By KingGondo Go To PostI've read things to the contrary re: Alfa.

Yikes
Consumer Reports’ Alfa has been to the dealer service bay three times since they bought it. The UK’s Sunday Times had three Giulias crap out on them. Forums abound with reliability issues. Pistonheads had an Alfa Giulia break down in the middle of a test against a Mercedes and a BMW. Motor Trend’s Alfa was completely defeated by a normal driveway. Car and Driver said that their Giulia suffered “foibles.”
And perhaps most damning of all, Road & Track’s Sam Smith said sister mag Car and Driver actually has “an in-house code reader all but earmarked for Alfas, and every test Giulia they’ve seen has had problems.”
Why are the auto testers rating this thing highly if it's falling apart during the testing
lol damn, nevermind then

I've heard grumblings, but I assumed it was isolated to the Cali press cars. Seems like it's way more widespread than that, unfortunately.
That sucks. Maybe they'll get better in the next few years with some updates. Most of the issues sound computer related.

Because fanboys gonna fanboy no matter the profession.
The list is called best Driver's Car not Best Grocery Getting car. Besides, when was the last time the major driving publications didn't gush about another boring ass Camry? Never? Oh, okay. Fanboys gonna fanboy.

That's an issue for a "drivers car" as well. This metric isn't just reserved for daily drivers.
Right, but they're not burying the news. A car can be "great to drive" (which is what they're talking about) and "unreliable". Both conditions can exist.
So when someone says "why do they love these cars?" it's because they loved to drive them. If they had to own them? Well, hard to get that in a weekend review. That's what Consumer Reports is for!

So that one review was for Driver's cars, but my general comments applied to more. If that wasn't clear I apologize.

You might think we’ve gone off the deep end, that the Alfa has tied one thigh-high around our eyes. You’re expecting us to come to our senses and realize that the Alfa’s wiles are only a distraction from the sort of flaws common to semi-exotic Italian cars. We must be excusing curiosities such as an odd or nonfunctional infotainment system, questionable build quality, or worse because we’re blinded by the sedan’s sparkling performance and looks. We couldn’t be more surprised to declare (for the most part) a great big “nope” to all that.

or worse because we’re blinded by the sedan’s sparkling performance and looks. They're not hiding anything from you. They are flat out telling you why (the experience), you just think it's about a pros-cons list, when it's not. No reviewer operates that way.
Mang, they absolutely said the build quality was good. Putting that disclaimer is doesn't really change much. Especially when it's found out they've had build issues with each test vehicle. Like ... give a 4.5 star lol give me something.
Interesting, so the reason we see 48-volt systems en-masse now is because it's a cheap way to replace your diesel cars without adding in costs:
By quadrupling the 12-volt standard in conventional car electrics and allowing a beefed-up starter motor to feed extra power to the drivetrain, complementing the combustion engine, carmakers can transform petrol cars into mild hybrids without redesigning the vehicle's architecture and factory tooling.
The motor delivers a noticeable torque boost and recovers braking energy to recharge a battery — smaller and cheaper than those required by electric cars or "full" hybrids such as Toyota's Prius, which typically run at 100-300 volts. Total manufacturing cost comes in 500-1,000 euros ($600-$1,200) below an equivalent diesel.
"It's the most interesting enabling technology and will comfortably replace diesel," said Evercore ISI analyst Arndt Ellinghorst. "It can do the job, and it's already cheaper — you don't have to be an early adopter to buy one."
The headache is compounded by the decline of diesels, which emit 15-20 percent less CO2 than petrol alternatives. Fortunately, 48V hybrids deliver savings in the same bracket.
Their simplicity also lets carmakers adjust their fleet emissions on shorter lead times than typically required to redevelop a drivetrain, which may help to avoid stiff EU fines of 95 euros per excess gram of CO2, per vehicle sold.
At launch, the XC40 will come in a T5 Momentum all-wheel-drive variant. That model starts at $35,200 and comes with a turbocharged inline-four. Later in 2018, a $33,200 front-wheel-drive model will hit showrooms.Wow, Volvo knocked it out of the fucking park. That's a great looking crossover.
Yeah that looks wonderful. I really like the XC90. Go price one though. I'm not sure I've seen such a variation between base model and fully loaded, ever. lol Maybe the Jeep Grand Cherokee with the RT version ...
Really curious what the new Ford Bronco that was just confirmed will look like.

