Here's a recommendation. If anyone liked Great Teacher Onizuka give Grand Blue a try. Absurdly funny and stupid.
I finished Rough a few years ago. It was alright, but I think H2, Katsu!, and Cross Game was much better.

@Retro, you might be right. I can't really relate to any of the characters. I went to an old noys catholic school so never really dealt with any of that shit growing up during those impressionable years.
Maybe he went got send to jail.
I guess i just wanted them all to have a happy ending.
BTW, what did you make of the anal scene?
I was pretty shocked by it and feel like he basically did it without consent.
I also don't know what to make up of his own anal fun, I kinda felt like afterwards that maybe he was fantasising about his own brother doing it.
Cool.

Cool.

I am up for whatever gets the most people involved.
I want to read Rough because Zabo likes it, but I think it will be cool to read something that a few people are into following along with.
By Arsenal x Juventus Go To PostI am up for whatever gets the most people involved. There's only 7 chapters in Grand Blue, so it's pretty short (ongoing).

I've read a few Asako Inio's works too, but... I like them though his recent ones get pretty depressing. Usually I then reread some hilarious mangas as palate cleansers after reading his works.

Yeah idk. I didn't read much into the specific acts outside of them experimenting with everything.
I thought Asano did a great job at depicting the acts without making them explicit. but yeah I didn't really pick up on any specific thoughts or any points where consent came into question

Yeah I understand that lol. Goodnight Punpun is probably the most emotionally exhausting piece of fiction I've ever consumed. (and I love it for that)
I think his latest work is really light though. At least so far.
By Retro Go To PostI'll pass on RoughAbsolutely disgusting.
I've seen Cross Game and I'm not really a fan
I'll join in on Rough. A re-read is long overdue. 3 volumes per week is fine by me.
If you like Rough, and isn't familar with the Author's work give the rest a try.
Mitsuru Adachi's works are... all are pretty much the same to be honest, but very well written, panelled, and a nice read on a rainy day.

Just finished Volume 1. Seems pretty cool. I like the karate-basketball kid joining the swimming club.
Just ordered Solanin by Asano.

Gonna see how I find Rough and then will try to work my way through his other works if I enjoy it. Like i now plan to do with Asano

The first chapter/episode is really good.
But it's just not my type of series. I found the last arc really weird, with everyone just kind of projecting their repressed feelings for Wakaba onto Akane and she's just cool with that I guess.
I am really enjoying it so far.
I like the introduction of all the characters in chapter 1 and starting to see everyone's motivation in the rest of volume 1.
Volume 2's date was quality. Really enjoyed it.
Volume 3 was fun, too. Starting to feel for Ogata.
I also received my physical version of Solanin. Looking forward to starting it. She looks exactly the same as the main character from Girl By the shore. I guess Asano had a high school cruah that looked like that or something lol.

I finished volume 4.
I really like how Keisuke tries to be mr cool guy and then is trying to have flashbacks about seeing the girl.
I also like the breaking of the fourth wall here and there.
The five boys are such a bunch of badarses. I love that they fuck up the five karate guys

By Zabojnik Go To PostGonna start on it tomorrow, Shanks. Where are you getting it from?
An app on my iPad. Manga reader
The film is release out today, excited to go see it after how well 君の名は do commercially and critically.
I suggest for you to read this if you have not yet since the movie is it. It is a pretty short and really good series, I am reading a little to catch up before the showing.

I've seen the manga "A Silent Voice" on the shelves here in the states. Didn't know it was supposed to be good.
It's about a girl who is deaf that is struggling to find a place in the world for her, and a boy who bullied her throughout her childhood, now trying to atone for his bullying and help her find a reason to live. Outside of the two main characters, you have a supporting cast that deals with a disabled classmate and society differently, by bulling, kissing ass, etc.
It's a series that shows how really shitty both children and adult can be to each other and those with disabilities and how a deaf person sees the world. It also has some points where it shows how good some people can be. All the characters have a flaw to them.
The film is going to be a full adaption of the 70~ish chapters this comic is, will say how I feel about it compare to the comic later in the day.

Shit, this sounds good. I was raised with a handicapped aunt (she's deaf and can't use her hands) and a sister that had development issues because she had a stroke when she was three. So I have seen first hand how bad society treats those with disabilities.
Hey I read a couple chapters of Rough but some family shit popped up. Which chapter should I be on by the end of this week?

