I mean sure that’s a reasonable question but

is sort of a silly because, it’s pretty fucking cool.

I still haven't seen one of those out on the road. Not even the non R version. Sat in the 650hp Camaro the other day and it was such a bummer. The seats are terrible for a big guy like me, I would literally have to swap them out because of the bolsters. Why would you constrain around the shoulders? There's no small sports car excuse, it's just dumb. You can't see shit out of it and it sits so much higher than a Vette. I'm strangely attracted to the Hellcat. It sounds maniacal and it's enormous but really mean looking. I just can't shake the thought that it's a rental car with 700hp.

Yes?
After this Daytona and El Camino get finished, I'll be buying electric only. Electric motors destroy combustion engines. My wife will probably be getting the Model X or it's equivalent whenever we take the plunge. Might even give up my mighty Scion Tc for a Model 3... if that situation ever fixes itself. Gas powered cars will soon become a novelty. By 2040-2050 they'll be banned on the open road most likely.
____________________________________________________________________
On another note, I talked to Ringbrothers today to get a timeline and pricing for parts and labor for this Superformance Daytona project and man they are not cheap. Also, the car won't likely be finished until 2021. But I have a feeling that I'll get what I pay for and even if the timeline is extended to 2022, it will be worth the wait.
We also discussed that the powerplant should be Ford. So we are going with a Coyote engine. It'll probably save me from getting death threats too since other shops I was previously trying to get quotes and design ideas from were suggesting using an LS7. I'm going to let them have free reign over the interior, exterior, suspension, and drive train/engine of the car. Basically everything really. They really want to do something with the car since it's not your usual car. They feel it's too narrow and the wheels are too skinny. So the car's body and stance will be widened. We're thinking 305 in the front and 335 or 345 in the rear. Right now they are going to bring it up to their designer and see where he stands on designing around this car.
So the car is pretty much going to be modernized and all the parts will be fabricated instead of me trying to go around and find "similar" parts from online auto stores and junkyards. The interior will be completely redone with new seating dash, layout, materials, steering wheel, driving display, etc. I might not put a sound system in, but I'm still torn. I might throw one in anyways to have an infotainment screen for cameras. The reason being is because the exhaust comes out right beneath the driver and passenger. They did mention that they could do a sort of active exhaust system. If it doesn't add too much the price, I'll probably have it done and have the sound system installed. The exterior will have added aero, the car widened, the hood cut and rehinged, custom rims, new side mirrors, new head-fog-tail lights, redone/resized back hatch in glass instead of the plexiglass. Shelby Daytona purists will probably try to hang me.
I'll be updating my progress on here. I had a chance to grab the CSX 9156 chassis, but I'm trying to pinch my pennies. I also talked to Superformance today to get a chassis with no seats, basic paint, no wheels, no brakes, no steering wheel, no gauges, and no carpet. Maybe even delete more than that if I can. I need to cut costs early because this is going to get super expensive.
Here's a pic of the 9156 chassis. Mine will look even more bare bones than this.
For an idea of how far this is going to go, Mike Ring pointed me to the new Singer 911 that was shown off recently as an idea for the interior of the car. I was opting for a display rather than gauges; although, after looking at this, I think I might just go with some modern gauges instead.

Man, your two project cars are childhood dreams of mine. I love basically anything Shelby and the El Camino has a special place in my heart because it brings back good memories of my dad and grandpaw.
By reilo Go To PostI don't see it. I do however see the Lincoln in the back of the new A8.
That's an Audi A6 with the grill cut in half
Aside from Tesla, you've got other companies like Ariel, NextEV/NIO, and Rimac who are making a huge push in performance and handling with these electric cars. The NIO EP9 broke the lap record at Nurburgring a few months ago. Rimac showed that electric will be ruling pikes peak in a few years with the E-Runner. Ariel's next track beast, tentatively named Hipercar, is already boasting 0-100 MPH in 3.8. These are all new kids on the block compared to the more established automotive companies out there. It will soon be cheaper to build, buy, and maintain an electric car than it will be for a petrol vehicle. I give gas powered cars 10-15 more years before they are just a novelty and only being built/restored/worked on by specialized body/performance/boutique shops that only the upper middle class and above will only be able to enjoy.
That's not even the end of it. Probably 2 decades after that it will probably be illegal to drive your own car on the interstate or other high traffic roads due to autonomous cars. There are more and more young people who don't care for driving and would rather just be taxied around rather than fool with having to manage a car. There are people I work with who can't wait to just be able to commute to work and home while being able to relax during the trip or maybe even take a nap. At that point people will probably get some sort of kick back for turning in their traditional vehicles for autonomous vehicles OR they will be afforded the opportunity to drive their cars on closed road tracks for recreation.
The end is coming for car lovers. But we'll all be kind of old by then. Hell I'll probably be in my 70's or 80's if I can make it that far.

