By Kibner Go To PostI need to go get some canned air so I can clean out all the dust when the new parts come in.
Always gotta have spares. I had to get some distilled water and pure alcohol earlier, kinda spilt some Buckfast all over my K65, left it with some sticky switches. On the plus side, I'm back on my Outemu blue switch board and it is fucking fantastic still.

I spent much of my lunch break today wiping down my case with a damp cloth. Discovered a couple features of my case that I didn't even know about before and planning out a strategy to actually do good cable management, for once.

Rather save up 5x the amount for the Asus/Acer 4k/144hz panels
Even today everything has compromises, those 4k 144hz can only do 4:4:4 chroma at 98hz.
Hoping the upcoming 35'' VA HDR FALD 200hz ultrawide's don't suffer much ghosting, i'll likely be getting one.

I haven't used it for gaming, yet, (due to gaming pc being broke) but the Kinesis Vektor mouse is among the more comfortable mice I can remember. Comparing it to the Zowie EC2-A, the Vektor is a bit longer but a bit thinner. When holding the mice, the right side of my palm gets more support on the Zowie but the Vektor doesn't put as much pressure on my pinkie in order to pick up and move the mouse during recentering, though that may just be poor form on my part. The Zowie is also far lighter.
The Vektor has better feeling side buttons, though they take slightly longer to activate due to having more resistance. The sensitivity adjustment button is also much easier to access (on top of the mouse vs on the bottom for the Zowie). Additionally, it has rgb.
The Vektor has two lighting zone: one for the scroll wheel and logo under the palm and the other for a side strip. There is some bleed through of light from the light zones, though it really only shows if you turn off the side lighting. I have no idea if you can sync up the rgb to the rest of your system. You can see more details of the rgb options here: https://gaming.kinesis-ergo.com/vektor/
The mouse does not appear to require extra drivers. I installed the configuration software on my personal laptop, configured things how I liked, then moved the mouse to my work laptop with no issues. Everything stayed as I configured it, so it looks like the settings are saved to the mouse instead of to your machine.
I still have to give it more time and actually game with it to come to a firm conclusion on how I feel about it. Early impressions are pretty positive. I do find myself wishing the right side was wider, but they made the mouse ambidextrous, instead (yet didn't include side buttons next to the thumb for left-handed users; baffling).

Plugged it in, saw the light on the motherboard turn on, hit the power button and... nothing. Pressed the built-in power button on the motherboard and same result. Tried plugging into a different outlet. Tried plugging into a UPS running on batter power.
Now I have to take everything out the case and see if there is a short in the case causing an issue. Which is what I should have done before I put everything in the case.
Pretty happy with my wiring job, though.
Is that the Silverstone case from some years back that GN did a video on a couple months ago? Sweet jesus.

It's a very cool and quiet case. Quite massive, though.
e: i got things working when i took everything outside the case. putting things back in one-by-one and testing power on to see if i can figure out the problem. the motherboard is mounted and all case plugs are plugged in with no issues. time to plug in all the accessories minus the gpu to see if it powers on
Are you talking about this review?
Mine is nearly identical except for a couple differences: 1) no glass panel; just another opaque, insulated side panel 2) a 90mm (i think that's the size) fan on top above the cpu cooler stack. So, it runs even cooler than that RV02.

Figured out the issue, sorta. System won't turn on when the video card is plugged in, via pci-e, power, or both. Not sure why that would prevent a computer from even turning on but I guess that is something I need to go research.
I had that case it was great, the only downside really was the increased need to buy specific video cards that didn't have the heatpipes run too vertical
well, i updated the bios but still no go being able to boot with the gpu plugged in
i think it may be dead. hopefully msi can help me out

Did more testing and confirmed the GPU is fucked. I thought that maybe my new PSU was an issue (not enough power), so I took my old one which used to power it and plugged it in; same issue. I removed my GPU and my old PSU powered the PC fine.
Looks like something happened to make my motherboard and GPU take each other out.

Yep, FT02 was a dope case. Mine still has my P67 Asus mobo with the 2600k still in it. Been sitting in there for years now.
I must have thrown away the box that had spare parts for my case and, since I removed my sound card, I now have an open space without a grill or other thing to stop shit from falling in. I wanted just one but these only come in black and in packs of four, so to make things match, I bought two packs to replace the existing ones, too.
Not too expensive when I found them on the FrozenCPU website: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/7171/cpa-236/Silverstone_Aero_Slots_Vented_Expansion_Slot_Covers_-_4-Pack_-_Nickel_SST-AEROSLOTS.html
There is also a version that is painted black, but I would rather nickel-coated than that.

