According to the rumor, the Tiger Lake Core i7 9750K will be based on the 10nm+ process and will be based on the LGA 1161 socket which will have 10 more pins than the 1151 socket that the current Coffee Lake series of CPUs are based on. The CPU will have a base clock of 4.5 GHz and will be able to boost to 5 GHz.
AMD done fukd up and woke a giant. Intel had shit just waiting.
Good for us, but glk AMD

By Dark PhaZe Go To Posthow many frames on average are you losing to that stuff kibFrom 60+ down to 30-45, depending on the game for transcoding.
Just watching a twitch stream can drop me 0-10 fps, depending on the game.
e: a bunch of pro streamers have a machine dedicated to only transcoding (or is it encoding? I don't know the difference) because of how much power it can take
If its already compressed its transcoding, if it isn't it's encoding. So you would be encoding.
Always been an MSI mobo guy, think i might try Asus for the z370.

I have this really weird problem where my temps will spike like 10-20 Celsius and i have to shake the pipes on my H110i to fix it. I haaaaaate having to send things back and would probably rather just buy a different one :/

I reformatted my desktop for troubleshooting reasons this week and I forgot how terrible it was to run an unprofiled monitor. Finally got it back up and working again and it looks nice. Redid my other machines, as well, and learned that you have to enable "use Windows display calibration" if you want the gamma settings to apply.
I also found out that Windows can sometimes reset your calibrations after full-screen applications unless you turn off the Windows game bar and Night Light settings. What a pain in the ass.
I'm looking into building a gaming pc, but I don't really know where to start. My budget is going to be somewhere in the range of 1000-1500, and I don't plan on reusing any thing from my old pc. Any suggestions on what parts to get and other useful tips for building a pc would be appreciated!

Use pcpartpicker to get started. It will show you compatible parts.
First place to start is motherboard and what features you want. From there you can start to flesh out everything else.
By Kibner Go To PostAre you planning on doing video editing, photoshop, or other content creation? The monitor is pretty old but it's still 1080p (Viewsonic VA2323wm) so I think I can hold off on that and speakers for a while.

Much more so than games do. It would influence what CPU and motherboard to pick.

overclock performance, number of inputs, onboard wifi, storage options, gpu configurations, etc

motherboard and psu (power supply unit) are the two most important pieces of your build. if either one of them goes because of cheap components or for whatever reason, your machine is done.
i always say to get the best motherboard you can afford. a friend of mine found out the hard way not too long ago. went a bit cheaper on the motherboard, and he tried to OC his ryzen (not even to a ridiculous level), and it blew out on him.
I don't think you need to go that expensive on the motherboard if you don't intend on overclocking. Don't cheap out, obviously.
A great power supply will last you multiple builds, though.

right now only the Z series for coffee lake is out and i don't see much point in not getting a coffee lake CPU if you are going Intel, and if gaming is absolutely the primary concern i would definitely go Intel. Prob be a few weeks before he can get one though...

Great news
Speaking of monitors, I'm looking hard at this one -> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XT6WQCJ/ref=psdc_1292115011_t2_B071Y6SWGT
I really like my 30'' Dell. Great monitor. My only real knock on it is that it's 60hz, but I got it in 2011 so it is what it is. 30'' monitor is really comfortable for me in terms of gaming, browsing, and everything else.
Monitor above would let me keep all of that while getting HDR and 144hz refresh rate. Could hook my consoles up to it too.
I don't see too many reviews for it, so that fact that rtings is getting into this area and how they handle TV reviews, is really a good thing.
Also Kib RGB MICS ARE HERE
By diehard Go To Postrtings is expanding into PC monitor reviews. This is great news.It really is. They do great stuff and make me feel much more informed about my purchase options as well as offer good setting references after the purchase.
e: fucking hell, rgb mics now, too? you don't want that light shit blasting in your face while you are doing stuff. i already want to stick some electrical tape over the status light on my snowball
The audio quality of that mic is fine. Not $200 fine, but still pretty good (I liked the mod mic better for $60). As for the rest of it, woof. Bad design decision after bad design decision.
Why does it have no weight to keep it stable?
Why does something focused on presentation have such poorly placed cable exits?
Why does a mic that costs that much made of just plastic instead of something that can hold up to use?

