You don't really need a fixed screen. This stuff is enough during summer.
Generally tempratures also moved during specific times. I mean the last time we constantly had snow during winter is easily 10+ years ago. Now I can stand around in shorts and do a barbecue during christmas. If there is snow and colder tempratures, they usually hit at the end of January - February.
By DY_nasty Go To PostThat explains so much about the heat wave talk from a few years back. I had no idea yurop homes having centralized AC was so uncommon. It just wasn't necessary, but honestly the heat waves are getting so common now.

By Lunatic Go To PostThey weren't spraying here because of covid-19 lockdown and fucking hell the mosquitoes were insane recently. Unless you are covered in deet you were getting bit by at least 20 mozzies if you go out for 5 minutes. Most fucking worthless creatures in the world. They need to be exterminated.
I believe Tbis is accurate. As in like science doesn’t know what their purpose is in an ecosystem other than to be assholes

By Not Go To PostSpread disease amongst the more damaging instrusive megafaunaDead ass they are worthless. They actually ran a trail here where they released genetically modified mozzies where the male offspring was supposed to die before maturity but it didn't work. Soon though we will wipe them out.
By You got 14 bricks right there? Go To PostWent a week without power, during a pandemic and had a heat advisory from Sunday to Tuesday. When I retell this story to my future kids they will think I am Rick Grimes.During Katrina, we had no power for 1-2 weeks. The nights were terrible, but the days were tolerable because we had lots of shade and, since we were out in the country, lots of room for wind and very little concrete to absorb the heat.

By Sonyic Go To Postmust've been something during those times. can't imagine. It was surreal but I only remember some of it. Not sure if it was lack of sleep or my mind suppressing the memories. I mostly remember the constant grilling the first couple days as we were trying to cook all the refrigerated and frozen food before it went bad.
That and how quiet everything was for days on end.
i have to admit that i was too young to know what was going on over there at the time so most of my knowledge comes from watching Tremé.
Hurricane knocked out power for about a month and a half, they also stopped spraying for mosquitos.
Nightime was miserable. Gotta stay under the covers because of all the mosquitos, gotta come up for air because you're so hot.
Went through about 4 of those mosquito zapper tennis rackets.
Then we had to stay awake to keep watch because people started going around stealing people's gas tanks.

Imagine having to worry about bugs
Been getting a few spiders in the flat recently, easy enough to trap and drop out the window though. Flies and the odd wasp can make their own way out innit. Wonder how much bearing it has living on the first floor now, they used to fly in through our kitchen window all the time when it was on the ground floor
Never stayed anywhere in a season where mosquitoes have been an issue thankfully, sounds like a nightmare

The UK needs to re-imagine its approach to home building - these hot summers are no longer the exception, they are the rule.
Need to start investing in climate control companies and AC companies.

By Laboured Go To PostPleased that Refugee, Illegal Immigrant and Asylum Seeker are all correctly recognised here.So you are saying I fucked it up by distinguishing between the three?
By Daz Go To PostHow many Spidermen are entering this country?Since Tony Blair didn’t count how many superheroes were crossing the border, there could be millions.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostHow is that remotely comparable? Installing a decent AC system is expensive af and running it 24/7 when it gets hot isn't cheap either.Obviously it depends. I'm mostly talking about young people living alone or with gf in an apartment, the ones I see complaining every summer. A split unit in the room / floor you spend most of your time at home can be had for <1k€ installed.
And unless you live in a desert, you don't need to run it 24/7. I know I don't and it gets pretty hot over here.
