By Hitch Go To PostInfinity War is perhaps the first legitimately great Marvel film imo
Finally has the stakes to get invested in it.
How are they going to approach the films between now and IW2 aside from making them all prequels, or just bringing the heroes back thus removing the stakes from IW2?
edit: nice, just read that they filmed them back-to-back. Hopefully IW2 will be out sooner than I expected then. Will probably make a rare trip to the cinema to watch it
Ant Man & The Wasp takes place before IW, Captain Marvel is in the 90s, the only big question is how will they will do with the Spiderman 2 marketing since it comes out one month after IW 2.
By reilo Go To PostBut Black Panther wasn't that good of a movie though.Agreed. A lot of the pushback is because Black Panther will more than likely end up in the popular bracket, and not the serious Best Picture category that reviews/think pieces/box office returns appeared to justify, My fear once it started breaking records was that the academy was gonna fake being inclusive and dole out a how bunch of unwarranted nominations. The old fogey's clutching their pearls went in the opposite direction by siloing all the popular stuff to its own category.
I dunno what the critical reaction to Crazy Rich Asians will be, but if it's a unexpected hit for the Asian community, mirrowing something like Get Out, then I'm sure "popular" is suited for it also.
By s y Go To PostDamn y'all really hate black panther and love the Oscars huh
By s y Go To PostDamn y'all really hate black panther and love the Oscars huhHate, no. Love, no. I found it completely passable. Main guy got put on literal ice for a chunk of the movie, with the silliest of "the king is dead" tropes. Killmonger is cool, so is Shuri being a Q-type companion. It was nice to see black people in a movie where they owned their own culture and ran things the way they saw fit. We don't get that in cinema enough.
As for the Oscars, I fell out of love with them when I started following the film industry closely. How chummy and political (in Hollywood) it gets is interesting to read, but not fun as a viewer who has learned how unfair the entire process is. It's much more fun to gamify the process and make predictions, than to have a real investment in the winners and losers.
By Apollo Go To PostDisney basically forced the academy to make a best popular category.
That's irony to a tee. Maybe they saw the writing on the wall and said, fuck, if Black Panther isn't going to get a BP nod, might as well push for a category where it's the clear favorite instead.
X-Men Dark Phoenix is going back to reshoot scenes for 3 months. The original filming took 3 and half months.
By LFMartins86 Go To PostX-Men Dark Phoenix is going back to reshoot scenes for 3 months. The original filming took 3 and half months. How long do filmings usually take? About 1 month?
By s y Go To PostHow long do filmings usually take? About 1 month? That's for small movies. 3 and half months for a big budget action movie isn't unusual, reshoots taking as much as the original shooting is strange.
The budget for this is going to be extremely high.
There are reports that they are just changing the last act, similar to how World War Z had a 7 week reshoot to change the 3rd act of the movie.
Betting suspended on Idras Elba being the next James Bond. Going to rustle a few feathers in middle England.
Would love it to happen but it would just be for a couple of movies.
Craig's last movie will be out at end of next year, Elba's Bond movie wouldn't be out before 2021 and the man would be nearly 50 by then.

Craig shouldn't even be doing another one. Getting him to do Spectre was like pulling teeth. I like his Bond, but its time to move on.
I have a feeling they are forcing it now in order to line up something with Nolans schedule for the reboot

I was about to respond 'surely he'd work closely with an expert in that field because of how action-heavy Bond is' then I remembered that the same was true of the Batman films and they never improved in that aspect across the course of three films. Possibly even got worse as they went on.
I'd like to see his take on Bond nonetheless

By Smokey Go To PostMission Impossible has taken over the Bond pocket for me.Been that way since Ghost Protocol. I do enjoy Casino Royale and Skyfall, though.
Right now I have zero hopes for the next Bond. Spectre is trash.

But who knows how he would build up a Bond movie. Whatever, hope he does something original again. Wish he would work with his brother again, but he's working on Westworld.
I don't trust Nolan to write a good Bond. Action is second on the worry list. And if ya can't do those two things for a modern Bond then why are you there?
By n8 dogg Go To PostNolan would make a shit bond film. Dude isn’t great at action.
He'd make a great Bond film--but it's also possible for this to be true with the action being mediocre.
Spectre's return to classic Bond with all the faults that entails basically demolished the platform future directors would have to build upon imo
Nolan might do something interesting with the blank slate, at least.

Nolan would write a shit Bond character. And that's before we get into how he writes women, something the Bond franchise desperately needs to improve upon and Nolan is most definitely not the guy to do it.
You wanna do something interesting with Bond? Hire Lynne Ramsay.

Personally thought the character work in Inception was good. BB was decent enough, though Ra's didn't get the screentime to make him a truly compelling villain. Dunkirk is an odd one. Morsels of backstory, personality through actions, and motives that went without saying.
Haven't seen Insomnia since it came out and I remember very little of it, vaguely recall it being a bit shit.

Think Pacino did really well with the character, despite all the changes from the original. Robin Williams in his role was a breath of fresh air, as his is hardly something he was known for.

Nothing special, but overall pretty decent.
I really liked Insomnia. Not life changing or anything, but it's a good way to spend a winter afternoon.
By domino Go To PostWell Black Klansman is an instant classic. Walked out speechless.Going to an early bird showing tomorrow!
And Boot's Riley thought he wasn't opening a hornets nest with this tweet:
He has since deleted the original tweet, but not the reply. I questioned directly about his takeaway of BlacKkKlansman being that cops are the heroes/saviors, which is not what the movie does at all. It's interesting to me that he's hell bent on the cop angle and claiming that it rewrote the history of the KKK and police interactions.
