My hope was that in the 3.5 years since a large chunk of the working populace went fully remote that there'd be a market for the type of KVM I am looking for. I imagine a common scenario is those with a Windows Gaming PC and a work MBP would love to have a nice seamless KVM switch.
EDIT: Thinking on it, maybe that's what those switches with a single PD are catering to since the Windows rigs will have dedicated power. But there's plenty of dual-Macbook owners that would want it.

By Kibner Go To PostRadeon Chill is a nice feature in this Texas summer heat. It’s just a frame rate cap, no? I know it lowers the clockspeed too but I’ve always been curious what difference it makes to power consumption vs just capping the FPS.
By HonestVapes Go To PostIt’s just a frame rate cap, no? So, if I am not pressing any buttons or moving the mouse, it lowers the frame cap. When I start interacting with the PC again, it raises the frame cap. Both the min and max are user settable.
It basically means that if I am alt tabbed or away from the computer or watching a cutscene or something, the fps and power draw are lower. I have mine set to 75 and 140 for the min and max.

Yeah, that sounds neat. Some games have framerate limiters when they lose focus or are in the background but not nearly enough, and you can manually set limits for others through RTSS. I remember the framerate limiter on Cyberpunk works on menus, but the game still runs uncapped during gameplay, which saves quite a bit of power.
Meanwhile, EA sports game menus run at 2000fps if you don't cap the framerate with an outside source lol and peg your PC to max until you load a profile.

Been a long time coming, it will complete my flight/space sim setup, until I decide I 'need' to upgrade my sticks with the new Gunfighter MKIV base.

Goated app, essential for fixing all these shoddy HDR implementations on PC. Got a lot to learn still, but it's basically color grading for games.
It's a lot more than that, obviously, but that's what I'm focused on. Death to raised black levels. I'm gonna fix the shit out of Cyberpunk's HDR when the DLC hits.

If anyone wants the DLSS3 mod for Jedi Survivor, I have acquired it through legal means, so you don't have to. Works great, I'm playing with frame generation only with everything maxed out, getting 90-110fps. Doesn't fix the frequent stuttering, but that's on Respawn.
Anyone messed around with this?

You lads mind taking a look at my parts list?
I'm building a PC for the first time. Plan on using it for video/photo editing programs, some gaming (games like FM, CIV, Cities) and I'm also looking to learn some programs like MATLAB and AutoCAD.

By Dr3upMushroom Go To PostYou lads mind taking a look at my parts list?Looks like a solid upper mid range build to me, nothings stands out as bad or wrong for what the intended use is going to be. Maybe consider getting a 2tb ssd and possibly 64gb of ram seeing how cheap both can be had for these days, especially if you're set with a ddr4 platform.

I'd recommend an Nvidia graphics card over the 6800xt because of dlss and ray tracing performance, but you'd have to spend considerably more for a 16gb gpu from the green camp.
By Dr3upMushroom Go To PostYou lads mind taking a look at my parts list?I would see if the programs you use benefit from CUDA. If so, you’ll likely want to use an Nvidia card, instead. OpenCL (which is what runs on AMD GPUs) doesn’t get as much support.

It all looks okay. I’d offer some changes to take into consideration though.
You could go for a 13600KF, DDR5 and a cheaper motherboard. Seems you would benefit from the slightly better single core performance.
Overall, going with that would be negligibly cheaper ($15~ less). Also changed to a similar but slightly cheaper cooler.

By diehard Go To PostGPU acceleration isn't a requirement of MATLAB, but it only supports CUDA.Good to know.
Thanks for the advice lads. Getting parts in this weekend, looking forward to building a PC. Is there a great difference between the different brands that make the GPUs?
By Dr3upMushroom Go To PostGood to know. Not really. People might play brand favorites but all it really comes down to is level of customer support. I believe EVGA was kinda tops for this but they aren't making any new cards.

There isn't a brand that sells Nvidia cards in the US that I wouldn't buy from.
They’re all basically the same when it comes to performance. Cooling and noise varies by the model/brand. The only brand I wouldn’t buy is Zotac tbh. Just heard a lot of bad things about them in regards to cooling/noise and customer support over the years.
Other than that, I’ll generally go for whatever GPU is the cheapest in it’s class.

GGF remains the absolute best channel for watercooling builds. ITX case, custom parts and an external loop,
I’ll have to check that out! I still haven’t taken the time to do the mods on mine to make it prettier.
I still haven’t done the mods to my Q37 that I’ve been sitting on for years now. Really considering scrapping my plans and transferring my build to a Fractal Ridge.
But I’ve already bought the riser cable, vertical GPU mount and waterblock for my 3080Ti. It’d be silly not to follow through with it at this point.

Also is DLSS really a worthwhile feature?
By Dr3upMushroom Go To PostOkay, bought a 4070 from PNY and it’s just nuts how territorial or pessimistic people online can be about brands.DLSS, yes. Even with FSR2 and XeSS available now, DLSS still generally looks the best out of those in games that support it. If a game doesn’t support DLSS, but supports FSR or XeSS then you can still use those anyway.
Also is DSSL really a worthwhile feature?
I don’t recommend frame generation though. I haven’t tried it myself since I don’t have a 40 series card. The trade off in input lag just doesn’t seem worth it, but try it for yourself in games that support it and make up your own mind.

It's been essential for playing Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing at very respectable fps and I'm currently playing through Jedi Survivor using the DLSS3 / frame generation mod.
It's not always perfect, but the frames uplift is so significant it dwarfs every other consideration, input lag included. I wouldn't be caught playing Apex Legends with it, but it's perfectly fine for single player games. For 9 out of 10 people the increase in latency will be basically undetectable.
Anyway, I'd rather have the option to use it than not, same goes for DLSS vs. FSR / XeSS.

Does it still bug out the UI sometimes tho?
I only tried it with Cyberpunk and I agree with Zabokun, it was very OK, surprisingly so to the point I forgot I had it on. Didn't feel the added latency during gameplay (maybe some slide shooting misses), although due to the nature of it the lower your framerate goes, the more noticeable it is (this might be more obvious for people turning on DLAA on top), but nvidia reflex somewhat counteracts the effects very well.
I didn't see any issues with UI in CP77, it was noticeable with certain lights and reflections where you see a trail, or ghosting especially during driving at night. The only UI exception would be when scrolling text very fast. It takes a half second to catch up and it does that AI thing that tries to reassemble letters that don't exist. But like I said, it's noticeable but catches up very fast.

By HonestVapes Go To PostDoes it still bug out the UI sometimes tho?Not that I've noticed, no. I've experienced some rendering anomalies, specifically texture shimmering, but that's very likely due to path tracing's still experimental nature and / or DLSS upscaling rather than frame generation. Actually, I'm sure of it, because I tested it with FG on and off.
I think the biggest testimonial for how good this shit has become is my brother. For the longest time the dude wouldn't even consider using DLSS following a couple of bad experiences at the start of it all. I had to listen to him talk about shitty up-resing and fake frames for a year ... then he suddenly went quiet about it ... and then he proceeded to buy a 4080 because of it, for money he said he'd never spend on a GPU.
On the other hand I've had nothing but bad experiences with FSR 2.0, despite being positive on it after it reviewed well at launch. It's looked like crap compared to native and DLSS in practically every game I've tried it in so far. RE4make, Jedi Survivor, Deathloop, X4 ...