Should be finishing up with volume 9 this week.
I need to post my views on volume 6 and 7 later.
Cool I will try and finish by the end of the week.
You guys interested in a comic book club? http://slaent.com/thread/870235/

I have been flying through the volumes. It really is an easy read with not much dialogue at times.
I will try and join in with the comic book club. I don't know much outside of a few batman and marvel characters, so it will be cool to see some new material.
By Arsenal x Juventus Go To PostFuck me i just cried tears of joy. Empire strikes back their declarations.I ... I don't get it.
By Zabojnik Go To PostI … I don't get it.
lol, sorry, i forgot to add like i didn't want to spoil anything
I read from 7 all the way to the end yesterday. I had hoped to only read to 9, but it was so good I just had to keep going.
I will add a spoiler for this.
The way they declared their love for each other reminded me of Empire Strikes Back. He just comes out with "I love you "and she follows it back with a "likewise." They both were act tough like Han and Leia and then come out with it nonchalantly, especially Ami/Han
That ending was great. I took it to mean he won the race, as she had said a few times that the one she has picked will be the winner. So even though we don't win it is pretty obvious what is meant to happen.
I really enjoyed the manga, I really liked the breaking of the fourth wall throughout it.
I really just couldn't stop reading the second half of the manga. I will give some more opinions at the end of the month when hopefully others have finished reading :)))
So try and finish up to volume 9 if you can this week, then can finish the remaining three volumes next week.
So I got to see the film adaption of A Silent Voice, shit made me cry it was a phenomenal adaptation.
So I recommend this to be your group read next. I already read it 2 years ago during its weekly publication, so I think it would be a nice pick up for this group since you can go through a volume a week.

Including how much breaking the 4th wall there is, haha. Adachi just makes it work. I love how he retcon'd that Nakanishi isn't an only child.
By Apollo Go To PostRough is a lot funnier than I expect. The innate ability to switch from lighthearted to melo inside a single page is one of the reasons why I love Adachi so much. <3
He also does a funny retcon in volume 11 or 12. When Seki realises she is a great skier when she told him she had never skied before.
What other mangas of his would you recommend? Is Touch good?

When Seki realises she is a great skier when she told him she had never skied before.Unless something's changed over the past 10-15 years, Touch is widely considered his best work. It's like Rough - every Adachi manga is, basically - but longer and about baseball, which has to be Adachi's favourite thing in life. It's more focused on the sports aspect than Rough (you'll see baseball games being covered for long stretches of the manga), but very similar thematically. Boy, girl, baseball, high school, the usual Adachi.

H2 is basically a reprise of sorts of Touch, Cross Game is also about baseball and so is Mix, his latest manga, which is a semi-sequel to Touch.
I really enjoyed the Short Program series, a collection of short stories from Adachi. SP and Touch are both good calls, if you want to read more.

I love baseball, but is the coverage of baseball actually interesting?
I might start Touch first.
I have been really pleased with this manga club so far, discovering two new works and the artist further. I have started Solanin, too.
Started Touch, after one volume I can tell I am gonna live it. I think I will read volume 2 now. Fuck, hope I get enough sleep before Juve/Sassuolo
Wow, read throught the whole of Touch. Really enjoyed it. Gonna have to read all his work now. I live how I reqlly don't know what the outcomes will be in his work. I was pumping my fist in some of the scenes as I was so delighted.
Yes Shanks!
Adachi is love, Adachi is life.
Had an absolute nightmare of a week in terms of free time (the lack thereof), gonna finish Rough by tomorrow for sure.

Ok, anyone still in this try and finish Rough this week.
As October is Halloween, I was thinking of a horror manga.
I only really know Jungi Ito so was thinking of Uzamaki or Tomie.
If anyone else has any other horror manga writers they recommend then please post.

Never read anything by Ito, so I'm down for that.
Finished Rough. <3 ;_; <3
I'm definitely gonna check out Adachi's newer stuff.

I think Uzumaki is 3 volumes, so should be a pretty good pace for anyone interested. I think Tomie is the same amount of volumes and I believe his first work that got published and made his name.
I'm on chapter 73 of Rough. Ogato is a great character for someone with little story time. The side characters are all great but he stands out.
I'll probably finish this tomorrow.

Yeah, such a great ending.
Ogata was one of my favourite characters. He loved her unconditionally and always had to spell things out for Keisuke.
[Rough spoilers]
Who do you think won though? It's kinda irrelevant to the love triangle conclusion, but still. My money is on Nakanishi. As good as Keisuke was getting, Nakanishi was still a fair bit ahead of him and got even better after the accident. As they say, fortunate in love ...

I think it was Keisuke who won. She said she is in love with the winner. He was the one she loved, so he is onbviously the winner.
