An update on my Z:
Drove the car a few times, and it's been good. The new intake is fucking awesome, gobs of new power without a tune.
But...still things to fix. The differential bushings are totally shot, and new solid polyurethane bushings are at the house waiting to be installed. Nissan uses shitty silicone filled ones that flex and tear. So I've got little pools of silicone liquid in the garage. Not a big deal, just as long as you don't drive the car like a psycho and shift with a hammer.
There may (or may not) still be a minuscule oil seep after installing the new oil cooler accessories. There was a droplet 2 weeks ago...but I've driven it twice since then (once yesterday for 20 miles) and I don't see anything new. There was some smell and a very little bit of smoke still emanating from the cowl/hood/windshield area...but that may residual oil that hasn't burned off yet. When the bushings get done in a few weeks, we'll check if there is any seepage.
If not, then we move onto the next phase: tires. I'm pretty sure with such infrequent use from the previous owner and myself, these Firestone's are getting flat spotted and they are too loud. I'm also going to get rid of the stock cats and get the tune done.

😭
Aesthetics have been the costliest,
Paint: $1500
Detail: $500
Oil Cooler Accessories: $250
Oil Cooler Labor: $250 (this includes multiple attempts)
Intake Cost: $450
Bushings Cost: $99
Bushings Labor: $250
Axle Click Labor: $100
Throttle Body + MAF cleaning Labor: $100
Alignment: $40
Some of these are maintenance costs, and some are aftermarket. In total it's been ~$3000
There are things I have also fixed on my own too which required no money on my end.

Bros... So i got my car back as they called me that the part was in yesterday and my car would be done by today. I’m driving home when I notice I’m getting rev hang at 1.2k rpm. It chills there for about 5 seconds then drops. Checked online and it seems to be the pcv valve which I replaced a year ago... cmon. Lol.
Edit: popped the hood and the dipstick wasn’t even in all the way. Put it in, drove the car, everything back to normal. Smh. I swear.

Wow...that could've ended very badly for you. I've seen loose dipsticks and an engine bay covered in oil.

New windshield is your best bet, they can get worn down for sure.
So I'm reading how the Camaro has fallen off hard compared to the Mustang and Challenger...and the article points out that the Challenger is on a decade old platform.
Wtf
The current platform utilized by both the Charger and Challenger was developed by Chrysler and Daimler...and dates back to the 1990s
Wtf
Wow, that's a bit up there. But I guess we all have our hobbies. Plan on babying my Z even further now. :o

Pretty sure they're all loosely related and have evolved from the W211 E-Class chassis. That platform ran from 2003-2009.
Edit: Also, the Camaro has fallen off because it stayed ugly, cheap, and plasticky inside and out. It's redesign a few years ago was simply lazy.

I still have the itch to do something similar to a favorite sportscar of the past but it would likely be something older and I just haven't figured out which direction I want to go with it yet. I've considered the Porsche 944/968 platform as well as the E46 BMW but this is all still in the planning stages.
Dealership wanted to charge me $330 to fix some clicking in my steering wheel. $30 part, $300 labor. Might see if it is feasible to do it myself. They said they have to rebuild the entire steering column.
I think the part was called a stress flexor or something. It's a rubber gear supposedly that might be missing a couple teeth now. It's supposedly not dangerous to leave it as is, it just gets annoying.

Thanks. An E46 M3 is still in my pipeline for sometime next year, unfortunately (for my bank account) and I plan on restoring that too. This time around, I'll at least try to find a car that's still got great paint. I'll probably wait until end of 2019 to make that jump. I'll need to figure out where to keep all of these cars though :|
My neighbor did just get a lift for all of his cars, though...
:O
I'd definitely take the aero wheel cover off to reveal the wheel...but man is that one hell of a car. It looks like something out of Speed Racer and Ridge Racer combined.

