Lynne Ramsay is back?!
Amazon needs to stop fucking around and get a release date. It's been 6 years since, "We Need To Talk About Kevin" dropped.

It's going to be first week of December or end of November
I saw November 8 but that had French subs so maybe that was the overseas date.
Anyway, it looks good!

Really enjoyed Logan Lucky. Low stakes slick filmmaking by a director so effortlessly good its like he's on autopilot. Cast are excellent, film is dryly funny throughout, film's edited brilliantly. Don't necessarily buy Tatum was capable of the shit he comes up with, but it was just enough of a self-aware caper it gets away with it.
I liked the movie, too, n8, but with a few days removed with it I have a bit more issue with it now than when I walked out of the theater because I had time to think about it. Mainly...
The last act kind of fell flat. I am not sure what the point of introducing Hilary Swank's character was. It felt like the movie was gonna ratchet up into another gear and have it become a cat-and-mouse game between the FBI and the Logans by introducing a high-profile actor of her caliber, but then they just... ended the movie. It felt so abrupt. The movie was almost exactly 2 hours long, but it felt like Soderbergh had roughly another 20-30mins of story to tell and I wish he had. Tatum's character felt too slick without another foil to challenge him and prove that he has that hidden intellect and I badly wanted the story to go there.

I agree with you, although I think Swank did a really good job with such a small role (and some Macon Blair too fam).
I think it was just so effortless and treated with so little portentousness or seriousness that it's easier to forgive it for some logical flaws at either plot or production level. There's no artificial nonsense treated like melodrama like for instance in GOT, where the silly stuff becomes harder to forgive because its treated with such seriousness. It's just a good time.
No masterpiece but I enjoyed it an awful lot.

By diehard Go To PostYou can't love blade runner then call others boring.I'd argue the same thing about loving Pink Floyd and thinking of Blade Runner as boring.

I think its got some awesome stuff... cinematography is great and Rutger Hauer is fantastic. It's just not enough.
BladeRunner was awesome for its time.
It set the tone for sci-fi movies going forward.
but to be fair it didn't get the same cult following that its receiving now.

The Talented Mr. Ripley is on TV. One of my favourite movies of all time, taught me to love Chet Baker.
Blade Runner is great, but I believe 2049 will go beyond it, with the sheer amount of audio visual storytelling tools Dennis has in his repertoire.
Just seen Donnie Darko for the first time. Interesting film. I can see why people like it, it's certainly a mind-bending film, lol. Btw the 4K restoration from Arrow is so good, highly recommend the Blu-ray if you haven't seen it.

By Freewheelin Go To PostTheatrical. I've read the Director's cut reviewed better, curious to know why you think that?I like the ambiguity of the theatrical, the clues to understand what happened are all there if you are paying attention, the director's cut spells everything out.
Also, I hated the soundtrack changes, mainly removing "The Killing Moon" by Echo & the Bunnymen on the start for "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS (which was Kelly's original choice but he couldn't get the rights at the time).
The Killing Moon is such an amazing song. Can't speak on the INXS one as I can't remember what it sounds like.

Donnie Darko I saw when I was 14/15 and fucking hated it. Will watch it again one day but don't have much desire to.

If I never watched my team win I would probably eat up every low brow form of entertainment too. I totally understand you don't want to think about anything.
I bet the Lakers will win another championship before the Jazz are able to put together 3 wins in the finals.
Saw It Comes At Night (thanks for the heads up, LFM). Enjoyed the tense atmosphere. I always liked Joel Edgerton, deserves bigger roles.
Speaking of Joels, he'd make for a great Joel in a potential The Last Of Us film adaptation.

Get a grip.
Technically Claude-Jean Philippe was Moroccan and he's dead. He also championed French Cinema. So uh, your disproved your own point about critics not liking French films.
