally get his Oscar.
By Soul of Miyazaki Go To PostGonna go see the new Blade Runner tomorrow since I've a week off work, and have been meaning to see it. It's suppose to be fantastic right? I know literally nothing about it.Just got my MoviePass and managed to see Blade Runner 2049 last night. It is indeed fantastic, or at least pretty damn good. Probably one of the best sequels I've ever seen, and I would confidently say it's better than the original.
By n8 dogg Go To PostI fucking LOVED Paddington. Complete and utter surprise.
u seen that captain underpants
(u might have recommended it to me, apologies if so)
same category as paddington pour moi; potential brand awareness session turned pleasant chucklefest
have a gander at 'my life as a courgette' (zuccchini in other tongues) if you've got a spare moment; another good un
Awesome! I'll see that tomorrow and put up my thoughts here about it.
Also about Paddington, before that movie came out me and a friend were joking about how great it was going to be and there would be a "Paddington Cinematic Universe". But then I actually went and seen it in cinema, and I'm not joking, that movie is such a feel good film. I'm more excited about seeing the sequel than I've any right to be.

Anyone going all digital? I got a 4K Apple TV and I'm very impressed with their 4K/HDR movies. I have never seen a 4K Blu-ray and I know it's technically better. But this is good enough for me.
posting my letterboxd for the heck of it
https://letterboxd.com/boiler416/
Don't know if I can arrange what my favorite movies are on my profile page, but Stranger Than Paradise followed by After Hours is pretty spot on.
Can't think of any films I'd love this year, but hopefully 2049 will be one.

Bushwick. Yo wtf. I was expecting trash tbh, i mean Brittany Snow and Dave Bautista (who i like kinda), but this was surprisingly well made and well acted. I think it's direct to vod or whatever, but i was quite surprised. It was batshit and had some balls, especially by the end. The concept is so fucking nuts but they kinda played with it in a way where you almost buy it could happen, at least in the world where Clinton got elected, which is what im betting the writers thought was gonna happen as they were making this.
Only real complaint i had was not enough use of the hasidic jews with ak47s. They looked badass fighting the invaders. Lmao.
This thread is dead i don't like it. I watch movies like a mofo we need some movie folk here. I'm watching Columbus right now. It is interesting so far.
I still can't believe that fucking BOOTISTA is having a decent movie career. Like, he's the anti-Rock in the sense that he's not really playing BATISTA ALL THE TIME - his Drax is hilarious and totally different from his BR2049 (and short prequel) character, Sapper Morton.

Seriously if you really like the dude give it a shot. It's actually probably his most actor-centric role to date.

I'm only peaking in here because I have minimal film watching time - but - since I love Batista in films so far as well - I'll give this one a shot.
Thanks!
By Altazor12 Go To PostWill add to my backlog! How long is it?like 1hr 30? Don't expect a masterpiece but i mean, i was surprised by the legit-ness. I now like Dave.

I like him. Drax is fucking great.

Cool! Perfect for killing time on a sunday afternoon, then.

Yeah he looks to be absolutely fantastic in it too
Just watched Atomic Blonde on Vudu, it's gorgeous and has cool music. I still like John Wick more though.

I've mostly gone digital. Still lots of stuff not on any platform where physical is still better.
The streaming quality has really improved and UV codes are cheap. I can get a 4k code off forums for like $6 day of release.

Yeah it was enjoyable. Nothing else to say really.
Columbus. Was pretty good. Was happy to see John Chu and Haley Lu Richardson getting lead roles. Haley was in Edge of Seventeen and Split, John Chu has been in a bunch of shit. Very indie movie. Actually didnt realize but the mother in the movie was Michelle Forbes who was in the Pegasus arc of Battlestar Galactica, which was weird cause i figured it out after watching the movie, knew i recognized her somewhere.

Yeah I liked it a lot; not as heartwarming as Paddington but it was just the right length not to get tiresome. Good level of self awareness and ingenuity.
Watched Kingsman: The Golden Circle last week.
About as middle of the road and average as a film could be I think. Also obnoxiously long, what's with that?
Ragnarok tonight.