PC Hardware turns me on, not gonna lie.
For years I was getting by on i5 2320 and 560Ti. It was great for the time, ran PS3 era games at 60FPS/1080p and kept me happy. Decided to upgrade earlier this year. Made some mistakes here and there but overall, been happy with it.
CPU: R5 1600 overclocked to 3.9Ghz
Cooler: CM 212 Hyper Bullshit Marketing Gimmick Name LED TURBO (replaced the fans with CM Masterair series.
MB: ASRock B350M Pro 4
RAM: 16Gb Team Group Vulcan 3000mhz
GPU: EVGA 1080 SC2
PSU: 550w
Case: Thermaltake Core V21
Monitor: 144hz ACER Predator POS with a recurring stuck pixel.
So I said I was pretty happy with it earlier in the post, but I lied. I detest my cooler, PSU and case. PSU, I'm only upset with because it's not modular. After spending so much on the full build, I feel cheap for not paying 20 quid more. The cooler on the otherhand just pissed in my cornflakes when I installed it. The bracket is terrible.
The case, that's a different kind of detest. I have a love/hate relationship with it. Love that it's big enough to fit pretty much anything inside, but also hate that it takes up so much of my desk.
Hate that the front grill clogs up with dust too, and that the PSU is directly under the CPU.
I have vivid dreams of tearing my components out and fitting them inside a Fractal Meshify C or InWin 301.

Especially about the case. I have a pretty regular case, big enough to fit everything I need, but I really fancy those mini-itx cases. But it's so hard to rationally justify one of those, it will be more expensive and with no benefit to performance, it's just about the looks.

Coming out of the Wolfenstein thread, is it me, or are GPUs really expensive lately? Like, just-buy-a-whole-console-or-only-afford-one-fraction-of-a-gpu expensive?
By THErest Go To PostComing out of the Wolfenstein thread, is it me, or are GPUs really expensive lately? Like, just-buy-a-whole-console-or-only-afford-one-fraction-of-a-gpu expensive?Cryptocurrency mining blew the prices way out of whack. That's pretty much why I jumped on a 1080. It was expensive, but the price wasn't inflated so I felt like I was getting a better deal.

It's almost as if these case designers decide on how it'll look before they decide on the features. Kinda like that latest Cooler Master case with two 200mm fans at the front that get completely strangled by the front panel design.
I think if I had to pick a smaller case, that looked good and had good features, I think I'd have to go with a Define Mini C. If Fractal release a Meshify version of that, I'll be all over it like peanut butter on hot toast.

I think my PC is finally starting to inch towards death. The majority of the build is quite old, the CPU is a 2600K and the rest except the GPU is from the same time. The GPU is a 970.
Has there been much talk of new GPUs on the horizon?
Has there been much talk of new GPUs on the horizon?
My PC is a few years old now and I think it's finally time to look at replacing the GPU. Specs:
Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3
i7 4790k (OC to 4.4GHz)
16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 RAM (2133MHz)
MSI Gaming GTX 780 6GB
Corsair RM 750w Gold PSU
Samsung 840 Evo 250GB SSD / Seagate Barracude 7200rpm 3TB storage HDD
Dell U2414H 1080p IPS monitor
(I do have a Sony 4K TV which could technically act as a 4K monitor until as and when I decide to upgrade my actual monitor, but since my current GPU is pretty much incapable of playing games at 4K even at 30fps, I've hardly utilised it for gaming).
Although the motherboard isn't the best, I think the rest of what's there should hopefully last a while, there are upgrade slots available for RAM if needed as well. So I'm looking to just upgrade the GPU unless those specs are saying to everyone "build a new PC". The GPU has been mostly okay with the vast majority of titles so far, although I do have to drop certain settings to medium in FH3 etc. With the Wolfenstein 2 specs requiring a minimum of a GTX 770 4GB though, I feel like my card is potentially on its last legs in terms of high performance at 1080p.
With the monitor situation above, the vast majority of my gaming would still be at 1080p, although I do have the option for 4K. It would also be 60fps as the monitor doesn't have the capability to handle higher frame rates. What I'd like from a new GPU is to be able to play games at 1080p 60fps, at the very least on high (but preferably maxed settings) into the foreseeable future. With the option of 4K it would be nice to be able to have that capability, but if it's going to require Titan level cards, I'd rather buy a cheaper card and use that at 1080p / 1440p for a few years and then upgrade again once 4K is more widespread amongst GPUs.
What would be my best option here? I was hoping to hold out until the 1180 (or whatever it will be called) is announced, but Wolfenstein 2 has me worried the GPU may not last that long unless I seriously dial back graphics settings. Plus, with the 1070Ti releasing in a few days, it doesn't seem like Nvidia is in any rush to release a new architecture.
I was looking at the rumoured specs of the 1070Ti, but it seems to have slightly less of eveything than the standard 1080, so unless it ends up being much cheaper (usual launch pricing from retailers on past cards has me worried it won't be), I don't see the benefit over the 1080. So why not get a 1080? My issue there is the card has been out a while (in the world of GPUs, anyway), and I'd feel like I'm not getting the "full lifespan" out of my purchase because I didn't buy immediately at launch, so it will have less effective time before it needs replacing.
That leads to the age old PC parts problem of if I keep waiting, I'll never buy anything. So I don't know what to do! Ideally I'd want at least a few years out of the card, I don't want to upgrade every year or two if I can help it. This card has lasted me over 3 years, I'd be happy with that again from its replacement. I'm looking to spend no more than GTX 1080 prices so around £500, although obviously if there are cheaper GPUs that would meet my requirements, then that's even better.
Any advice would be appreciated!
tl;dr: I need a new GPU to play games at 1080p/60fps max settings, ideally for 3+ years and if possible with the capability for 4K gaming in the future. Not sure if I should buy now or wait for new GPUs. Budget wise I'd like to stay below £500 if possible. Ideas welcome.

