Huh so it was announced a few days ago that Cars and Coffee Dallas is officially over come December of this year... that'll be the last show in its entire 9 year run. Had I known, I would've shown up yesterday.
Organizes blame the people coming in and being all aggressive in wanting to show off their shitty V6 Mustangs and Camaros, ricers, and basically any shit car... which I agree. The last two times I went I pretty much saw the same lineup of cars, barring one or two that managed to somehow get in.
Doesn't help that it's waaaaay too fucking far in "Dallas" and it's got a small ass parking lot(it's basically a BMW dealer lot). For example, if I was to go, I'd have to pay about $7-8 dollars in tolls if I want to get there in about 30 mins... if I don't take the tollway, it'd take me an hour to get there and I live right in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth!
I don't want to say good riddance coz even if the cars were shit, it was still kinda fun... but it definitely ran its course imo. I'm definitely going to be at the last one in December... might even show up super early just for the hell of it.
Good point. I'm gonna try this out and let y'all know lol.

By AlphaSnacks Go To PostWhat would you have done if they called for an interview regardless (i.e. with your current address on the resume)? You'd have needed to get on a plane either way right? The important part is that a conversation would get initiated. But you could just say you just moved to the area and are currently packing up more stuff from your old house. You're available for a video interview and can fly in in XYZ amount of days.
Good point. I'm gonna try this out and let y'all know lol.
I need a new daily driver and cant decide what to get. Do I go sensible or crazy? Luxury or sport? Buy or lease?
Obviously I get an employee discount on Porsche and BMW leases, but not sure I need a new expensive flashy daily since I already have the 458. My daily commute is about 40 miles.
I absolutely love the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio as a driver's car, but cant justify the reliability and interior concerns for something of that price range.
I think I dont want to spend more than $40k if I buy.
Suggest away! I'm open to anything. Don't need more than 2 seats. Maybe a manual trans would be nice since I dont have one anymore.

My X5 lease is up in less than a month. Need something ASAP.
Havent driven one but actually started thinking Civic Type R earlier today. The styling is out there, but it's a fun to drive, reliable car with one of the sweetest 6 speed manuals in the industry. Should hold resale value pretty well too. Not as common/vanilla as a Mini, Golf, Focus, 3 series.

Dat exhaust doe.
STI?
I would actually prefer a more moderate exhaust for daily duties. Whenever I want aural nirvana, I'll grab the keys the the Ferrari.
IMO, the vanilla-ness of the Golf is the best part and one of the reasons why I got it tbh.
To everyone else, a GTI or R just looks like your bog-standard VW. But for those who know, then they know... especially when all they'll see is your ass pulling away haha.
Anyway, a Type R does sound interesting too, assuming you can get it for under $40K. Dealers around me are still charging waaay over MSRP and still asking people for a downpayment just to test drive it.

We own a Honda franchise as well so I'm pretty sure I can get it for MSRP, maybe even below. I'll check tomorrow. Figure I can drive it for a few years and not lose that much.
I dunno. My other consideration is completely different. Like a 2018 Mercedes E400 or 2016 S550.

I like the Type R idea. I think it would make for a very fun and cheap daily and it would also hold its value very well.
By AlphaSnacks Go To PostOn the topic of American cars…rented a Dodge Charger R/T last week while driving from Albany airport to Lake George for a work retreat. Felt like I was driving an SUV the whole time. It's such a large and chunky car. This had 370HP, and it definitely had some low-end grunt. Interior was pretty mediocre in quality and such. Nothing really stood out or impressed me. UConnect was okay…too many things are stored in this interface which made it infuriating to turn off the heated seats, which for some damn reason turned on automatically at one point and started a fire under my ass. A simple toggle would be preferable.Let me start by saying that I wholeheartedly agree with you on the sense that it feels like an SUV. I did not enjoy driving my wife's SRT8 very much, other than just the feel and presence of the thing. But it being Pink and a Challenger instead of a Charger does change that a bit compared to a rental RT Charger.
What I truly hated was the drone of the exhaust. It constantly howled and droned at highway speeds and cruising RPMs. It almost sounded aftermarket, but being that this was a rental from Budget…it was a factory exhaust which all 17s+ have for the 5.7L. It lacks any kind of refinement. I tried finding a setting to shut the exhaust off…thought maybe a valve could be closed? Nope. Tried putting it into Eco…same. So I had to feather the throttle extremely gently and/or keep my RPMs at a certain level.
Anyway, just wanted to share.
However, the R/T and SRT are really in different leagues. And by that, I mean instead of feeling like a Tahoe, it feels more like... I'm not sure exactly, but something in between a Macan and a Tahoe.
That being said, we did fix it. It took about $1500, but it's a completely different car now. Basically it required a number of chassis reinforcement items and beefier engine/tranny mounts. Everything is just so loose, which is why it gives it the SUV feel. Short list:
-Hop Not Kit (buttons down the rear cradle mounts)
-Subframe connectors (connect front and rear, welded in place)
-Front and rear swaybars
-Heavy duty motor mounts
-Transmission crossmember
I dont know the value of each item, we did all of them at the same time. But, all the slop has been eliminated, steering feels really direct but still not very communicative which might be a tire issue. All in all, feels like a bulky german performance car now. Still not in the same realm of perfection of the E39, but loads better.
A platform being old is not natively a good or bad thing.
By Smokey Go To PostReally want to see this car updated.TMK, there's literally only two RWD NA V8 Sedans you can buy right now. That, and the Lexus GS-F. If being on an old platform is what allows the production and sales to still be viable for the car, I'm cool with it.
It's a muscle car, which seems like it'd do great in Houston. There aren't that many canyons/twisties where you live are there? Seems like presence, comfort, and power would be king. I can't imagine a better highway and road trip car than the Hellcat Charger/Challenger.

