By Wengward Go To PostWatching the trailer I had just assumed it was Elswit again.
Yup, me too.
By Wengward Go To PostSome beautiful shots in the trailer. Just looked it up and apprently PTA is the cinematographer as well. That's interesting. Nice trailer.
Gorgeous trailer. I had forgotten we are getting a new PTA film this year. Doubt it will play anywhere near me, but maybe I can make a trip to Atlanta and catch it.
By Altazor12 Go To PostAnd here I thought he was going to work with Robert Elswit once again. Apparently all those years of collaboration made PTA learn something, heh š
That's a lot of work to direct and dp. I have nothing but respect for those who try both. But I can see from the trailer that they are taking advantage of natural light, and of course he will have an experienced technical crew with him. Probably a well experienced gaffer doing most of the heavy lifting. I peeked at bts photos and he's still shooting film, so props on that.
I just saw the Phantom Thread trailer. PTA blessing us on Christmas!!!! I can't wait to ignore my kid and family to go watch this alone.
By Smokey Go To PostI have JW2. I actually bought it before JW1. Figured I needed to see the first one, and Best Buy just happened to be having a UHD Bluray sale, and I copped it for $15.Watched it yesterday. Really good movie, loved that it's just as cheesy as the first one. I also like how they focused a bit on developing the world. I mean yeah it's still very simplistic but enough satisfying.

Leaving after dinner to go catch it hopefully.

I just realized I agreed to change days this year and I have the kid on Christmas Eve not on Christmas day. Even better. I don't have to be around the den of psychos that is my family at all on Christmas. Just going to watch Phantom Thread and eat Chinese food.
By spiderz Go To PostIs Hard 8 worth watching? It's the only PTA I haven't seen.fuck yeah

Definitely
That small scene with Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Sydney still cracks me up. What an amazing actor. Yes, it's worth seeing.
About to see The Snowman. (Twitter dare, donāt ask.) hoping itās more of a laughable trainwreck than just straight up painful.
Saw folks were posting their Letterboxd accounts earlier. Here's mine:

Finally watched Spiderman Homecoming
it was good. the humour at times was pretty out there (I liked that), but overall the cinematography looked kind of cheap or was just me? The CGI is much worse than 2002's Spiderman.
Anyway, good cast and the girl playing MJ looks like a strong and fun character for next movie.

I thought the scene in the car with Vulture was tense as fuck. Probably one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

Holy moly, The Snowman is boring. I actually walked out about two hours in, and I NEVER walk out of a movie. Itās just a constant stream of characters and subplots thrown at you. The mystery never builds any kind of tension or suspense, itās just plot on top of plot on top of plot. Editing is weird, too. Some scenes drag way too long, others are Taken 3 levels of quick cuts. When I realized I was two hours in and the movie was just barey hitting the third act, I gave up. Iāve got limited movie watching time, and I just picked up Sicario and Ex Machina on blu-ray the other day. I donāt have time for this shit.
I will say, itāll probably be worth watching Val Kilmerās scenes on youtube just to see that trainwreck. Heās the only one who doesnāt even attempt an accent, and I swear 90% of his lines are ADR.
Also, the main characterās name is Harry Hole. At one point, someone refers to him as āThe Great Harry Hole.ā I admit, I chuckled.

It is timeless
For some reason I watched Jupiter Ascending. Don't watch it.
Netflix, Babysitter. Kinda fun and bad too. Tries a bit too hard, what's with the weapon font, 80s thing? Did like the jocks moment of calm as he advises him on the bully. Very silly deaths and gross.

Ayy whaddup. Would've responded sooner but, y'know, things were going down yesterday.
I've never been someone who who goes crazy for the comic book movies and I avoid most of them but how did we get to the point where Wonder Woman gets universal praise? I saw it on a plane recently and all I knew about it going in was that its "one of the good ones" and yet it couldn't be more middling. How bad are the rest of the Marvel and DC movies that this one is being held up?
I genuinely think the only reason it gets such acclaim is that it's a woman. Its heart is in the right place re: Wonder Woman herself being so optimistic and all that I guess, believing in the good of people etcetera. On a straight up dramatic level it's trash.
Just saw Ragnarok. 5 points to anyone who can guess what I thought of it.

Yeah, as n8 dogg is saying, it's more the context than the movie itself. It's also great that it's directed by a woman. I also think the general public didn't think much of Wonder Woman as a character beforehand, she seemed like an old dated character, but turned out to be a badass. I get what you are saying though, saw Logan and thought the same thing. It's pretty telling when people say it's good for a superhero movie, that bar must be incredibly low.

Quite excited to see the new Paddington film with my boy. But also a bit wary as I know it won't be as good as the first.
Our cinema trips have become a regular thing. It's great and I've seen some really good flicks. But also some trash/middling stuff (I'm looking at you, Cars 3).

I didn't think they'd nail it like they did. I'm usually looking for a weak spot but none really stuck out especially the casting.
Not entirely sure what the release date of the new one is but will look out for previews.

Baby Driver was on sale and cheaper than it's Blu-ray version. Hyped for all 4 movies!

Gonna go see the new Blade Runner tomorrow since I've a week off work, and have been meaning to see it. It's suppose to be fantastic right? I know literally nothing about it.
