"Got money to burn" more like it.
My least favorite part about car BMW ownership: dropping it off at a dealer in a big city. One of my airbags is a Takata airbag so I have no otheir choice, hopefully they don't treat me like a criminal this time around and I don't have to walk out again.
If you told me this was a McLaren F1 successor, I'd believe you. Looks fucking nice.
AMG says the car will accelerate to 112 MPH in under 6 seconds.wat
Would rather a Ford GT, honestly.
And like, why give us the 112MPH rating? Is that a standard target to hit? How do you compare that to anything?
And like, why give us the 112MPH rating? Is that a standard target to hit? How do you compare that to anything?
A modern supercar should hit 0-60 somewhere inbetween 2.5-3.5seconds. Doing 112mph in 6 seconds flat is insane.
0-100 is a more standard number. 0-112 is weird. I don't think those acceleration times are nearly as good as other hypercars (that is supposed to be $2.7M)
You'd be wrong:
And 112mph is 180km/h, so maybe that's the number they were shooting for.
The Chiron can accelerate from 0–97 km/h (60 mph) in 2.4 seconds according to the manufacturer, 0–200 km/h (120 mph) in 6.5 seconds and 0–300 km/h (190 mph) in 13.6 seconds
And 112mph is 180km/h, so maybe that's the number they were shooting for.
Was trying to compare it to 0-100 times from other hypercars that are usually low 5's.. shrug
Those flywheel systems are a nightmare to keep running on F1 cars i think, i dunno how much i would be willing to be an early adopter (lol like it matters to people that can afford that).

That makes sense I suppose. Still ... it's an odd frame of reference. 0-60, 0-100 and 0-120 are all standards I've seen and make a point of reference easier for comparisons sake. For reference the GT does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and costs 1/5th that price point lol.
I love the Ford GT and would absolutely rather pay for that (and rather pay for the upcoming GT500 over the GT), but that AMG has legit F1 car "features" that would be expensive as hell to make and support.
You don't give a flying fuck about reliability and maintenance when you're dropping $2.4mil on a hypercar. The likes of Mercedes-AMG go out of their way to make sure that whatever faults it has they'll fix, so it seems like a silly criterion to wage over when you're hyperrich.
Worrying about maintenance, reliability and long-term cost of ownership is for us plebs.

I will say that I would rather that AMG than the Chiron. Not even close. The Bugatti is basically a super rich mans drag car.
ok so let's update the list
i'm looking for a car. 20k is the most i want to spend. i have excellent credit. i'm probably going to put down a 5k downpayment. used or new is fine but i think i might prefer new. i dont want a car that's too big. any country of origin is fine at this point tell me some cars and tell me why you'd recommend them even if its a few words rather than me having strict guidelines.
kia, honda, toyota, ford, etc are all ok. i dont want a car thats bigger than a honda element/cr-v. a sedan, coupe, subcompact, compact, hatchback are all fine. i dont drive out of state often but this would be my only car so i might need to. my job likes to move management around. i only drive from one major highway to another currently as my main commute. nothing off-road.

Genesis G70 Officially Revealed As a Handsome BMW 3 Series Alternative
What 😂
Come on The Drive, I like you, but that's not a good looking car rofl

This Genesis is aping every car in multiple segments, my god.
Those headlights? Mazda6.
The corporate grill? Pseudo-Audi
Bottom pieces of the bumper? Art Deco BMW
Sills on the side fenders? BMW 5 Series
Taillights? 3-Series meets Honda Accord
And the interior? Even worse. Every single bit about the interior feels straight lifted from another car, like a weird hodge-podge of Mazda, BMW, Audi, and Jaguar, but all looking awfully cheap. This car feels like a Chinese knock-off that will pass NHTSA.

I mean ... it's a Hyundai and is cheaper than and Audi or a BMW. To many, "handsome alternative" is exactly what that is.
By Fenderputty Go To PostI mean … it's a Hyundai and is cheaper than and Audi or a BMW. To many, "handsome alternative" is exactly what that is.
It's not a Hyundai any more than a Lexus is a Toyota or Acura is a Honda.
It's a Genesis. Its own brand.
You should test drive one before you knock it. There's not a car review out there that doesn't do a 180 after initially giving it the side-eye.
Feels pretty good when I see people scoff at a "knock off" luxury car, yet you can dust pretty much anything on the road with it that isn't specifically designed with racing in mind. I was reading about the HTRAC tech before I bought one, and that's the kind of stuff that they put in supercars; it only makes sense that Lotus aided in its engineering. I can make the interior fit me like a bathtub or a glove, and the sound system makes those kids in the neighborhood with their speakers look foolish for such a petty investment. I never thought I'd be in such a quiet ride, either. I have nodded off a few times in the car because of its quietness and its "Lane Keeping Assist" might have saved the car, if not me too. Still have not stopped surfing message boards while driving, so it helps there too.
10/10 would purchase again.
I'm glad I got an older model because I'm not a fan of the Bentley-style grill on the front of the newer ones.
The grill is aweful but the car looks good from the side and rear perspectives. /shrug
It does look like a mashup BMW rip off though.

