Iām not missing the trees. We can have a discussion about the impacts of reopening early and why doing so will / would / obviously / duh lead to issues in minority communities rather than affluent white ones.
The gop is telling you theyāre reopening with that in mind though. Theyāre telling you why thereās a rush too. Trump was out here propping up the last jobs report. Lol. Theyāre doing this knowing how it will impact various communities and theyāre making you bring them to court to connect the dot. Thatās a problem itself.
How we gonna look at the result of decades of bullshittery that created a situation (that people suddenly decided they want to care about - but only if it means highlighting what another party did) then blame the most recent president for it? lol. that is 100% missing the forest for the trees.
minority communities didn't just start getting shit on in 2020. even delivering a baby is a dice roll, of course global pandemics gonna hit different. i cannot emphasize this enough.
reopening / not reopening isn't even some GOP led process. every state has been on its own brand of bullshit from the very onset of all this. and the same preferential determinations play a part in all of that too. charlotte's problems are not the same as fayetteville's. all democrat. 50 state strategy'ing public health/economic crisis is not the move.
if people aren't gonna get medical care or another stimulus check, they should at least be able to get a job and do their best with the shitty hand they've been given. folks supposed to just sit around sick and broke at the same time while they wait on election day?

Certain parts of the population are vulnerable because why? Ted Cruz isn't the reason why hospitals on one side of DC are better than the other. And the reason why some areas can move at a different pace than others regarding policy in even the best circumstances is because states have ALWAYS weighted areas differently. You can imagine the reasons why.

No, I'm just going back to that NYT stuff you linked. Don't give the Dems this out and pin thousands of dead on whatever the GOP did/want like Dems aren't trying to win an election too... They're not "good guys" for cruising with purposeful or inexcusable negligence until a better national scapegoat appears. The Democrats own some of the places hardest hit. Blaming the federal response only accounts for so much. Drastic differences between the impact on one community versus another? That has to be scrutinized for what it is. Maybe this is a bipartisan or wholly American problem.
I shouldn't be the bad guy for bringing it up.
I shouldn't be the bad guy for bringing it up.
By Fenderputty Go To PostThis is your initial response. I'm just going off of how.... far off that is.
Personally I think GOP leadership made the decision that In order to get re-elected they needed a booming economy and prioritized reopening. A booming economy would come at the cost of life and they could live with this demo getting hit. So they reopen, push bad mask policy and trump bravado in the face of a pandemic and now theyāre all trying to Jedi mind trick everyone into thinking they were always for masks while also pushing āitās really not that badā narrative

The bolded is rather assumptive, man. Like weāve had conversations for years about healthcare too. Pages upon pages here l, on top of the other place, of Dems stepping in their own dicks in 2008 alone lol.
What you quoted is a an assumption about a political calculus based one some facts of current events.
Do I think itās a shitty calculus? Yes! And I think the current crop of politicians warrants that response. Especially knowing we had to sue to find out! Do I think Dems would do the same if reversed in an election year? Maybe? I suppose it is kind of a luxury not having to Support trump or business no matter what. Do I think itās fair to criticize Dems for why pushing to reopen will result in a disproportionate effect to minorities. Absolutely. Never said otherwise.
So like .... yeah man
This is kind of a problem when talking about racism that isn't 'ready' to be talked about. Current politics must deal with certain things, but consistent and long term efforts have created vulnerabilities that wouldn't exist otherwise - dismissing that repeatedly is what allows people to be assumptive.

I mean, other than California, itās states that acted like this pandemic isnāt a big deal and letās go. Like a month ago Crenshaw was pushing off masks as unnecessary. Theyāve been passing off fears and criticisms to reopen as democratic hysteria to get trump out. I think Tampa is reaching hospital capacity and DeSantis is green lighting schools. I want them to push mandating masks. I want them to follow Trumps CDC guidelines for reopening and not Trump himself. Something they didnāt do. They had metrics to hit. In California Newsome threatened local governments by withholding funds if they donāt comply, but I doubt he follows through. He should. Some cities have started fining people for not wearing masks in public per local policy and I wish more would follow. It should be mandated statewide here. Ironically Cuomo deserves criticism but his actual handing of the pandemic post initial fuck up has been better.