But no Bluetooth or USB Audio? LOL

This is beautiful
Yeah, increasingly thinking that my next car will either be a Jag or a Volvo. Although the updated Golf R is tempting too.
Then again, I still love my GTI and it's easily affordable so I really shouldn't be looking.

Nah ... no reason to not include FM. Especially with the HD versions out there. What a shitfest that is. No joke I would cancel my order.

They are only going for like 20K GBP which in my currency if only 22.5K. If I was to wait it would be for the Next R cause there is rumbling of something special on the way.

Gorgeous little Volvo. Rear taillights are nice, but they look like bigger versions of the Nissan Juke heheh

Only issues have been a few annoying rattles that I eventually managed to find and fix.
The new dash display is a big reason I want a 2018 Golf R. I'm a sucker for stuff like that. It also just sounds so mean compared to the GTI.

08 335i
117k miles
Would be going down to one car, my 2013 Accord Coupe V6 (the family car!) . Has maybe 55k miles on it.
Bunch of stuff needs to be taken care of on the 335i. It literally cut off of on me 2x randomly the other day, luckily I wasn't on the highway , but rather a parking lot. No check engine light or anything is on.
Need front tires.
Pretty much over it. I don't have a payment , that's really only reason I still have it and it does run outside of the stunt that happened in the lot.
I feel like I should punt it before a check engine light comes on lol
I’m pretty indifferent to Ring times, but I don’t deny it’s fascinating when Porsche get their 911 into race car territory with sub-7 minute runs. Witchcraft.

You could be rocking a Panamera now with a Ftype as a weekend car while living in the hills , and you wanna come at me.
I only want the best for my people
By reilo Go To PostWho says I can't rock the F-Type and garage my M3 this time next year while living in SF?
It's SF
Nobody drives in SF, you mentioned you barely drive the M3.
Live like a boss in Hill Country. I saw some of everything last weekend. NSX, McLaren's, Phantoms. Brehs living good in the hills down here with no state income tax. It could be you fam.
My salary ceiling would be so much lower in Austin, especially long-term. And I'm content taking public transit/being able to walk everywhere. Cars are toys to me these days: ridiculously expensive, sheltered and pampered toys. I don't care about needing another daily ever again.
Honestly, my next large auto purchase will be a boat. Cruising newport harbor or water skiiing lake mead. Maybe a 23' deck boat. Got to relocate into orange country and get my promotion first tho lol
I saw one the other day. They're ugly as sin (so is the non convertible evo IMO), but I'll be honest. I like driving around with a top down.

Get a 991 S/4S. They can baby. Same with the 997, it's just a bit more crammed in the back. No big deal for any kid under 12 tho. Wife has her eyes set on a 997 C4S after spending some time in Porsches lately. Maybe in a few years.
Also came upon the TT recently, despite being generally anti-Audi. A local pal has a TTRS that he dailys. Carseat + two dogs in the back thanks to the folding seat and hatch. The Mk2 can be had for not much. Makes an excellent commuter, very capable. Definitely not going to be on par with your E93 in terms of feel.
You and Relio are kind of screwed in that your main car right now was basically the pinnacle of BMW design before they tried to chase Audi and make all their cars feel like shit. Not much out there these days can really compare, so you're gonna feel a bit disappointed when you test drive most things that are not Porsche. Not like 0-60 times and stupid high HP even matter for a daily/fun car, unless you spend time at the track.