Just got back from a 3 week vacation in the Philippines and it's amazing seeing the cars we don't get here in the States as well not seeing the badges we get here. Trucks like the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger are ridiculously common whereas cars like the Civic and Corolla are nowhere to be seen, replaced by even smaller cars like the Honda City(a sedan version of the Fit) and a Toyota Vios(probably a Yaris over here if it still existed).
European brands like Peugeot, Citroen, and MG are also being sold there but tbh I didn't really see them on the other roads. I just remember seeing their dealerships lined up on the highway along with the rest of the marques.
Meanwhile dead brands like Mitsubishi and Isuzu are fucking alive and kicking, selling their SUV's like the Montero Sport and mu-X like hotcakes. Also diesel is practically ubiquitous, available in all types of cars even your shitty ass Hyundai Accent lol.
Speaking of diesel, I can count the number of Volkswagens that I saw in my two hands... and that's excluding the old Beetles still running around. Seriously, I think i saw like 5-10 VW's in my 3 weeks there and I stayed in a total of 4 cities. No Golfs either, just Jettas, Tiguans, and something called Santana which seems exclusive to the SEA market.
Mazdas on the other hand are a bit more common but it's apparently considered a luxury brand over there these days. Service and Parts are ridiculously expensive especially if you live outside of Manila(the capital city). Seems like once Mazda switched over to Skyactiv a few years ago, they also started "luxur-izing"(if that's a term) the brand. You still see lots of pre-Skyactiv cars running around but the Skyactiv cars are definitely a lot less.
As for luxury cars, it's pretty interesting to say the least. BMWs seem to be more common than Audis but Merc is the king. I definitely saw more MBs than both BMW and Audi combined. Other luxury brands definitely have a presence as well but not enough for me to remember lol.
But the most interesting part about seeing the cars over there is the drastic differences between all the other cars on the road... seeing all these new cars with HID/LED lights in contrast to the beatup looking taxis, jeepneys, and tons of old cars on the road... it's kind of a weird feeling tbh. It's especially weirder if you're not in Manila... your car just sticks out like a sore thumb with the bright ass lights, seems like you're practically begging for attention/showing that you've got loads of cash to blow.
One more thing, fuck driving over there. Not only is traffic ridiculous, but nobody follows the lanes nor the rules. The best they'll do is follow the traffic lights... all that other stuff is just optional lmao. For example, you've got like 3 lanes at a stop light, one lane is exclusively for the left and the others are going straight. But fuck that noise, you've got cars and motorcycles on the farthest right lane make left turns anyway lol. And the best part, there's a couple of traffic officers watching and controlling the flow but they don't give a shit either. But if you're driving a motorcycle and wearing flip flops... you're ass is gonna get stopped and fined lmao.
Anyway, that was a fun trip and tbh I kinda want to live there lol. Beyond the cars, life is just drastically different and I feel that I'd enjoy the urban lifestyle rather than this suburbia shit I'm in right now. Maybe that's why I really want to move to LA lol.

Closest I can think of are Opels really just being Chevys in disguise.
We don't get the Renault umbrella of cars here. Nissan is probably the closest relative.
Peugots aren't related to any other manufacturer afaik.

Opel = Buick in the US.
They are literally just rebadging the Cascada convertible with Buick badges. And the Insignia Grand Sport is the Buick Regal here. The Buick Encore is the Opel Mokka.
Basically, the original plan started out as Saturns being rebagded Opels (see: Saturn Astra & Aura). But when GM folded Saturn, they moved that entire plan to Buick.

On the topic of American cars...rented a Dodge Charger R/T last week while driving from Albany airport to Lake George for a work retreat. Felt like I was driving an SUV the whole time. It's such a large and chunky car. This had 370HP, and it definitely had some low-end grunt. Interior was pretty mediocre in quality and such. Nothing really stood out or impressed me. UConnect was okay...too many things are stored in this interface which made it infuriating to turn off the heated seats, which for some damn reason turned on automatically at one point and started a fire under my ass. A simple toggle would be preferable.
What I truly hated was the drone of the exhaust. It constantly howled and droned at highway speeds and cruising RPMs. It almost sounded aftermarket, but being that this was a rental from Budget...it was a factory exhaust which all 17s+ have for the 5.7L. It lacks any kind of refinement. I tried finding a setting to shut the exhaust off...thought maybe a valve could be closed? Nope. Tried putting it into Eco...same. So I had to feather the throttle extremely gently and/or keep my RPMs at a certain level.
Anyway, just wanted to share.

Lol the food was delicious... I gained 5 pounds in a span of 3 weeks. 😭😭😭
I ate everything from fresh af seafood to weird delicacies like grilled chicken intestine, balut, and more. Even had the chance to go eat at Hawker Chan, which served the world's cheapest meal that got a Michelin Star(under $4 USD).
I do want to move to SoCal but nobody even seems to want me. 😔 I've applied/sent my resumes to companies over there and not one of them even say thanks for trying lol.

What I've learned about applying to out of state jobs...use an in-state address. A lot of companies consider it a hassle to interview someone who doesn't even live in the state yet, and then worry that person will ask for moving comp. My wife had this issue when we were in the process of moving to Florida. She applied to tons of jobs for 5 months with a NYC address. Nothing.
Once the resume had our brand new FL address, 2 weeks later she had a job.
So if you've got someone's address you can use, do that.

That might not be a bad idea, I do have a lot of family and friends who live in the area.
But what if they call and ask you to come in for an interview? I don't have $300 to spend on a round trip plane ticket right now... I mean I just blew all my money on the Philippines lmao.

What would you have done if they called for an interview regardless (i.e. with your current address on the resume)? You'd have needed to get on a plane either way right? The important part is that a conversation would get initiated. But you could just say you just moved to the area and are currently packing up more stuff from your old house. You're available for a video interview and can fly in in XYZ amount of days.
