I'm one of those guys that enjoys pre-emptively spoiling movies for himself by reading their plots on Wikipedia and then still watching the movies later just to appreciate the acting, cinematography, and execution of everything.
It's like how you can always go back to re-watch the old Bruckheimer epics like the all-time classic Sean Connery/Nic Cage-helmed The Rock.
So anyway, I've gone ahead and spoiled the ending of BlackKklansman for myself, and uh... I guess you really have to watch it in order to appreciate it

nah you dont want to know. you just have to see it. my chest was tight for about the last 35-40 mins* of the movie

But there is, of course, a moronic irony to the news. The Academy was virtually guaranteed a major motion picture in its Best Picture race this year: Black Panther.
but what’s most interesting about this turn of events is that Black Panther was literally the only film we’ve seen this year that seems remotely certain to be recognized in the major categories at the ceremony in February.dude, no
Okay this whole Black Panther being in the elite of Oscar noms is quite maddening. The movie is godawful in huge chunks (e.g. the entire last act).
By Perfect Blue Go To Posthttps://www.polygon.com/2018/8/13/17671824/perfect-blue-20th-anniversary-theatersI don't know if I'm strong enough to watch this a second time.
Fuuuuuuuuuuck
Infinity War is a much better made film than Black Panther, and it still just feels way short of anything like Best Picture material
How much importance does the academy tend to place on social significance?

Look, i thought black panther was average too. But the reason the academy have done this is because they are scared it wont get a nom and the backlash that’ll follow lol
I support the Black Panther nom if it means more black inclusion/empowerment (and the normalization thereof) becoming a part of Anglo cinematic history. Like, this will make it more possible (socioeconomic or otherwise) for an Idris Elba-helmed James Bond.
Then we won't have pieces of shit like Shyamalan making Airbender movies and instead James Wan can make an Airbender reboot instead. This is all about Avatar for me.

There's a tiny bit of irony with this Black Panther as Best Picture push to get the mainstream interested in the Oscars again because Moonlight won a Best Picture yet nobody saw the damn movie.

Nothing you need to know imminently. Just some contemporary social commentary.
Had no idea Happy End was in UK Netflix. Definitely a Haneke greatest hits compilation, not necessarily a bad thing. Sia scene is tragicomic.

cruise missile coming soon
Cruise has long been mentioned as a rumor to be cast as the new Green Lantern, especially with frequent collaborator Christopher McQuarrie in talks to join the film.Yep, Day Fucking One
I know nothing about Green Lantern, but I don't have much faith in DC's film output, even with Cruise onboard. Those trailers for Aquaman are awful.
Idk, that doesn't like like Rome or Roma (the people) to me.
I don't see race though. People tell me I'm white and I believe them because I do enjoy a couple of Eagles' songs.

It's set in Mexico City.
Got around to watching Infinity War from my UHD steelbook i copped at release...movie looks ridiculous, and the HDR, whew. I saw it in Dolby Cinema in the theater, which features HDR, but my OLED made it look that much better. Disc version is HDR10 and the digital is in Dolby Vision, which is superior, but I'll be #teamphysical until they kill the UHD format. Luckily all of these 4k movies have digital codes, so the transition wouldn't be hard. But fuck data caps.
I haven't gotten around to watching it at home, I just wanted the 4K steelbook.
I'm a sucker for steelbooks, physical movies need to die or I'll keep wasting money. At least with video games physical has zero benefits so I just go digital anyway

By FortuneFaded Go To PostWatched Dog Day Afternoon for the first time this morning. Pacino was fantastic.
Easily one of my very favourite performances by any actor.