(type r would be rad, started to come around on them after seeing them in person)
Spoke to the Honda GM. I knew going into it that getting a discount on something so rare and in demand was a crapshoot, but he did agree to sell it to me for MSRP. He likes that the car will stay local and be seen online and at track days and meets. So it's kind of like marketing for them. He says Si sales went way up after the Type R launched. We have 2 in stock, black and white.
It looks aggressive and stealth in black but I feel like I have to get it in the classic Champion White on Red in true Type R JDM fashion.

My Cars & Coffee this past weekend was lit...over 100 cars. Lot was packed and overflowed. I wasn't expecting it, but seriously cool cars showed up (as well as 6 separate Type-Rs, which is funny considering the current convo).
240 with LS swap:
900HP Chevy Pick up
Superperformance Ford GT40 (these are literally 99% accurate builds)
The GT4 had a Fabspeed exhaust. Wowowowow. The popping and anger on the overruns...holy shit.
Viper ACR
Liberty Walk Murci
The very limited STI Type RA and another Civic Type-R
Yep, that's a Pantera

3 things:
1) Yes, Mustangs in attendance were assholes when leaving the lot. But nobody got hurt. 6 Stangs left together. All acted foolishly.
2) Yes, the girl in the last shot got a lot of attention. But she was with a 55-60 year old guy, with long pony-tailed grey hair who looked and dressed rather hippy-ish. And no, that wasn't their VW Bus. I actually don't remember what car they came out of.
3) There was still so many other cars that came and didn't get their pictures taken. GTRs. Lambo and R8 with gated shifters. LS swapped IS300. F430 Scud. 260Z. Etc

By Evo X Go To PostIt is done.Grats! Had a chance to drive it yet? I was so tempted to get one of those before I bought the TTRS but I really wanted a dual clutch for my daily. Still, the Type R is just about perfect for a "cheap" sports car daily for those who want to shift their own gears.
The car we drove was a Z4 M40i in European specification, which has an exhaust particulate filter that limits output to 335 horsepower. Cars in the United States don't need such a system, which means a mighty 382 ponies and an estimated 4.2-second zero-to-60-mph time. The fuck is a particulate filter and why does a car lose 50hp because of it wtf
The Z4's steering is worthy of particular praise. It feels crisper and more natural than the gloopy electronic assistance of the 5-series. We're told that the new 3-series will use pretty much the exact same system, which is a good omen.Great news
By reilo Go To PostThe fuck is a particulate filter and why does a car lose 50hp because of it wtf
Great news
Is it a diesel model they drove? All diesels in the EU require a particulate filter because of health and environmental reasons. It's basically a block in the exhaust system that catches all that heavy partical shit and then incinerates it when you drive over 40mph for an extended period of time, like 15 minutes.
If it's a petrol no fucking idea lmao
Nah, not diesel. This is the 6-cyl turbo gasoline engine that's in every (n)40i model and in the current M240i.
baffling then. You only see them on diesels in the EU.
Drove past a classic F40 on the country roads today. Still wetter than the average fanny, that car.

Most new gasoline engines are required to have particulate filters in order to pass the latest Euro 6d-temp emission regulations.
Combustion motors as they have been are simply a dying breed. There is a reason why there's so few V12/V10s and naturally aspirated V8s or V6s.
For a petrolhead it's a bummer, but for the greater good it (really) isn't.

In Germany every car with a gasoline direct injection engine has to have a particle filter, called OPF "Otto Partikelfilter". Cars with port fuel injection do not require an OPF.
Reason is the all new emission standard "Euro 6c", which limits the emitted size and amount of particles, in effect since 01.09.2018 (september first) for all new car models with their first registration after that date.
Because of that basically all german car manufacturers cancelled all their gasoline models for half a year, leaving only a few diesel models (ironic, i know) available for order.
The emission standard Euro 6c comes into effect 01.09.2018, Euro 6d-TEMP 01.09.2019. Many manufacturers skip 6c in favor for 6d-TEMP.