Since it doesn't look like you're ready to fully upgrade, nor do you really need to with those specs (4790k is very much still a capable processor for gaming), I'd say 1080 GTX is your best bet, if you can get it for decent money. If you can find a used one for 100€/£ less somewhere, even better.
It might be a bit overkill for 1080p/60fps right now, but it will keep you playing at very high/ultra for at least another couple of years. After which time you'll likely want to completely revamp your PC. And you'll probably be able to recup a good chunk of cash from selling the 1080 + 4790k.
I wouldn't factor 4K gaming into all this. 1080 GTX won't get you there, unless you're happy with ~30fps in select titles. If you're really adamant about that, I'd stick with your current card for a while longer and then upgrade to whatever the next Nvidia top tier card will in 3-6 months.
P.S.: In case you're wondering, the 1080 gtx is perfect for ultrawide 1440p gaming. I know because I have one + one such monitor.

It's a valid thought. I've used AIO kits in various builds since I started building back in 2011. Never had an issue. I used Corsair AIO products until I switched to my current cooler, the Kraken x62. Great cooler and in my opinion, aesthetically the best looking AIO out. I wouldn't be too afraid about leaking. These are closed, and if it does happen, the AIO manufacture will be on the hook for any repairs.
Paul: If 1080/60 for multiple years is your primary concern, I'd look at a 1070 minimum, maybe even the 1070 Ti. GPUs hold their value for the most part, so you an always sell it later and put that towards the cost of a new GPU when you're ready to really get into 4k.
The 1080Ti is really strong and does a really good job at 4k. It's a great step, but Volta iteration of the x80 series is probably when we'll officially get to a full blown 4k GPU.
I'm particular about my cases so I usually start my research with the recommendations on this page: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article75-page5.html
As for the guy looking to have a computer that does 1080p/60fps for three years, the 1080 is probably what you want. I'm not sure how the 1070ti stacks up to it, but the 1080 or 1080ti are probably going to be necessary.
I wouldn't bother about upgrading from that CPU for a while, yet. It won't really result in fps increases for you.
As for 4k gaming, well, nothing is really ready to do that at 60fps right now. IIRC, an SLI setup of 1080ti's does respectable but still not ideal. And also way, way, way out of your budget.

This needs to be clarified. You can get 60fps at 4k now, HOWEVER, in most cases you'll probably have to dial back a few settings. If you are willing to do that, a 1080Ti is perfectly fine at 4k.
By FreezerGeezer Go To PostI think my PC is finally starting to inch towards death. The majority of the build is quite old, the CPU is a 2600K and the rest except the GPU is from the same time. The GPU is a 970.
Has there been much talk of new GPUs on the horizon?
Honestly, the 2600K should still be pretty good unless you've got some dying/aging components. If your board still has life in it, up your RAM to 16Gb if you've got less than that, and consider a 1070 or 1070Ti when that drops.
Any higher than a 1070 would be a bit of a waste in terms of frames, simply because you'd get a lot less out of a 1080/Ti with a 2600K. A 1070 matches it nicely, but if the 1070Ti turns out to be around the same price of a regular 1070 then there's no point in not getting the Ti version.
As for new GPUs, outside of the aforementioned 1070Ti. Nothing has really been annouced, doubt we'll see the 11XX series of Nvidia cards till mid next year.
Hi all, what would be a good upgrade from a i5-4570? I’m also rocking a 1070 and I mostly game at 1440p.

By Smokey Go To PostIt's about that time to move on from a 2600k, tbh. It's definitely borderline...
