Can't remember how many Helium plants and mines I've come across that are identical. Like even the datapads are the exact same.
There are some unique POIs you can look out for but most are the same "Abandoned X/Y/Z" template. My current gameplay loop is visiting a new star system, go over all moons and planets with specified landing sites and only bother with the ones I haven't seen before.
Bethesda really dropped the ball with the dungeons. Cool places with fun environmental storytelling do exist, but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. Just makes me long for Fallout tbf. The grinding gets old real quick.
Another remiss is the lack of interesting places besides the POIs. It's all very much empty. A solar array here, helium tanks there. No real signs of human lived experience. Fallout will occasionally throw a amusingly placed skeleton at you with a note which triggers a small hidden quest. Or you stumble upon a mini boss somewhere in Skyrim. That's all gone.

Yeah in a game that is this huge and time consuming, expecting players to merely stumble upon the handcrafted stuff is silly.
In Todd’s defence, I get the feeling that they made this game with the expectation that people will be playing it for years.
It makes sense within that expectation to spread out the handcrafted content. Intersperse it within everything else so that someone isn’t going to see everything within their first playthrough. Give them reason to return and continue playing.
I don’t think they nailed that aspect tbf. Their Fallout and TES games really nailed exploration, there was always something interesting on the horizon. A random encounter, a dungeon, a pack of bandits/raiders. Anything really to break up the walking.
Skyfield really lacks that. The procedural generation just isn’t varied enough and what it generates isn’t interesting enough to make the exploration as enjoyable as it is in their previous games. There’s also little reward in exploring a planet’s POIs. Usually results in nothing or crafting material.

By Laboured Go To PostYeah in a game that is this huge and time consuming, expecting players to merely stumble upon the handcrafted stuff is silly. The Activities tab does a good job for the most part to point you in the right direction. Most sidequests and handcrafted places are put on the map through NPC conversations and random chatter and gossip on the street. It's surprisingly natural.
But there are only three major cities and once you've wrapped those up, there remains very little as far as rewarding exploration goes.
Really missing one or two late game hubs with possible companions or factions to extend the early game gameplay loop.

Enough
I think not having vehicles in this game is an insane decision. That is singlehandedly the biggest design flaw for me so far. Wouldn’t be so onerous going between copy and pasted stuff if you could get there quicker or without having to navigate menus/landing cut scenes. Just give me a fuckin buggy. Or a space horse. They were in skyrim m8, give me rideable aliens.
Planetside navigation is a chore. The updated fast travel mechanic is nice though. Pointing the hand scanner at the location beats having to enter a menu. Also the more lenient rules of when and where you can fast travel are a huge boon. Thank god you can fast travel to different planets pretty much instantaneous.
Freestar Ranger ✅
UC Vanguard ✅
UC Sysdef/Crimson Fleet ✅
Just finished up the Crimson Fleet. That was a good questline. The pirates were even likeable mostly, not that it stopped me from siding with Sysdef. The Key was wall to wall with red mist on my way out. I ran through that place like an autopilot Tesla through a pedestrian crossing.
It was the high point of the game for me. Those last two quests of exploring The Legacy ship, then on to a large dog fight and finishing off by clearing out The Key were just a great culmination of the most enjoyable parts of the game for me.

I somewhat enjoy being a narc too. Makes more sense for my character anyway. How did we ever lose to this fucking cowboy army? smh
Think I'm ready to wrap this up and start my second character: Ronin stealth melee going straight for that Ruyjin questline (Figure I need around 10 skill points before melee stealth is workable, so probably carry around a sidearm till then).

(I'd still recommend EXE for the fire effects tho)

When crafting why can't it just pull the resources from wherever I have them stored? Needing them on me is a pain in the arse
Doing the UC missions. Didn’t understand what I had to do with the terrormorph on first planet. Some weird power shit. Just shot it in the face lots instead.

how hard is it to have stairs animation anyway? jesus lol

Very.
By Hentai Samurai Go To Posthow hard is it to have stairs animation anyway? jesus lolReal talk? Extremely difficult. At least as difficult as characters opening doors. Inverse kinematics help, but it's not enough.

At least Todd gave us ladders and vaulting 😭
By n8 dogg Go To PostI was pressing them and nothing happeningI turned on the first one, then on my way to the second one, Sarah pulled it towards the lit alley and it died before I saw it. On very hard btw lol.

In TLOU1 in the Left Behind DLC they have a working escalator and the stair climbing foot placement both up and down on a moving escalator perfectly syncs no matter how you try to fuck around with it. I audibly gasped.

can't be THAT hard.
By HonestVapes Go To PostMGS2 also completely locks you into the animation for walking up/down stairs when you’re on them.I don't see the problem friend.
beats whatever funny shit is going on here.
Spent ages trying to disable a dudes ship so I could arrest him instead of killing him and when I finally do, the cunt kills himself as soon as I board his ship.

tho the Deep Recon and Pirate Sniper can look gud too.
Entangled was a a really fucking neat premise for a quest but the writing was pretty poor and at least two other games have done it better in the past 8 years.
Any and all reviews that talked up how polished Starfield is compared to Bethesda’s previous games was talking shit. Might be true for the first few hours but after that, shit’s been wild.
I had a glitch where Andreja’s whole head was invisible. Just the head. Body/clothes/hat were visible.
The physics bugs out sometimes if you enter targeting mode in a ship. If you exit it while the ship you’re locked on to goes past your FOV, your ship spins out of control.
I’ve got an activity quest to talk to Sarah Morgan. She’s brown bread, died 20+ hours ago in my playthrough. So I’ve just got a floating quest marker in the lodge above where she died.
Anyway, late in the main quest you go to an old NASA base and it was cool. In general, I’ve enjoyed most of the quests in the game.

npc fuckery is unmatched
Unpolished and buggy as hell. Feels like there's just a lot of unnecessary padding in the gameplay. A sci-fi future with faster than light travel but I keep having to go back to a mission giver just to have a conversation and get paid because nobody uses phones.
Also, RIP Akila magic puddle.

That actually makes sense in reality, and in game.
In reality, radio waves travel at the speed of light (according to Google, don’t @me). From our solar system to Alpha Centauri, it’d take around 4 years to relay a message.
In game, grav drives use the concept of a Alcubierre drive. Which allows a warp bubble to appear in previously flat spacetime and travel at faster than light speeds. Basically pulling the space in front of you while expanding the space behind you.
It makes sense that the latter can’t be applied to the former.
Vapes pls. People don't even call each other when they're on the same planet.
And I don't care if it isn't 100% scientifically accurate, not like the rest of the game is.
