Speaking of the Mustang being a total LA car,
I wanted to check out a GT350 when I bought my last car, but around here they're all marked up to 85-90K which is absurd. 55-60K I could have done but that's just out of the question. Probably still would have gotten discounted for interior quality reasons though.
By Rayge Go To PostTesla is the Apple of the car world right now. But pretty soon you're going to have more enthusiast companies such as Ariel, Rimac, and NextEV who will or already are showing the capabilities of electric on a winding track. Following them will be your bigger entities Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren doing full electric sports cars… And then you'll finally get sporty electric cars trickling down to the mass market with Chevy, Ford, and whatever else. Until then Tesla is going to ham it up with their stats for people to regurgitate.Regarding the bolded, totally. I'm not discounting the possibility of an electric performance car (as they already exist). I'm doubting the ability of Tesla in specific to make one. It's all such marketing BS with no substance.
At the same time though… there are already electric cars out there who crush petrol cars on the track. They just aren't named Tesla. But only the mega wealthy can enjoy that right now. That won't be the case within the next 3 to 5 years though. Then there won't be any skepticism. Just a hard look at the reality of petrol cars starting to be pushed out of motor sports. Then eventually you'll have plenty of people enjoying the same technology around back roads and tracks.
I'm really holding out on further advancements in electric. But if other companies don't hurry up, me and the wife will be picking up a that Model X for a family/friend hauler.
On another note. I don't think very many generation z people and millennials even care what celebrities drive. They just want something to get them from point "a" to point "b."
Y'all... is it worth spending $600 for a replica lighting package for my GTI or not?
Right now I've got the halogens and tbh they seem to work... like I have no issues driving at night even if I'm at obscene speeds.
But the LP replicas have a 5500k HID kit and looks pretty damn cool:
Whereas the halogens look like this:
But again, I don't really have an issue with the lights per se. It just doesn't look as cool and doesn't really match the white LED fog lights.
I'm asking for opinions coz I was dead set on picking up the replicas as soon as they went on sale, but now that I've driven it multiple times at night and have no issues whatsoever... I'm now second guessing the decision lol.

Those HIDs look great on the GTI, not just because of the lights themselves but also because of those red lines that match the red line in the grille.
By reilo Go To PostThe color of the new Vantage really changes my perception of it, lol. I really like it in that dark metallic grey.
And wow at that interior, did not expect that. They are really gunning for the AMG GT crowd, it seems.
From certain angles it looks astounding, but from others it kinda looks like a mix between that Supra concept and the DB11.
This car is basically an AMG GTS. It's the same motor and half of the interior is the same too (the entire center console is the COMMAND from the AMG). There's probably a lot more parts sharing we don't know about too.

Yeah I agree but there’s a problem with the grilles.
Unsurprisingly, the halogen grille doesn’t match with the lighting package headlights including the replica. They’re not aligned correctly so if I do get the GTI replicas with the red stripe, I’d also have to get the LP grille which is another $120+. And at that point it ain’t worth it to me imo.
So, I’m actually getting the Golf R replicas instead. Those just have a chrome strip and they’re aligned with the stripe on the non-LP GTIs.
That’s how it’d actually look like with the Golf R lights and halogen GTI grille.
I'm sure the halogens are adequate, but the bi-xenons are awesome and a massive improvement. Plus the daytime running lights look so damn sharp.
It'll be really hard for me to ever get a car without equivalent headlights in the future.

It's a regional thing, I think. They're pretty rare around here. If I had to guess, we just don't get that many allocations here because sports cars don't sell much. For example, when I do the same lookup in the Ford locator I get the following:
https://shop.ford.com/inventory/mustang/details/1FA6P8JZ7J5500443?zipcode=98683&year=2018&ownerPACode=08502&fromDetails=true&Radius=20&modeltrim=Mustang_F05-SHELBYGT350&Order=Distance
But then when I go to the dealer site the only GT350 they actually have in stock is this GT350R, for 88K:
http://www.courtesyfordportland.com/new/Ford/2017-Ford-Shelby+GT350-a4083ffc0a0e0a1777641ac01c302569.htm?searchDepth=5:11
The one in the Ford locator is listed as "ordered" with the proper MSRP price but I'd guess once they list it as in stock they'll mark it up just like this one. So like 80K.
Here's an actually in stock example:

It originally started at $130K in the US. And towards the end of its life they released a lower spec version that was $99K.
But this Aston and the last can't even be compared. This new Vantage will be an absolutely better car in every regard, beside aesthetics.
The deed is done.
I saw a GTI with LP during my lunch break and it just looked right. But I still didn't want to deal with the separate grilles(not to mention a $200 fee to get installed by a local VW specialist) so I got the Golf R style lights instead. Should look pretty awesome imo as it's a lot more understated:
Plus the two squares actually light up instead of just one like in the GTI lol. I also paired it up a Morimoto HID kit at 5500k so it should work really well.

The video sold me a bit more on the looks than the pictures did. I think some slight tweaks to the bottom grill and the rear diffuser area (paint match?) would improve it just enough to make it look legitimately great.
That sticker price though... Maybe they'll put out a cheaper version again in a few years. That'd be fun.
The front and back diffusors scream “get the carbon pack for only 10k$“
I think it would look magnificent in dark gray or racing green

Basura. Why get this when you can just buy the better looking AMG GTS?
And it takes a lot for me to talk shit about British cars too. Especially AM, because I hold them in very high regard.

Good move. Halogens and old school reflector housings are such a bad look on modern cars. Your GTI deserves this :)

I was stuck behind a gt350 yesterday eastbound 92 from Half Moon Bay to San Mateo. He was behind me at first by like 5 cars but we reached a part where it becomes two lanes and he passed me. I probably hit about 70 before the turn

But since I'm not much of a fan of manual cars (come at me!) the only option available besides manual was the sequential transmission, which i didn't like.
If there would just be a way to fit a double clutch into an Vantage V12 I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
I just hope the new Vanquish in a few years will still have the NA V12. Otherwise I'll do my best to get my hands on the current Vanquish somewhere in the future.

The 8 speed in the Vanquish is pretty fantastic. Best looking AM ever.
Speaking about transmissions... I'm loving the one in my F-Type. I've even though about buying one for this project. I think ZF is manufacturer of the transmission. I haven't driven very many other cars with DCT/Sequential transmissions, but the ones I have tried were not that great. The M4, Z06, and the Lexus LC. They all felt "clunky" to me. Especially the Lexus LC. It's a nice car, but the transmission was the laggiest of all of them and it felt like I was driving a boat. That's a big ass car. I didn't think it was that big until I saw it in person. It made the LFC parked next to it look like a go kart.
I used to be a big advocate on manual transmissions, but after driving around this F-Type, I don't know if I can go back. It's so convenient to have the best of both worlds when you want it.
Everyone is suggesting a 6 speed Tremec for this project. I'm really tempted to get a 7 speed DCT. But to tell you the truth I think I would really lose out on the feel of the car, even if I were trying to modernize it with current technology;

That ZF 8 speed is one of the world's best (if not THE world's best) automatic gearbox. It's in a lot of great cars including most all of the Jags and many BMW's (like my Dad's 3 series). I agree it is fantastic but it is still not as good as the Porsche PDK or the Audi S-tronic/VW DSG, especially on the downshifts.
For your car, if you value involvement more than anything else, I would stick with the Tremec. Isn't it essentially the same as what is in the current GT350? If so, it's a great gearbox.

Can confirm the ZF8 is a treat and doesn't feel like an automatic. I drove it in the F-Type and it felt real good.
BMW sent out an email offering $3,000 in incentives for the 3-series this weekend. I wonder if that means the M4?

Yeah, get them to look at it no matter how small. If it's a bubbled tire or a bent rim it can be expensive and potentially dangerous. Even after the fact you can hold a shit review over their head and get it done. Also, if you're buying used, ALWAYS do a prepurchase inspection from someone other than the dealership you're buying from.

I'm fairly certain that I am going to do either a headlight replacement or upgrade on my GX470 pretty soon. The enclosures are cloudy and yellowed and it is definitely effecting the headlight performance at night. I'd like to move to a higher output set but, depending on the price difference, might just go with the direct OEM replacements. For a 2004 model the GX still looks pretty good overall but those headlights are showing their age.