By TTG Go To PostIt's not coming out tomorrow, why wouldn't the battery tech be much improved by 2020? Model 3 already uses a denser, more efficient set up than the Model S. It's gonna be heavy, but it's not out to lap gran prix tracks faster than the Aston Martin/Red Bull or the Mercedes AMG thing. Something tells me if this had a Porsche badge you guys would be dancing in the streets, instead you want to see the receipts on curb weight and brakes of a prototype. Look at those numbers, be merry, lol.Because as of right now, you can't drive a Tesla spiritedly for any extended period of time without it going into limp mode, mostly due to cooling issues.
If drag racing is your thing, then this is neat. If driving sporty cars on your favorite backroads and tracks is your thing, then it automatically generates skepticism because it doesn't seen clear they have addressed any of those concerns for the average enthusiast.
So those numbers are impressive, but assuming things are relatively similar to how they are now, then it's a gimmick to create the illusion of performance, just like the Model S and X.

Fuck, you guys. For $79k, the M4 with ZCP that fixes a ton of its issues might be a good deal D:

I read that as "Fuck you guys!" Must be a bmw thing. It's a gorgeous color, but maybe not on that car. I've seen it on the road and you hardly notice it somehow.
I would have to see the color in person, but it looks similar to the Imola Blue I have on my M3 Coupe right now in the website's pictures.
It's a really dark blue, but not with a lot of depth. Eats up the lines and makes the whole thing look generic somehow. Probably because the silhouette on an m4 isn't so outstanding. At least that's what I think it was, I didn't stop the driver to ask him what his paint code was. The m4 is a great looking car, you would think it's too big, but it's really not aesthetically in person.

The answer would be a Hellcat widebody. Those look nothing like a rental car and have better handling due to the wider rubber. Here look, I even found you one for sale! https://www.edmunds.com/dodge/challenger/2018/vin/2C3CDZC96JH121696/
Saw a Civic Type R in person for the first time today. Ugh, overwrought doesn't begin to cover it. Even with black covering up some of the more egregious random wings everywhere it's just stanced weird and it looks... I don't know how to describe it. Puffy, like a modern civic that got stung by a bunch of bees and swelled up everywhere. And I usually like widebody stuff, so I don't know what to think about it.
On the other side, I saw an 18 CRV Touring today and those look an order of magnitude better in person. Which is usually how Honda does it (bizarrely shit press photos, looks good when you actually see one.)
Also wound a big chunk of industrial saran wrap stuff around the passenger side front wheel today. That was "fun" to peel off. Fortunately no damage done. Only thing I can figure is I didn't spot it driving because it's been raining a bunch.

So just be aware that others might perceive it as a shot across the belly given the toxic political climate and the discussion at hand (Tesla, etc) that can draw easy parallels to such things.
I honestly don't mind the banter and my intention is not to stifle your posting style (just ask Alpha and our arguments from years past), but there's better jokes to be made.

Tesla is the Apple of the car world right now. But pretty soon you're going to have more enthusiast companies such as Ariel, Rimac, and NextEV who will or already are showing the capabilities of electric on a winding track. Following them will be your bigger entities Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren doing full electric sports cars... And then you'll finally get sporty electric cars trickling down to the mass market with Chevy, Ford, and whatever else. Until then Tesla is going to ham it up with their stats for people to regurgitate.
At the same time though... there are already electric cars out there who crush petrol cars on the track. They just aren't named Tesla. But only the mega wealthy can enjoy that right now. That won't be the case within the next 3 to 5 years though. Then there won't be any skepticism. Just a hard look at the reality of petrol cars starting to be pushed out of motor sports. Then eventually you'll have plenty of people enjoying the same technology around back roads and tracks.
I'm really holding out on further advancements in electric. But if other companies don't hurry up, me and the wife will be picking up a that Model X for a family/friend hauler.
On another note. I don't think very many generation z people and millennials even care what celebrities drive. They just want something to get them from point "a" to point "b."

It looks like something that was made for people who like xtreme gamer-centric PC peripherals and cases. I don't think it looks bad, but it definitely isn't even my style. This is coming from a guy who loves GTE and GT3 racecars. It's just too much going on and I don't think most the things on the car are even functional. Hell, if I remember I think most of those "vents/grills" are just fake.
The other day after lunch my wife actually mistook a Civic R for a Lamborghini when we were waiting for the valet to come back with our car. I just laughed. My wife isn't into cars at all other than really wanting a El Camino for some weird reason.

I saw a white McLaren last night in Temecula. I wonder if it could have been the same guy. It looked as if he was either coming back from Palm Springs or maybe from the Irvine/Orange County direction from the Ortega route. There was a red Ferrari with him as well but I think it was a 458 Spider. I didn't get a good look, but it had an older gent with some nice silvery hair driving it. I creeped behind them in my F-Type. I wonder if it was the same one you saw. It was the first McLaren I've seen here in this town.
Edit: I think it was a 650 not a 720.
Well that would answer that.

