There’s apparently a quirk with it... the UI runs at 60Hz but there’s some things you gotta do to make sure the movies run at 24Hz:
I’d do some research and/or avoid.
One of my biggest issues with the new Apple TV 4K is that it doesn’t automatically switch the mode your TV is in to match the content. It’s one of the biggest and longest-standing issues in the living room: you want to run the TV display at a refresh rate of 24Hz when you watch 24fps movies, but animating a user interface at 24Hz looks like garbage. Apple and others deal with this issue by running everything at 60Hz, but that creates visual issues for 24fps movies — kind of silly because you buy all this stuff to watch movies, not menu animations. There are endless forum threads about adjusting TV settings to handle the motion problems that come with playing 24fps video at 60Hz.https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/25/16359798/apple-television-justification
I’d do some research and/or avoid.
Well damn. It really seems like a great all in one 4k streaming box, especially with them pricing 4k movies same as he counterparts. It has the Apple tax, but id be willing to look pass that if it was good.
By Lupercal Go To PostShe's thinking about buying an Xbox X for Forza and then my pc (can't do 4k but I do have a 1070 so 1440p should be easily doable)That Iiyama has 24 ms of input lag which is not good for a gaming computer monitor (but good for a gaming console TV).
Was thinking either a SAMSUNG UE49MU6200, decent 4K model and curved. Was very surpised about the quality about my big 4K Samsung so I'm gravitating towards this as a TV.
Or a IIYAMA PROLITE X4071UHSU-B1, always use iiyama monitors for my pc aswell, great response time, good colors etc..
Sure it doesn't do 144hz and stuff but the XBOX X won't push above 60 fps anyway and my pc will be about the same at higher resolutions.
About 600€ budget for the tv/monitor.
I can't find for certain what the input lag of the MU6200 is. I also can't find it in a size smaller than 49 inches on Samsung's site. Are you sure that's the right model?
By Kibner Go To PostThat Iiyama has 24 ms of input lag which is not good for a gaming computer monitor (but good for a gaming console TV).It's the NL version, if I look on a BE site I find the same model as UE40KU6000 SAMSUNG.

The Iiyama has better and more accurate colors but games probably won't recognize it as HDR capable. It's going to be a choice of tradeoffs.
By Kibner Go To PostGotcha, thanks! This is the only source I could find for input lag on that TV and it is also at 24 ms. So, same delay for both.Yeah but the TV probably doesn't have HDR anyway as I see it and the monitor might be more usefull than another TV.

I might do some more digging around for a better monitor. I was thinking UltraWide but XBOX probably doesn't support it.
I am streaming a ultra hd hdr show from netflix right now. I chose 'Chef's Table'. Wanted to see how HDR looked in a more subtle way versus Planet Earth II. I am streaming on the 5ghz band. No hiccups or buffering. Picture looks great. The HDR is really neat here. There's different gradients of white which is what I was looking for. Chef's apron, dressing on the table, plates, food colors. Then you have the sunlight and outdoor scenes. Night scenes pop with the black sky and street lighting. It all looks really good.
If it wasn't for data caps, I'd say this would be the way forward. You can easily tell the high quality of the stream and combined with the HDR it's just a fantastic picture. Unfortunately, caps DO exist. Fuck Comcast.

I do have the dim HDR Game Mode. Playing Madden it's really obvious. Flipped back and forth between it and HDR Standard.
What is LG thinking jfc. It's noticeably darker, and they think it looks better. Gonna have to see if I can adjust to the higher input lag outside of HDR Game Mode, because the PQ hit is definitely noticeable.

Most sets, when calibrated to movie standards, are dimmer than what people are used to. Of course, they are also expected to be played in pitch black rooms.
Nah this...takes the advantages of HDR and almost mutes it compared to HDR Standard. And it's only in HDR Game Mode. I could maybe understand it if it was flipped around and Game Mode was the brighter setting, but this is too much.
Finding 4k content on Amazon isn't nearly as categorized as Netflix.
Watching Ep1 of Grand Tour for first time. It's HDR as well. Looks amazing. Fuking hell this HDR Game Mode dimness could be the decider.

