was about to pull the trigger on the LG 34uc88-b,
but I read on reddit that this model is known to cause burn-ins when brightness is set to 100.
gonna go wit the Dell U3415W instead.

you'll find small quirks like that on basically any monitor (like the Dell having worse backlight bleed and coil whine)
Lads, I feel like I'm at yet another crossroad with my PC. I need want to go smaller. I downsized from an mATX build in the Core V21 down to a mITX build in the Cougar QBX (picture for reference)
I thought I was happy, y'know? Thought it was small enough and looked nice with the RGB motherboard in there and 5 RGB strips, but I feel I need to shrink it down further. I'm considering either an NCase or a DAN case. Possibly a Louqe S1 or Kolink Rocket in place of the latter.
I was tempted by the InWin A1, but I'm certain I want to go smaller and not get a case of similar volume. The Streacom DA2 also caught my eye as i really like the design they're going for with it, however it's barely smaller than the QBX (although it does look really good).
The DAN case to me is aesthetically perfect, however I feel the the lack of CPU cooler clearance completely hampers it. I have a R5 1600, and my current overclock on it is by no means extreme (3.85Ghz/1.26v) but I don't particularly want to sacrifice performance to keep it running cool in such a limited case. Also with it being on the AM4 socket, there's not much in the way of low profile CPU coolers available for it that'll handle 100ishTDP CPUs.
The Louqe S1 and Kolink Rocket somewhat alleviate that issue with their slightly larger clearance for CPU heatsinks however, there's still the issue with the AM4 socket and lack of good coolers.
That's where the NCase comes into the mix. It's still a tiny case however the 130mm clearance for a CPU heatsink makes it much more ideal. There's also the option for a tempered glass side panel to show off all my RGBallin' hardware.
Another bonus would be that I can pretty much transplant my current parts right over to the NCase.
With all that said, basically I just want somebody to validate my decision to needlessly downsize to an NCase. I mean, just look at it.

I hope that front panel has a cover for the ports at the bottom because otherwise, it's pretty nice looking. The angled edges of the front panel are a good touch. My TV speakers do the same thing and it helps to make them look smaller than they actually are.

I don't believe it does, however there's probably somebody 3D printing covers for them and flogging them on Etsy. Doesn't look too obvious in some pictures either.
By Smokey Go To Postkibner have you received a new gpu yetThey sent me an email today saying they received my GPU. Still have to wait for them to inspect, repair/replace/reject, and hopefully send me a working one back.
Finally upgraded from a gtx 780 Ti to a gtx 1070 Ti today

Putting more thought into the DAN case. With a Cryorig C7 Cu and a Noctua fan ghetto'd to it, it might just be perfect. I've got a few Noctua fans already that could all work but I'm thinking of using one of my slim 120mm. It'll still be the same height, but should theoretically give better temps and allow for more airflow over the motherboard area.

If my case ever breaks down, I dread looking for a new one.
By diehard Go To PostThere's actually some really excellent cases now though. Even sub $75 ones aren't total trash.Yeah, I just need to have a case that is super quiet while still providing good airflow. And those are a pain in the butt to research and find which is the best deal.

Put the order it earlier. Gonna be an interesting build for me since it's such a compact case, but I hope I'll be happy with it and stick with the case long term. It's not like i can really go any smaller unless I go with an APU build (never). Also decided to go for the Noctua L9a over the Cryorig C7. The latter fits but it's so close to the side panel that it causes some noise issues, as well just generally having a loud fan on it.
With the L9a, I should be able to either put a thicker 92mm fan on it, or use one of my soon to be spare 15mm thick 120mm fans and get some good overall airflow into the case.
By Laboured Go To PostLooks like we'll be getting the new Nvidia GPU announcements by 20 August.
you gotta throw a link m8
DAN case and Noctua L9a both got dispatched today. Realised after the order that the L9a listed on Overclockers doesn’t come with an AM4 bracket, had to order one separately from Amazon. Shite that.
I think my Logitech speakers that are years old finally went out. RIP. Suggestions on replacements? I do have a sound card (Asus Xonar DGX), fyi.

Even I’m tempted by them. Really happy with my G533 headset and not at all happy with my cheap £20 soundbar. My desk is against a wall now so the ambient light they’d produce would look great too.
You are going to want powered speakers so that you don't need to buy a separate amp. Bookshelf form factor fits pretty easily on desks. Edifier, Swan, Audioengine are brands that I read up on and/or heard myself and trust nearly anything they put out. The CNet Audiophiliac is pretty trustworthy, too, so go through his slideshow to see other options that fit your budget outside of the brands I mentioned above.
Since Smokey mentioned to me in discord he wants a 2.1 instead of a 2.0 system, my suggestions above still stand, but I also would like to add this Klipsch and Harmon Kardon speakers to the list. They are both good for the price. That HK has fantastic looks. Some of the Swan speakers do, too, but in a different way.
Thanks Kibner, I'll definitely check those out when I get a chance

Also it looks like Noctua now offers fans in different colors outside of that god awful beige and brown.

Might be a game changer.
I do love my 5x Corsair ML140 Pros though. Great fans.

They’ve been out a while now, they brought out matching covers for the D15 too.
Their new 120mm sterrox fans are supposed to be really good, even outperforming 140mm fans but they’re limited to brown and beige with a lovely exposed bearing.
Harman Kardons are the best, been using them for a decade.
Also for my sis, gaming computer what kind of power supply should she have. Any 80+ Bronze that covers her power req? Not OCing.

80 Bronze at the minimum. Get as rare a metal as you can afford. I got one without any fans that also has a 12 year warranty: Seasonic Flagship PRIME Titanium 600 Fanless

Such a good piece of hardware. Makes my SF600 feel inadequate.
I'm a fool easily parted with my money so I bought some expansion ports that fill up my motherboard headers and a couple things to attach to my server to get it ready for home theater and productivity duties.
I will still have sata, pci-e, and m.2 slots available but at least all the usb headers will now be filled!
- rear panel four-port usb 2.0 expansion
- front panel one-port usb 3.1 gen 2 and two-port usb 3.1 gen 1 expansion
- seven-port usb 3.1 gen 1 powered hub
- 8TB external hdd

Also, I was looking at PC UHD drives so I could rip my own movies to storage, but the requirements are ridiculous. Just to do playback of discs you own, you need a kaby lake processor, but not an *-e version of it because there is a certain hardware security module you need as that is what does the security check for the discs. If you also try to display through a dedicated gpu, it needs to be an nvidia 1000 series in order to have another hardware security bit.
If you want to rip discs, you first need a drive that is UHD friendly. This means an earlier drive that doesn't have the latest firmware applied so that a flaw can be used to start the rip process. In addition to that, you also need the security key for the disc you are trying to rip. No one has cracked the scheme, so you are reliant on leaks being provided for your disc.
It's all a stupid bunch of bullshit and pirating would be so much easier to ensure a lossless (or near-enough) copy of discs I own can be saved to my media server so I can watch it wherever on whatever device I want.