By Fenderputty Go To PostThe grill is aweful but the car looks good from the side and rear perspectives. /shrugThe designers come from BMW, Audi, and Porsche. Makes sense. The guy that is heading the N division is the ex-head of BMW's M division. The Stinger GT and the G70 was the first big product from the group, from what I understand. I think it looks pretty great, but that front end is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too busy. Looks better with a subdued color, IMO.

All of these cars are so insanely powerful that it makes it nearly impossible to put the power down without heavy electronic control of every aspect of it. Launch control is a neat gimmick the few times you use it to impress people or when you first buy the car, but it doesn't really play into its existence as a track toy, or even when cruising canyons/mountain roads.
With how much power *all* cars are putting out these days, I'd love it if we switched 0-60 to like, 40-100 or 50-80 as the ultimate standard test. Far more usable from a practical sense as well, as that's what you do to pass people on a 2 lane road.
In other news, I went to the Oregon Festival of Cars this weekend, was a neat event at a local golf resort. Tons of great cars, and a local guy came with his two RWBs, heavily modded Murcielago, Ultima GTR, and 430 Scuderia.
Part of the festival was a dash/rally yesterday though some canyons and mountains, which was absolutely incredible. https://www.instagram.com/p/BZKFiQvBT00/?taken-by=zfzmikey

Porsche is plugging in: the Porsche Mission E, the all-electric four-door sports car concept that caused such a stir at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show, is entering the latter stages of development before sales start in 2019.Going hard after Tesla.
Chairman Oliver Blume updated CAR on many of the key details of the project, including plenty of new nuggets:
On sale by end of 2019
Designed to plug gap between Panamera and 911
Electric-only powertrain, no combustion engines
Different power output motors will be offered
Badges 'likely' to follow conventional Porsche hierarchy (S, GTS etc)
Porsche Mission E 'priced like entry-level Panamera'
Different bodystyles possible in longer run
By reilo Go To PostGoing hard after Tesla.
Are they doing their own batter tech? Seems like they're working with Hitachi? Are they putting in nationwide infrastructure to support an EV model? The're a decade or more behind lol
If car manufacturers try and "one up" Tesla and in doing so create a disjointed power distribution network I'm going to be pissed lol.
Pretty sure all public charging stations have their own plug you use to charge your EV with. Tesla even offers an adapter for your car to make it usable with public charging stations so I doubt Porsche will go without a charging adapter (or better yet they will stick to a standard). The fact that Tesla is the one that's utilizing a proprietary plug and has to provide an adapter to work with standard charging stations is more of the concern.
EDIT: Looks like you can buy an adapter to charge at Tesla stations as well:
EDIT: Looks like you can buy an adapter to charge at Tesla stations as well:
Here’s a controversial new electric car accessory, the JDapter Stub (Tesla Charge Station Adaptor), which allows owners of non-Tesla electric cars, like the BMW i3 or the Nissan Leaf, to charge at Tesla’s public Destination Chargers or using the Tesla Wall Connector. So, sounds like manufacturers need to come together and agree to a standard.
Like Tesla’s Supercharger, the lower-powered Destination Chargers also use Tesla’s proprietary connector, which made them unavailable to other vehicles.

They're kinda setting the trend, so is it really a shock they're using their own plug? It's like Sony with Blu Ray and the PS3 being the mechanism to make it market standard.
Maybe I'm just confusing things, but I'm pretty sure the commodity charging stations aren't the stations that will charge those Porsche batteries to full in 15 minutes. That's the equivalent of the Tesla super charger. So unless I'm missing something, Porsche is advertising a spec that's almost useless until they build the infrastructure that Tesla has built over a decade.

Ok ... this is what I was hoping for ....
Yes ... this shit needs to be standardized to hell and back lol.
Sony wasn't the sole owner of Blu-Ray. They were part of a consortium that included some other heavy hitters and they came to the standard together. There just happened to be another consortium backing HD-DVD at the time, which is now gone. There's a Blu-Ray Disc Association today that has basically all of the major players and they continue to fund the Blu-Ray "standard".
Tesla having their own proprietary charger is more like to Apple going with "Lightning USB" instead of USB-C cable. Car manufacturers need to come together on a USB-C type format.

Meh ... I'm not here to argue semantics with you lol. You got my gist. They're leading the charge.
I'm more concerned with companies not fucking consumers over. If adapters are being made, then that's good. That Porsche looks gorgeous. I would imagine they'll have to come up with national infrastructure though. Part of their tech is charging without a connection. Which would require charging pads to drive over.

The best part of this package is its asking price: $71,295. Very nearly anything else operating in this performance stratum is easily two or three times costlier; the next closest performer is a Corvette Z06 with the Z07 package, and even that performance value costs about $20,000 more. Just don’t tell Chevy’s accounting department it could charge a lot more for this track animal, okay?