Signed up for Vudu. UHD and Dolby Vision are included in their titles. Gonna put it to the test tonight. My router has held more than I expected when streaming 4k content. I was streaming Grand Tour and my wife was watching something on her phone, and there were no hitches or buffering for me.
The Vietnam War was pretty great.
Great to get a perspective from so many sides and hearing some of those tapes.
It's freaking incredible how often the chance for a rather peaceful solution existed and people decided against it or manipulated everything.
Sad scenes all around. The war, the aftermath and what actually lead to it.

By diehard Go To PostDoes it cover many tactical war decisions or is it just the politics of it?It gives a good overview about the tactics by North Vietnam or the failed US tactics, but in general it's more of a overview over the whole war.
The history, politics, decisions and everything that lead to it, how everything happened and what it meant, for the people and the countries involved. Really great material and some stunning visuals.
AND FUCK, that was supposed to get into the TV topic, not the TV sets topic...
Watched our first, full UHD movie on the screen tonight. Complete with popcorn. Borrowed sound bar from my bro in law just to see how much it would help. Was legit af. I found some settings to use with HDR Game Mode over at AVSForums that supposedly make it a lot better/brighter. Going to try that tomorrow.
A dope sound bar is all I'm really missing. Would love to get a Dolby Atmos one but they running like $1,000+. Can't express enough how much of a difference the 65'' screen makes combined with what comes along with OLED. Thought it might be too big, nope. Would be cool with just waiting for shit to hit Vudu and renting the UHD film for $4 or whatever vs going to the theater.

I might have to. The PQ is (arguably) the best you can get right now. That's a wrap. I need to really step up the audio side. Even this basic ass soundbar added so much over those tiny TV speakers.

I get some basic ass soundbar atm but if I were to buy a new one, I'd go with the Samsung HW-MS650.
Looks to be legit.
By reilo Go To PostWhat's wrong with it?The HDR mode when Game Mode is enabled is a different (re: dimmer) HDR mode than when Game Mode is disabled.
By reilo Go To PostWhat's wrong with it?
The TV is incredible for movies and media in general. And games to a lesser extent due to the HDR Game Mode being way dimmer than standard HDR. you could play in standard, but then you have to deal with the added input lag. Basically have to pick and choose, and LG seems to think the dimmer HDR Game Mode produces a better picture and just about anybody with a functional pair of eyes vehemently disagrees. Leaves me to believe they dimmed it for burn in/image retention purposes , but of course theyd never say that. Especially when the mode was completely fine before they nuked it with a firmware upgrade.
I spoke to someone who bought from a very reputable online dealer over AVS. I called him and he quoted me these prices. Mine is currently the 2016 B6 model:
OLED 65"
B7 2550
C7 2400
The 2017 models are a bit brighter and have some other enchancements , and haven't been effected by the firmware BS most likely because LG is holding or adjusting due to the blowback from the 2016 models.
Sony 65"
x930 2500
Z9D 3300
Go check Best Buy and you'll see that these really undercut Best Buys prices by hundreds of dollars. This retailer is very reputable. I've known about them since the plasma days.
Thing is the huge plus about my set is the price I got it for. If I get the above I may as well hop back on the #2018 train. And if I return it I'm going to be dead going back to this god awful 2011 Samsung.
TBH, after the crazy amount of research you've gone through, $2500 sounds about right what you are looking for.
I'm trying to be greedy tbh. The set is pretty much perfect to me except for this one issue, and the fact that it was fine before firmware fukkery bugs me. It's almost a perfect storm of perfect IQ, size, tech, and price. If I'm gonna do $2500 I might as well wait and see what improvements they have for 2018. My entertainment enjoyment is going to DIE if I go back ;__;
They've advanced the IQ each year, namely the brightness and input lag. And I'm trying to be greedy due to the above and what I paid for it lol.