Self interested question here, does this mean that would affect the Cayman I ordered that was built last month? Or would that be next year's model?

Yea cars shipped from Germany for the US or other markets only conform to standards set in the market sold.
Drove it 50 miles so far. It has exceeded my expectations in just about every regard. Seats, steering, brakes, and shifter are top notch. Power comes on strong. Handles like a go kart. Suspension is smooth in comfort mode. It's quite, economical, and has tons of trunk space. Android Auto works flawlessly. Even the styling is starting to grow on me. Its unapologetically Japanese.
Cant wait to give it a proper go once its broken in. Its about to snow here anyday now so I need a set of winter wheels and tires. Low profile Pirelli Sottozeros in 20" OEM fitment are almost $2k so it makes no sense. Looking to get some 18"s for better grip and ride. Anyone got suggestions?

know a guy who got one of those really limited Type R models. But he usually has them. His last Type R was from 2016 i think and they only sold 400 of them in the country.

Government-subsidised plug-in cars may never have been charged
Tens of thousands of plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) bought with generous government grants may be burning as much fuel as combustion-engine cars.
Data compiled for the BBC suggests that such vehicles in corporate fleets averaged just 40 miles per gallon (mpg), when they could have done 130.
The majority of the tens of thousands of eligible vehicles sold were bought by company fleets, including more than 70% of the 37,000 plug-in hybrids sold so far in 2018.
But data from The Miles Consultancy, a Cheshire firm which advises 300 blue-chip companies on fuel management, reveals that many businesses simply used the grant to save on buying regular cars.
EvoX, what can you tell me about 2012-2014 Cayenne S? Are those V8s reliable? Are the cars in general reliable? I love Porsche V8s. It sounds so ideal as a new family car.

Edit: Also, a neighbor has a brand 2019 Cayenne...so pretty.
So, I test drove it.
The good parts:
- I don't love silver cars but this one in matte silver with the Night Package is fucking gorgeous. Black interior with red seat inserts and red stitching throughout make it wonderful. Overall I think the car is a stunner even if I think the tail end could've used another design pass.
- That engine. I think enough has been written about it but holy shit is it wonderful. Baritone, fast, plenty of torque, intoxicating exhaust note. Everything what you seek from a modern V8 that understands style, flare, and performance.
- The DCT was great. Buttery smooth, quick shifts.
- Brakes packed a bite, and had to remind myself several times to ease off a bit.
- The Technology Package is ridiculous. The 360 degree view is amazing. The headlights are perfect. The overhead display makes you feel like the Sci-Fi dreams of the 80s are well alive (in a good way lol).
- The driving modes worked well and were quick to respond. Comfort mode is a must on SF streets lol.
The bad parts:
- As high quality as the interior is, it is really busy. Especially with the carbon fiber trim. For every little thing you can access via the display and change in the settings, there's an associated button, which begs the question why there's so much going on and why the interface also tries to do the same thing.
- The interface truly requires a manual. I still understood it, especially with the touch controller, but it looks like it was designed in the mid-to-late '00s where everyone was still doing glossy button user interfaces for the desktop. It's user experience feels very behind.
- Tangentially, the display isn't touch capable and just kinda... chills there. It gives it an air of being outdated especially with what Audi is pumping out now.
- The car with all of the features was extremely overpriced for something that's built on top of a ~$40k starting platform. The dealer is selling it as new for $95k despite 1,800 miles on it because it was a model car for 5 months. That's just....👎🏻
The car has a lot going for it, but I feel like over time I would really start to get annoyed by a lot of the interior to deal with. There's something to be said about intuitive minimalism in your driving experience.
But oh my god that engine.

Speaking of the interior, something which grinds my gears is that the knee area still isn't padded (even with the recent refresh) on the C-Class. Inexcusable. They've fixed it on the GLC so why not here?
If the likes of Mazda can get that right on almost their entire range why can't "premium brands".
Probably because it's built alongside the Renault Talisman and both use the same lower dash plastics...

C63S Coupe? I really strongly considered that car before I bought the TTRS but, just like you, the price and the interior were the two factors (well, that and the 2019 refresh) that really pushed me towards the TTRS. I love, love love a V8 and I am sure I would have been thrilled with it but I also really love the TTRS interior and, for the price, the performance is still very much on point.
Oh that''s right. A refresh is coming huh? Yea curious to see if it fixes any of what I disliked above. The interior seems largely unchanged minus the optional 12" instrument cluster panel and redesigned steering wheel. New transmission and reworked suspension sounds awesome though.
Don't get me wrong, owning one would be incredible and a lot of fun. I just wouldn't want it at a near $100k pricetag.
