Gotcha. I don't have experience with them at that scale. Just mine and the one I got my mom a couple years ago. She hasn't had any issues with her 3 Pro, either, though she is a pretty casual user.
yeah i keep hearing people love theirs and don't have any problems and i keep thinking .. how? I'm the purchasing.. "decider"? so we just flat out started telling people no when they asked for them.
My Freestyle Edge keyboard will be part of the last first edition shipments. :(
They shipped the blue first, working on the browns now, and send the reds out last. The last shipments will be sent out on the 22nd.

Sounds like a GPU thing, not CPU.
I am also skeptical of gains by upgrading my CPU.

Not true. 2600k is pretty old especially if you're trying to hit 100+ fps.

Due to crypto currency, his 1080ti is within $100 of the 1070.

Anyone want an amp that can drive any headphone (and destroy 99% of them if you aren't careful)? Can also power most bookshelf stereo speakers and features a volume knob with no indicator!
Seriously, though, it's a fantastic sounding amp for headphones or stereo speakers but the lack of that knob can make it dangerous if you aren't careful.
I actually own one for my speakers and love them. A buddy of mine just got the next step up in power version (that doesn't have a headphone jack) for his speakers and fell in love with them, too. Very affordable, as far as hifi amps, go.

I still need to actually game with the Freestyle Edge keyboard but I can safely say that I don't care for general typing on Cherry Red switches. Browns are much better for that.
The amount of customization you can do without digging into an app is great. Whatever you can do in the GUI app, you can do via normal keyboard commands. It supports up to 9 different layouts, which can each have up to 24 different macros each. Macros can be played back at 10 different speeds and the lighting can be set to 9 different intensities or turned off. In fact, there is a key dedicated to turning the lights on/off. There is also a fade in/out option for the lighting.
It can disable the Windows key, if you would like, and can also enable/disable NKRO, though I don't really know why you would ever want it turned off. It also has some basic multimedia keys accessible via FN+<button>.
Supposedly no ghosting and I wasn't able to induce any by typing "ice" really fast repeatedly, so that's good. That has only ever been a problem on one or two other keyboards I've tried, though.
Build quality seems to be good, so far. The braided cables are pretty darn thick so I'm not worried about them getting messed up. There is no flex in the keyboard, even when typing hard and it stays rock solid on my table without moving, despite being split.
I still need to game with it to give it a full evaluation and also order the lift kit to see how I like that. If I like these red switches for gaming, I'll be really happy.
I want to buy a new desk so I can take full advantage. My current setup is very unique and makes it difficult to use. Not many people switch between two keyboards every day. :( Maybe I'll just get a USB hub and I can plug/unplug them as needed instead of simply switching to the other one. I dunno, something to think about.

Bought a MacBook Pro the other day (2017, 256gb, 16gb RAM, 13in) and damn this thing is an absolute monster of a machine, good lord.
Aight, I played a couple rounds of Overwatch and Quake Champions and can confirm that non-tactile switches are really good for gaming. It lets you make adjustments quicker since you don't need to let the key go back up past the normal actuation point.
Still absolutely terrible for typing, though, since your mind/body kind of thrives off having the tactile and/or audio feedback to avoid typos.

So NCIX is closing down? I've been kinda down on most of the PC / tech YT channels I follow lately, but I'll be sad to see Keys and the rest of the crew gone. I wish they could keep the channel & subs, rebrand it, but I guess that's too much to hope for. Corporations and all that. I can't imagine how much it must suck to lose a 1mil+ YT channel you basically built from scratch.
The finale was hard to watch, damn. RIP Netlinked Daily.

Intel's new Coffee Lake-S represents the biggest generational leap we've seen since the classic Sandy Bridge second-gen Core line, launched way back in 2011. The Core i5 2500K and i7 2600K were the stuff of legend - processors so good, many still use them today, convinced that Intel's iterative approach to CPU upgrades didn't justify replacing a solid platform. Coffee Lake-S has much in common with those classic processors
Looks great for gaming
As a result, the Core i7 8700K is a winner for several reasons. First of all, it takes the existing Kaby Lake/Skylake architecture and refines it, so the single-thread power that works so well for the mainstream line in gaming is fully retained here.
And secondly, that refined process doesn't just allow for improved single-core turbo boost - it also paves the way to the first solid 5.0GHz-stable overclock we've achieved on Intel hardware. And that's all on top of those additional cores, which scale just as they should in heavily threaded workloads and prove far more potent in gaming than the six and eight-core i7 7800X and 7820X.
Intel's own gaming benchmark notes a 25 per cent uplift over the 7700K in Gears of War 4 frame-rates - and we can produce similar results in several titles. However, fundamentally, buying a fast CPU is all about overhead: in Crysis 3 we noted areas where the i7 8700K offers an in the moment performance boost of 50 per cent over its quad-core predecessor. While there's a good argument that the 8700K may be too powerful for most users, games are only going to become more complex in future (especially when consoles move to Ryzen). In the here and now, users of high frequency displays will appreciate the big bump in performance. Key titles like Destiny 2 and Battlefield 1 should play beautifully on this new i7.

About that Time
I am currently using a 3770K so I'm glad to see it used in comparison. Looks like it is almost time for me to replace it. I might sit out one more gen just so things can stabilize because Intel is moving too quick between platforms for my taste right now.

whew
I also may go with a Ryzen (or wait for even more cores i7) so that I can do software encoding for streaming without taking a substantial hit to my fps.

Phaaazeeeeee
For now, the Core i7-8700K is the most well-rounded CPU available. With virtually no weaknesses, it's among the easiest TR Editor's Choice picks I've ever made. If you've been sitting on an upgrade from Sandy or Ivy for the past few years, grab your hammer and piggy bank and wait for our next System Guide. It's time.

at this point i'm more interested in 2.0 hardware for VR than traditional tech upgrade
these games are too ho hum to upgrade for right now imo, super boosted VR experience is kind of the fresh experience I'm looking for atm

I'll probably upgrade because i need it.
That's what i'll try to tell myself when i upgrade only because it sounds fun.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postim still on dat 3570k–fuck it still running what I want at 4k 30 high/ultraLike I said before, still running on a 3770K, myself. There are very few games where it looks like I will get a fps increase with a new CPU (Forza Horizons 3 appears to be one), but the main selling point for me is to have other things going on without getting a fps drop while gaming. Like watching someone's stream or transcoding one of my own.

Still, I think I'm gonna wait until I can get an 8 core off the same tech.