What We Do In The Shadows vs Hunt for the Wilderpeople
I personally prefer the latter, perfectly walks the line between being funny, heartfelt and saccharine
Might actually watch Thor because of Waititi, even though the character seems a bit rubbish and I haven't seen the first 2

Just watched Blade Runner (final cut) for the first time. I've seen bits and pieces but never the whole thing. I always thought who and who isn't a replicant would be the center of the film because people debated about Deckard being a replicant but from what I saw that doesn't seem to be the point or even a consideration in the film. I don't care what Scott had to say later. La mort de l'auteur! I thought it was more around making the replicants more human and emotional compared to the actual humans hunting them and if Deckard was a replicant that would kinda ruin that whole deal. That being said I've only watched the movie once so there's plenty I missed. Now I can watch 2049.
Shit if I want to see it at my closest theater it would be tomorrow at 11 AM. Might have waited a bit too long.
Quick edit: I did find the focus on eyes interesting. Everybody's looking at eyes and the replicants are gouging them out. I don't have any thoughts beyond that but I did notice it.

I honestly believe Blade Runner is a movie that benefits greatly from multiple viewings. I liked it but left me kind of "wait, that's it?" on my first time.
Second time I watched it, I fucking loved it.

I didn’t even really like it much my first time seeing it, I even got sleepy. Second viewing everything came together and I recognized how fucking great that movie is. Though TBF I watched the theatrical cut first so I could see the difference upon second viewing, so that probably didn’t help my initial impression at all. Final cut is so much better it puts George Lucas to shame.

I thought the first one was OK for what it was when I saw it; on Netflix in bed while I missed 5-10 minute chunks of it dozing.
Golden Circle was probably the most bored I've been in a cinema since Batman vs Superman.
Death of Stalin was good. Nowhere near as funny as I thought it would be, definitely more of a drama/satire than uproarious TTOI style comedy, but still a fair few big laughs. Excellent performances all round, especially Russell Beale, and a pretty chilling look at how politicians think and act, self-serving fuckers. Props to Iannucci for handling the material well, definitely grown as a visualist too.

I really want to see this
Im watching Atomic Blonde right now. You know for a while i was like 'this movie either alternates between a stylish hollow scene or an intelligent one and can't do both at the same time'. But then like 1 hr 10 min there is that fight/escape scene and good lord is it a good scene. Makes the whole movie all worthwhile.
By n8 dogg Go To PostI fucking LOVED Paddington. Complete and utter surprise.
Same here, as a fan of the books. Thought it would be one of those terrible Hollywood live-action/CG adaptations (the initial trailer focusing on the bathroom scene didn't help at all) but it was shockingly nothing like what it expected. It was actually true to the spirit of the humor and characterization of the books (and maybe the animated stuff, I haven't seen much of those, so IDK). They also handled the addition of a antagonist with the taxidermist villainess Nicole Kidman played really well, which could had been easily botched otherwise. In a genre where you typically get stuff like the Chipmunks, The Smurfs, or that Peter Rabbit film that's coming up; it was amazing to get a film handled by people who actually knew the source material for once. Really hope the sequel turns out just as good, if not better.
By bud Go To Posti hope you lads realize we're getting a new malick film this year.I have tempered my expectations after Song to Song and Knight of Cups but that cast and subject matter is fantastic. Hopefully a tighter narrative focus gets him back on track. Interested to see what it looks like without Lubezki too, I wonder if he'll keep their ruleset in place.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostWhat is the word on Thor?Decent. Definitely the best Thor movie. Funny, doesn't take itself too seriously. A strong 3/5.
Might try and go watch it tonight.
If you like Marvel you'll like it.
Ehrlich summed it up well; it's still a Marvel film, just made by Waititi as opposed to everyone thinking they were getting a Waititi film in the Marvel universe.

Thanks guys, been waiting for it for months. Didn't want it to be a let down like Thor 2 and Winter Soldier.
Yeah The Villainess is great fun! Amazing camera work in some parts toom. I think the motorbike fight is filmed with gopros on selfie sticks.
By Bumhead Go To PostWatched Kingsman: The Golden Circle last week. The more I think about it, the more I think this was actually one of my least favorites this year. Long, bloated, overblown, and totally lacking the heart and character of the first one.
About as middle of the road and average as a film could be I think. Also obnoxiously long, what's with that?
By n8 dogg Go To PostIf you like Marvel you'll like it.Yeah. It would've been better if it had actually been written by Waititi. The three writers have all basically only worked on comic book stuff, including Thor: Dark World.

I think there was probably a fair bit of improvement, but there was only so much Waititi could do.
Thor was decent. Nice that they are starting to give these superheroes a bit more character again. Story was standard stuff but it was funnier than a lot of comedies.