What's a good website to look at different automotive paint. I'm trying to decide on color for this project, but I can't find a website that gives you a full list of colors out there. I don't know anything about automotive painting so Im probably not googling right. I'm just wondering if anyone who does custom work on cars have a place they go to for color ideas.
Right now I'm looking at painting the Daytona in Porsche's crayon/chalk with grigio telesto as an accent color. I want to really modernize the car and I feel paint plays a major part in that. I don't want a color so loud that it will take away from the workmanship of the car or a color so dark that you can't see the lines of the car. I do want the brake calipers to pop. I was thinking either a bronze/copper, gold, lava orange, or maybe even a light blue.

What I meant to say is that most websites I have visited don't have a wide variety of colors I can look at. I know it's not idealistic to look at paint on a computer screen, but at least I could get an idea of what to look for without having to get up and go to a paint shop. I'm going to have to go to a paint shop for a face to face visual.
I’ve seen a few GT350s and only one R. The sound they make is violent yet beautiful. There’s a zl1 I see in San Mateo all the time too but it’s always parked.

You could hear GT350s coming from blocks away, that sound is crazy.
By TTG Go To PostLA area, car culture here is something else. BMW must sell 80% of their M6s here annually, but it's really all over the place.
Interesting. I'd have thought you'd see more GT350's in a place like SoCal. On the other hand, I don't think I've ever seen an M6 in the wild yet... at least not the new ones. I see a ton of 3/4/5 but I don't remember seeing a 6 specifically.

Dooooo it.
I still want one myself and if I had a short commute to work I'd probably have gone for it lol.
I've watched a couple of GT350 review videos in the past couple of days and I've yet to see one where someone walked away unimpressed with the way that it drives and sounds. It is a legitimately good sports car / track car and easily the best overall Mustang that Ford's ever produced.
As a guy who started out with a Mustang and has owned a couple of them I'm pleased to see that it turned out so well but I also know there's a ton of room for improvement in that car. Orange peel paint is a common complaint as are bad panel gaps and trim misalignment. And then there's that fairly low rent interior and the fact that all Mustangs still have a weight problem. It's great as is but it could so easily be so much better.
Overall I'm not sure what to think about the GT350. It's not a car that I could ever see fitting in to my current lifestyle but on the other hand I'm glad it exists and I hope Ford continues to improve on it in the years to come. Once I get to the point where I start test driving some stuff for my next car I will definitely give it a look just to say that I have experienced it at least once.

The front on the green one makes it look really weird and empty. But in grey, like a Miata.
I don't quite like the front end. And they also tried to mimic an F-Type rear end and side-profile.

Yeah, jury's out on the new DB11. Like the rear end, probably dig the profile. Front is (probably a strange thing to say coming from me) a little plain.
Speaking of the Mustang being a total LA car,
I wanted to check out a GT350 when I bought my last car, but around here they're all marked up to 85-90K which is absurd. 55-60K I could have done but that's just out of the question. Probably still would have gotten discounted for interior quality reasons though.

Vantage looks pretty good, not a fan of the yellow on it though, or the painted diffuser. Not as beautiful as the DB10 or DB11 to me, but I can definitely see the influence of the DB10.
Wow! You're really going all out on the Daytona huh? I think the Coyote V8 is a good choice, an LS just wouldn't seem right in a Shelby. Also Ringbrothers working on it is really cool. They've done some amazing builds. Definitely post updates, I want to see more.
By Rayge Go To PostAfter this Daytona and El Camino get finished, I'll be buying electric only. Electric motors destroy combustion engines. My wife will probably be getting the Model X or it's equivalent whenever we take the plunge. Might even give up my mighty Scion Tc for a Model 3… if that situation ever fixes itself. Gas powered cars will soon become a novelty. By 2040-2050 they'll be banned on the open road most likely.

The Vantage looks like the Vulcan's little brother. I think it look s pretty good. Wonder how long until they show a v12 trim... If they ever show one.
If they accept me as a client I will. It will also be 2 to 3 years at least before this is completed. They are interested because it something different. Im still waiting to hear back on what they want me to remove from the chassis so I can forward it up to Superformance. I'm talking to other shops as well for quotes and how they will work on the project, but I love the Ringbrother styling.

The color of the new Vantage really changes my perception of it, lol. I really like it in that dark metallic grey.
And wow at that interior, did not expect that. They are really gunning for the AMG GT crowd, it seems.
From certain angles it looks astounding, but from others it kinda looks like a mix between that Supra concept and the DB11.

The V8 Vantage is gonna be "less than $150,000" when it goes on sale. What did the old one retail for?

It's those crappy headlights, I don't know what made them do that, but wow are they bad. I'm generally not a fan of body colored rear diffusers and mesh grills in colors other than black either, but you can probably spec that out. I guess I'll wait to see it in person, but this isn't going into the pantheon of great design. Why is it so aggressive anyway? It's an Aston, you don't have to pretend to be fast.
Best looking coupes on sale:
1. Maserati. It's been like 15 years, still amazing. Bruce Wayne should have been driving that all along.
2. Corvette, skip the aero packages.
3. Big Barge Lexus. Saw one the other day, it was sexy. And yes, a senior citizen was driving it.
4. Mercedes AMG GT. A little toy car ish in base trim, no other complaints.
5. This Aston's bigger brother.
