By Tea Go To PostRealistic solution? Um no.
Okay then, effective
How is it effective? How would it work? The whole reason people move is economic opportunity. What economic opportunities lie out there? And lo and behold that's really the problem in a nutshell.
Poor education. Poor economic prospects. Job market narrowing. Heroin or meth epidemics. These people don't see a future so they want to reclaim a past.

Anyone else gonna have awkward thanksgivings? My immediate family are all democrats but that's not the case with all the uncles and aunts and such. We usually do a good job of not bringing politics up but I'm wondering if this year shit hits the fan considering a portion of my family voted for a pseudo fascist.
Anybody in my house with anything nice to say about President Fuckface is getting punched in the mouth.
I don't have to deal with that thank god. Parents no longer humored that shit after one set of grandparents died. Just small holidays free of drama growing up. I read about other people's stuff and I'm like "phew." Wouldn't humor it now either. I just can't earnestly be around people rationalizing the worst shit. Mom got to have awkward thanksgivings after Nixon, Reagan, Bush. Find the old leftie in the group and have them calm you down with stories of the volatile 60s.

These people aren't more economically disadvantaged than Clinton supporters. Study after study after study shows that. No one forced them to spend 8 years mainlining Rush Limbaugh and Fox News instead of getting a college education, developing marketable skills or learning to run an online business. They fucked up. This was ill-informed, racist, uneducated, people.
Economic opportunities exist plenty - we're not talking about North Dakota, we're talking about Miami and Philly and Detroit and Cleveland and Milwaukee. Sure, there are some jobs that require you to be in LA or NY, but most careers have opportunities in those other cities and surrounding suburban areas as well.
Huh, didn't realize I lived in the most educated county in the country. My bachelors degree now feels inadequate

This whole interview is ass crazy.

The right leaning folks in my family vote more like it's a sports team. They don't pay attention to policy or details. They listen to FOX news talking points and have a touch of "fuck you I got mine" combined with a dash of "I can't vote for dems cause they kill babies."
My uncle recently told me about a comic that made him laugh regarding the economy when Romney ran for POTUS. It was a train that symbolized the economy and Romney was hoping the train would slow while Obama was hoping it would speed up. This recollection was in an effort to downplay Obama's roll in the economical gains since bush and kinda portray the economy in a cyclical fashion that presidents sort of just ride. I asked my uncle what he thought got the train going? Magic cyclical fairy dust or the ARRA?

Isn't Alrington home to most of politicians working out DC, home to the Pentagon, and George Mason/Virginia Tech?

This is a good write-up on manufacturing jobs within the context of Trump's appeal to voters promising to bring back jobs lost due to trade agreements, and why it has nothing to do with NAFTA nor automation, but rather the fact that we've just become more efficient workers that work more: http://www.versobooks.com/blogs/2961-it-s-not-about-nafta
Why hire two people to do a job if one person is willing to bury themselves doing it for half the salary of two people?

He won't bring back the jobs, so the question remains how bad does it have to get before we fall back on socialism to keep people from starving. Then just repeat the cycle of unfettered capitalism that brings us to the brink again.
Judges Find Wisconsin Redistricting Unfairly Favored Republicans
A panel of three federal judges said on Monday that the Wisconsin Legislature’s 2011 redrawing of State Assembly districts to favor Republicans was an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander, the first such ruling in three decades of pitched legal battles over the issue.http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/21/us/wisconsin-redistricting-found-to-unfairly-favor-republicans.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur&_r=0
Federal courts have struck down gerrymanders on racial grounds, but not on grounds that they unfairly give advantage to a political party — the more common form of gerrymandering. The case could now go directly to the Supreme Court, where its fate may rest with a single justice, Anthony M. Kennedy, who has expressed a willingness to strike down partisan gerrymanders but has yet to accept a rationale for it.

Educated ppl move which is why it would be effective. Uneducated ppl stay doing what their fathers did. Some of these communities could use new blood for fresh ideas. Man if Hyundai can build a plant in central Alabama, I don't see why something like that couldn't happen in Nebraska.
Anyway I'd love to hear your solution to Redneck Rampage
Man if Hyundai can build a plant in central Alabama, I don't see why something like that couldn't happen in Nebraska.Because it's not about having a plant. We're in an age of high worker efficiency (see my post a few above yours) and automation. Those get-your-hands-greasy jobs aren't really coming back. We need to find ways to lessen our work week where it isn't the expected norm to be doing the job of two people or work 60 hours on average.
Those jobs aren't coming back. I'm of the opinion it will probably just have to get really bad again, like depression era bad before people might wake up to New Deal type socialism and instead of "welfare", Universal Basic Income. Even in dem/lefty circles you have people so beholden to the concept of working to make a living despite the ever narrowing job market and eventual automation for the rest, so good luck with this discussion despite the inevitable reality.
The conspiracy theory that the voting machines were hacked is bad.
If Russia or someone else tried, Obama's people would have found it out.

I agree with all of this.
Krugman won a Nobel Prize and he's hyping up a story where investigators went "reg y myass no_controls, oh wow, look, p<.05 !!!!" come the fuck on, Paul.

Just when Benny Carson explicitly rules himself out as incompetent, they formally offer him the job 😂😂😩

"Get your head out of your ass"
"The solution is a depression level event so that people will finally accept far left policies".
What?
By 3SidedPolygons Go To Post"Get your head out of your ass"There's no other realistic way that hard socialism becomes a thing.

Look at the democrats we have now - they're not interested in something like universal basic income. All this stuff about Trump is really taking the focus off of how shit the democrats have been and have immediately shown to be as well.
The democrats are the second most favored political party of the World's elite and powerful. And as of 3 weeks ago, definitely the most.
There's a solid difference between what I'd ideally like to see happen and what the reality of any given situation will dictate.
In this instance I have no fucking naive notions of people just accepting what's long been vilified without it being some sort of desperation move on their part. If you think a good plethora of Americans, and not just conservatives, have been bred in any other way than to just accept the ills of capitalism and irrationally hate on socialism, well I don't know what to tell you.

By IWMTB19 Go To PostIf a popular Democratic president is assassinated before an election, the party would probably get enough congressional seats to massively expand the welfare state......
… But that would be horrible to hope for also…
Let's try to defeat institutional racism and sexism before we call for socialist revolution, shall we?

I'm not sure it does. The models of socialism that quote unquote "works" are lifted from countries that just don't carry the cultural and historical baggage of the United States.

reparations would be a good start i think.
They're very homogenous countries, and small countries at that. The mandate for income equality is easier given that their culture isn't built on top of a 'dream' that puts money in the pocket at any expense, even to the disadvantage of your neighbor.
