Modern BMWs are such shit. The new 5-series is an awful boat. I'm glad the F10 M5 went out on such a high note. I'd love to find one in a 6MT, which are rare, but can be had. I saw one about 600 miles away on AutoTrader.

This x10, sat in the new 5 and I hated it.
Dammit. I'm already thirsty for the refreshed Golf R.
Need to hold off but assuming my new job goes well I could see getting one next year. Timing might work out better to wait for the 2019 model year.

You move out of Houston?
Get a 991 S/4S. They can baby. Same with the 997, it's just a bit more crammed in the back. No big deal for any kid under 12 tho. Wife has her eyes set on a 997 C4S after spending some time in Porsches lately. Maybe in a few years.
Also came upon the TT recently, despite being generally anti-Audi. A local pal has a TTRS that he dailys. Carseat + two dogs in the back thanks to the folding seat and hatch. The Mk2 can be had for not much. Makes an excellent commuter, very capable. Definitely not going to be on par with your E93 in terms of feel.
You and Relio are kind of screwed in that your main car right now was basically the pinnacle of BMW design before they tried to chase Audi and make all their cars feel like shit. Not much out there these days can really compare, so you're gonna feel a bit disappointed when you test drive most things that are not Porsche. Not like 0-60 times and stupid high HP even matter for a daily/fun car, unless you spend time at the track.
I'm still in Houston.
I just got my car back from shop and it feels great. I need to get 2 new front tires (Pilot Sport A/S 3) which is like $400 when it's all said and done after install. Got her washed and prettied up. Looking brand new . I spent about $1,000 to get 3 things done, but it's better than a fucking full length car note. At least that's what I tell myself.
I'm REALLY not trying to catch another car payment. Unless the engine or transmission goes or something severe like that.
LOL Smokey still on that same nonsense - "I want this, but don't want to pay for it". Breh, it's been 3+ years. Take the plunge.
Buy a new fucking whip.
Buy a new fucking whip.
Alpha remembers me bitching about my last car before I got the M3. Do it, m8.
Btw, why not lease with an option to buy? You can lease a new E-Class for under $500/mo.

I feel like leasing to buy is the worst option out of all the options made available. If he can afford a 65K car he can afford to save 20K to put down and pay 500-600 a month to own without leasing. If you're going to lease just keep trading the thing in every 2-3 years for a new hotter version.

Iono I kind of don't believe in leasing tbh lol. Buy your shit. Also mileage that comes along with leasing and Houston don't seem to fit well together.

Just gotta figure out how much you actually drive and pay for those miles up front in your lease. Going over is where you really get "dinged". There's merit to being in a constant lease agreement every 3 years. You'll never pay for tires. You probably won't have to cover breaks. All service for those 3 years is generally covered. Your payments are similar or less than paying to own. You get to cycle out to the new hotness every three years.
Insurance is more and you have to worry about mileage and dings. You'll never have the value of a depreciating asset (may or may not matter depending on time).

Don't disagree with any of those things at all. Especially the maintenance part. Just personally I like to get to a point where I can say I own it vs the constant cycle of a payment. Nothing against people who prefer that tho, just like I prefer to purchase.
Maybe it's because the cars im interested in would be easy $1,000+ a month and I ain't about it right now lol. Shit the note on my 335i wasnt too far away from that. Not in a rush to go back.

Hahaha you were in the same boat, practically. And I kept telling you that you're asking for catastrophic failure in your MS6 that's not even worth fixing.
And so it happened. Blown turbos and all sorts of shit. You got pennies for that whip on trade. LOL.
I did, shit was dumb. And it happened right after my extended warranty lapsed with just 60,000 miles on the car.
Just playing around on Mercedes site, with the same DP of around 10G, the 5 year loan payment is only $100 more than the 3 year lease for an E63 AMG.
I could be wrong, but taxes will be cheaper on the lease and calculated into the monthly payment rather than a lump sum up front because you’ll be paying taxes on the residual value over the lease term not final sales price.

Didn't know that. Insurance will be more though so it seems like not as big a difference as I was expecting. Some of those lease deals on the lower end 3 series are fucking ridiculously good for comparisons sake.

I remember seeing some shit like $199 on a 320i .
Yea exactly. When I priced out the F-Type for lease versus buy, it was a $250/mo difference and that includes taxes factored into the lease and not the purchase. And let me tell you, lump sum taxes up front at those prices is LOL I am not trying got buy a house. And there were better lease offers later — much better.
And like I said if you like the car in 3 years time? Buy it for cheap because you’ll get a better deal than others I imagine.

