By Kibner Go To PostI can't wait to see what they do with a second Steam Deck. I hope they keep it as modular/moddable as it currently is, have an OLED VRR screen, make the paddles easier to press, and give it an appropriate power increase. We can dream.
I'm actually fine with the screen size, resolution, and max refresh rate.
By Laboured Go To PostAre there any handhelds with VRR? Just wondering how sizable the chipwork is on those modules.
I don’t think so, but I’m not certain.

I used this to set up Ubisoft Connect earlier. Fairly straightforward set up and seems to work without any issue thus far. I’m assuming it’ll be the case for any other launchers supported by it for anyone that has non-Steam games they want to play.

Yeah I’m sure they were caught blindsided by an updated product

By MF Coom Go To Postrofl at the early adoptersI don’t feel bad for early adopters or myself for having one for a year already.
I feel bad for anyone that bought one a month or so ago that are just outside the window to get refunded the difference given the steep discount on the LCD models. 512GB model is down from £560 to £400.

I think I’m gonna get an OLED. Been mulling it over since the announcement. Not sure if I’m gonna sell my current Deck. At first I was thinking to just sell it, but I might put Windows on it so my girlfriend can use it for Fortnite.

It's crazy how much has changed internally in such a short period of time, considering it's just a revision. The perks of having a small & flexible hardware team, I suppose. The Deck is not for me, but it makes me optimistic for Deckard. I hope it'll come packed with the latest and greatest in VR / mobile despite the long development process.
I'm debating on getting one myself.
I haven't played much of anything these last few weeks/months, but what I do play isn't really graphic intensive anyway. Halls of Torment and Vampire Survivors. Gonna be taking the train more often so it'll be nice on my commute

It has me optimistic for the future of Steam OS, I’d fucking love to be able to suspend/resume games on my normal PC
By Laboured Go To PostLooks like a half frame advantage (relative to refresh rate) at equivalent settings. Eh.
Plex has a HTPC version of their app that works real well with a community controller configuration.
Steam OS supposedly supports vpn, but it requires me to install a connection manager that isn’t available in the Discovery store. It looks like I might be able to use Decky to do this, instead. Will have to look into that. The main purpose would be to establish a connection to my home network while on the road without needing to open ports and do a bunch of port forwarding.

Finally decided to buy an SSD to replace the drive in my 64GB Steam Deck. Gonna use it just for Windows/Fortnite.
Anybody else tried Windows on a deck yet?

I have not and don't think I ever will, tbh. It's to the point that I'm closer to removing Windows from my desktop PC than installing Windows on my Steam Deck. The only real hangup for me is some games not supporting anti-cheat on *nix.
I wouldn’t bother if I didn’t have the OLED deck as well tbh. Hoping putting Windows on the LCD model just sees it get some use it otherwise wouldn’t since Lego Fortnite is scratching some itches I didn’t expect it to.
Using xCloud streaming to play it on my OLED has me convinced it’s the perfect type of game for a handheld.

I like the idea of a really streamlined, console style front end for my main PC but I don’t think I’ll ever make the switch to Linux to make it happen.
I’m not very familiar with Linux still, I believe the support with Nvidia drivers is poor too? That and the anti cheat issues.

Yeah. Nvidia drivers are closed-source and are basically as bad as AMD's was back when people were using that third party ATI Omegadriver stuff. AMD has both closed-source and open-source drivers, iirc, and the open-source ones work really well.
I think there are some open-source drivers for Nvidia but they don't get any assistance from Nvidia and are entirely reverse engineered. AMD helps with their open-source drivers.

I mostly want to use *nix instead of Windows because Windows is catching up on the number of random issues and at least *nix makes it easier for me to remove/change/configure problematic features. *nix definitely requires more janitoring if you are trying to do stuff like gaming since that requires constant updating for a good experience.
*nix is fucking wonderful when used like an "appliance", though. Install only the handful of things you may need and you are good to go. Have it update every now and then, mostly for security patches, and rarely will anything break. Especially if you use an overly conservative distribution like Debian.

By unknown Go To PostLinux is dope, I got mint not that long ago.My NAS and home server are using Debian. I have used Ubuntu in the past, put Manjaro on an old laptop, and have dabbled with Alpine and OpenSUSE in WSL. I prefer the experience over Windows in nearly every way except gaming.