I thought you found a way to rollback to older firmware? Why not do that? Or is there something in the newer firmware you really want.
By reilo Go To PostI thought you found a way to rollback to older firmware? Why not do that? Or is there something in the newer firmware you really want.
I haven't found where I can get those older firmware files. I'd like to obviously try it before my return period ends next week.

Think I'm going to keep the B6 65". Got a great price on it, and my I've gotten the HDR Game Mode to look identical to HDR Standard. It's not as bright as HDR Bright, but it's better than default. Someone on GAF pointed me to a 3 year warranty for $90. Gonna look into that and probably go with it barring any gotchas. Found some directions to downgrade firmware of I really want to do it.
Also my eyes have already adjusted and now I want a 75"
My next steps will be a really nice sound bar. Looking at this Sony Dolby Atmos bar
https://www.sony.com/electronics/sound-bars/ht-st5000
Has 3 HDMI inputs on it for pass through. Expensive, but I heard it in a closed environment and the Atmos effect was good. At least as good as you can get from a bar.

If the Atmos isn't important for you, you can get better sound with stereo speakers, amp, subwoofer, and quality DAC for the same money.
e: other downsides, in addition to no Atmos, is taking up more room and uses more power
e2: their website sucks for giving speaker specs.
That's all I get for the subwoofer. lol

Subwoofer
SUBWOOFER TYPE
Wireless speaker

Thinking about it some more, if you don't enjoy tweaking and messing around with everything to get the best sound you can, stick with that soundbar.
I paid $70 for my Polk bookshelf speakers and $100 for my DAC on Massdrop and that combo sounds great. The DAC also supports a subwoofer if you want to get extra out of it.
$1500 for a soundbar and subwoofer is pretty insane. I can spec you out standing tower speakers and a 7.1 surround system with a top of the line amp for under $1k.

I'm still kinda-but-not-really annoyed at myself for getting a too-powerful subwoofer. It's not a big deal since it is appropriately calibrated and mixed with the rest of the system now, but could have saved myself $300 bucks. =/

Eh. I like the compact nature of the bar and it's aesthetics. I know that I could get a bit better performance by breaking things out tho.

It's def expensive and theres some Sony tax in there. But as mentioned above, I like the compact nature of it. And with my son running around the less shit he can poke at and mess with the better.
I'm not in a huge rush to get it and will probably see what CES has to offer.
I don't think you can call all sound bar equal tho. Like the Sony vs some Insignia trash for $150.
But I hear you

By reilo Go To PostAtmos??? Oh fuck lol nah. You’re asking for the impossible. Tower speakers alone are $1k… EACHYou could just get a center Atmos channel, I think? Then it would be a 7.1.1 system. That may be doable. Possibly.
Mmm maybe if a good deal or two comes through:
$599 https://www.crutchfield.com/p_714R26FA/Klipsch-Reference-R-26FA.html?tp=66302
$399 (pair) https://www.crutchfield.com/p_714R14SA/Klipsch-Reference-R-14SA.html?tp=66302
$349 subwoofer https://www.bestbuy.com/site/klipsch-reference-10-300w-powered-subwoofer-black/6345006.p
That leaves you with needing an Atmos-capable amp and center channel. It might be doable in a year but probably not today.

There's only 2 atmos' bars out right now, this Sony and a Samsung (fuck Samsung), and the Sony seems to offer more.
So with the above, you're right back to the ball park of the Sony Atmos bar + sub. Here's a pretty detailed breakdown of it
Guy mentions in the video he considers it more of a Home Theater bar, than just a "sound" bar. The Atmos effect sounds pretty legit, and I heard it in a closed environment (it has 2 speakers up top pointed towards the ceiling).
Kibner watch some of it if you have the time, curious to your thoughts.
Smokey, if you can get that sound bar sans sub and then pair it up with one of these sealed, rear-ported, or front-ported subs that would be pretty good.