That's the dirt cheap kinda leasing deal I'm thinking of. Most people giveth no fucks if it's the 320, 328 or 335 too. It's a BMW 3 series and I'm only paying slightly more than that VW jetta.
And this is to say, you should buy new if it’s right. I saw fully loaded 2016 F-Type Rs (yes the V8 model) for the same price brand new as 2017 F-Type V6s. They were easily $15k under MSRP Of the base model. I showed Alpha, he can attest to this.
If you’re buying new, wait for next year’s inventory to come through.

$199/mo for a lease is what Toyota offers you for a Prius when their lease offers are good. That’s dumb good for a 3-series even if it’s entry level 320i.
I’ve seen 335is lease for $500/mo, so...

Just took a look and 320i is going for $279 leased. Is there a place to check historical lease numbers? I don't remember when I saw $199, but it was some time ago. Or I could be confusing it with something else, but I distinctly remember seeing a really low lease number on a BMW commerical and let out a WTF.
It’s possible. Lease values aren’t static and they change all the time when manufacturers wanna clear inventory.
Edmunds Forums have guys posting numbers all the time.

What's wrong with the new 5 ? I haven't deep dived into any reviews tbh
Looked like a mini 7 which I was cool with. No different than E looking like a mini S now.
By Smokey Go To PostWhat's wrong with the new 5 ? I haven't deep dived into any reviews tbhThat's precisely what's wrong with it. It's even based on the 7 series platform. Drives like a floaty, disconnected, overweight POS. I felt that way about the F10, and the new one is even worse.

They're trying to take the Audi route, and in doing so, have destroyed what makes a BMW a BMW. Ultimate Driving Machine no more.
^^^ Bingo.
The only capable performer in the mid-size segment is basically the Jag XF. It's the only car true 5-series purists would ideally want to be driving, even if it does lack some of the crazy and pointless gadgetry of the BMW or Merc. Although, a hat tip to the Infiniti Q70, which is a super tight when equipped with the sports package like mine had.

I mean...I accepted some time ago that a M is where you go for any semblance of that nowadays from BMW. And even there it's not quite like it used to be, but that's your best option.
By Smokey Go To PostI mean…I accepted some time ago that a M is where you go for any semblance of that nowadays from BMW. And even there it's not quite like it used to be, but that's your best option.GM and Ford make better drivers cars than the M3/M4/M5. Camaro, Mustang 350, ATS, Vette, SS sedan. One could argue that Jag is also filling that niche, but they have an unfortunate lack of manuals. If I wanted a posh interior with a stupid powerful engine and meh chassis/steering, I'll take an AMG over a Bimmer at this point.
Really, I think the best option is buying good used examples of the cars that were still great. After a year of driving the M5, I realized how I don't really benefit or use fancy features on new cars. I'd rather take my M5 on a road trip than my RAM with all the fancy goodies, or my old man's F10 M-Sport 535. Beyond all that, you get driving experiences that are fundamentally better while paying a stupidly low (by comparison) amount.
Gimmie a stick, cruise control, heated seats, cold blowing AC, an interior with quality materials, and that pretty much satisfies my need for creature comforts. All the other shit is just noise people convince themselves they need. If you want 90% of it, get an aftermarket stereo with android auto. Good to go.
By AlphaSnacks Go To Post^^^ Bingo. The non-steer-by-wire Infinitis are really something. Definitely still miss my EX35 frequently.

@AlphaSnacks
The Jag lineup, and the "good" new models post-China purchase are a bit foreign to me. But, basically, what I'm curious about is whether or not there's anything in the lineup that would be around $25k used that you would suggest.
We're trading in our Diesel as the wife has cut back severely on riding since baby was born, looking it replace it with a good daily, and to cut monthly payments by 1/3. Right now, the shortlist is the E84 X1 M-Sport (last BMW made with hydraulic steering!), or low mileage E90 sedan/wagon. She's currently obsessed with a Challenger SRT8 she found in "Furious Fuchsia", but I'm pretty sure she'll get over it when she goes to test drive it.
Optimal: seating for 2 adults + 1 car seat, with a hatch/wagon style rear for dogs on long trips, and AWD would be nice but not necessary. We can certainly make most sedans work if the vehicle itself is worth the tradeoff in usability.
An interesting model. that ended up fitting the criteria was the TTS. Went to test drive it, and she hated it. She also wants nothing to do with a Golf R, or really anything from Volkswagen/Audi. It needs to be decently quick and fun to drive. WRX wagon is an obvious choice, but here in the NW, you end up paying more for a high mileage WRX than you do for a low mileage X1, so it loses that fight right away.
Once you hit your deductible, then it's satisfied for the year. On the off chance that you end up getting in another accident, then you would have met your deductible.
Orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Call insurance, change deductible to 250/500, then go get it fixed.
