The temperature isn't a problem.

My kids keep me outside, but this weekend will be high 90’s in Tustin. When it’s that hot here I try and stay in. We can’t even access the community pool
By Pac-12 Go To PostFuck livingfax
My gf and I don’t have AC in our apartment and Toronto in the summer is the same as NYC. Not that bad tbh.

you ain't wrong
By DY_nasty Go To Postthe only place i could imagine doing no AC was in hawaii
but even then
Yeah you could probably get away with one of those portable units that fill a single room with cool air
By Zabojnik Go To PostHow do people spend thousands on phones / games and can't afford a fucking AC.
Cost me 6k to add AC during my remodel.
By Zabojnik Go To PostHow do people spend thousands on phones / games and can't afford a fucking AC.How is that remotely comparable? Installing a decent AC system is expensive af and running it 24/7 when it gets hot isn't cheap either.

My electric bill goes from 60-80 bucks a month to 300+ in August and September
Foam insulation + new compressors + new air handler will run you about 15k USD here for a family home. But you will honestly make the saving back in 3 years. Bill went from 300 to 120 instantly.
By Fenderputty Go To PostMy electric bill goes from 60-80 bucks a month to 300+ in August and SeptemberI'm saying lol. Electricity/hydro costs with AC are no joke.
That explains so much about the heat wave talk from a few years back. I had no idea yurop homes having centralized AC was so uncommon.

By Perfect Blue Go To PostI'm saying lol. Electricity/hydro costs with AC are no joke.BC Hydro bills were cheap as fuck. The 3 month billing was only 170 CAD for a 3 bedroom townhouse. I know y'all in Toronto pay gas which is fucking expensive as fuck.

I would need insulation in my walls. Lol 😂 I only have insulation in my attic.

By Fenderputty Go To PostI would need insulation in my walls. Lol 😂 I only have insulation in my attic.I don't know how the building code is in California but ours are made to hurricane code so the walls are fairly solid and insulated. Foam insulation in your attic is still the best because that is where you lose the most.

Over here in the city, our apartment is under Toronto Hydro which is a lot cheaper.

House was built in 1967 prior to the codification of insulation in wall. I did change out the windows to dual pane.
Went a week without power, during a pandemic and had a heat advisory from Sunday to Tuesday. When I retell this story to my future kids they will think I am Rick Grimes.

My previous house was 1982. That did have in wall insulation. To get around dual pane windows, they even added the foil lining to the plywood as well. That being said, it didn’t have dual pane windows and every door and window leaked some form of air into the house. The house I owned before that was 1952 lolol

By Fenderputty Go To PostI hate flys. I hate mosquitoes moreThey weren't spraying here because of covid-19 lockdown and fucking hell the mosquitoes were insane recently. Unless you are covered in deet you were getting bit by at least 20 mozzies if you go out for 5 minutes. Most fucking worthless creatures in the world. They need to be exterminated.