two thousand united states dollars and zero cents for an hdr computer screen with major halo issues due to "only" 384 (or so) lighting zones
By Smokey Go To Postpreordereddon't do it!
By Smokey Go To PostpreorderedBuy two, sell me the second at mates rates 👌🏻
By Kabro Go To Postso whats the difference between HDR monitors and professional grade 10-12 bit panels?True HDR specifies pixel luminosity level in addition to color.
For certified HDR monitors, these luminosity levels are controlled per pixel (in the case of oled) or per "zone" (normal leds). For this particular monitor, imagine splitting up the screen into 384 equally sized squares. Behind each square is a lamp that can be dimmed or brightened independently of all others. This allows for just one part of the screen to emit a higher lumen value than other parts.
Zone lighting can be problematic when there are too few zones, because you get an effect called "haloing". This is where a part of the screen smaller than a zone should be brighter or darker than surround parts but the whole zone is lit/dimmed despite only part of it being needed. You can see an example of the effect at this timestamp:
OLED's are backlit per-pixel, so they don't show this effect.
the VESA HDR spec includes brightness (nits) but it's still pretty weak, their highest spec (HDR 1000) still allows for 8bit+FRC panels
384 zones for a screen that size is still pretty good though
384 zones for a screen that size is still pretty good though
I was set on waiting for the ROG SWIFT PG35VQ but i was just looking on ebay and the HP OMEN X 35'' (100hz, gsync, VA) is only $699 and it is very tempting.
I was about to suggest one of the other Asus or Acer monitors but then I saw you list 35", so never mind.

I sent my MSI card off to RMA land. Hopefully, they will send me one that works because I was looking at prices for another 1070 and... yeesh. Fucking crypto people making the card more expensive now than when I bought it two years ago. I might just wait and save up for an 1180, instead.

It took a month but I finally got my MOBO. ASRock Z77 Extreme4, paid a bit more than I wanted at $124 but I have lost out on 20 mobo auctions. Now I wonder if I should try to OC that machine, it's not my future build so I probably shouldn't (i'd need a new CPU as it's an i3-3220, why spend on a now build?)

I would see if I could find a review for that monitor and see if they mention what angle you can sit at before the colors start to distort.
It came down to the HP Omen X or Acer Predator X34A when I was deciding which ultrawide to get. It's been a while, so I don't remember everything that was wrong with the Omen, but there were quite a few negatives, which is why I passed hard, despite loving the design.
That VA panel is rather trash for gaming, iirc. Maybe they fixed some of the other (admittedly minor) issues with firmware updates, I couldn't tell you.

I'm glad I didn't buy the InWin A1 already, I'm gonna hold off for this instead. It's about as "no compromise" as it gets for an ITX case.
Aside from the looks, this caught my attention.

Dedicated bays for drives, fans, radiators, etc are great for making builds fast and easy, but terrible if you want to optimize the usable space and create a truly customizable platform. So when we created our last 2 cases, the F12C and DB4, we pioneered the use of something we called the universal bracket. The DA2 also utilizes this innovative approach with a track that is integrated into the frame, allowing the brackets be fitted anywhere along the sides of the case. The unique approach to hardware mounting means even the PSU can be relocated making this case extremely versatile and customizable.
My parents' birthday is coming up, this reminds me I should start looking into getting them a cheap-yet-capable PC.
I'm going with a mini build for sure. Ryzen 2400g is still the most likely processor to be used. That's the processor, graphics card and cooler sorted in one purchase, which is a rather tantalizing thought.

While looking for a USB 3.0 switch with DDM Fast Switching, I came across a Programmable USB 3.0 hub, which I thought was neat.
Anybody had issues with their fans locking at a certain RPM? Noticed it recently with my two noctua redux fans (PWM), they're set to adjust with the CPU temp, but after a while of using my PC they'll either lock at the max RPM or at around 1100-1200RPM for no apparent reason. They go back to normal after a reboot.

Maybe use software to try and control the fans? I'm using Asus AI Suite 3. I think it's probably outdated, but it works for me. I've got my 3x chassis fans running set to run at 800 RPM, and the other two on the Kraken x62 set to adjust with CPU.

I’ll give that a try. The fans are on my heatsink and controlled through the BIOS currently. I’ve 3 more running on a fan controller that don’t seem to have the issue but the RPM for them doesn’t show up in HWinfo or HWmonitor.

Here's what my numbers look like, and the software I use
You can change to each individual chassis fan and give it the RPM you want in RPM Mode. Smart mode it adjusts on the fly to the CPU temperature but I didn't like how it would all of a sudden get louder with the fans during spikes, and go back and forth.
Yay, the simplicity of the FT02 strikes again. I just put all three 180 mm fans and the single 120 mm fan at low speed and just don't worry about it.
Restarted. But I'm wondering why there's so many instance of Chrome? I have a single browser open with 2 tabs, but I see this
