By HonestVapes Go To PostI’m still really tempted to get some, but I don’t imagine I’d see a massive difference going to them from my current Noctua fans.Yeah, it is a noticeable difference, but not massive. I changed my exhaust from a 120mm Noctua to the T30 and my gpu temps dropped by like 3C.
Plus, I’ve still got the idea to mod my case and top mount a 280mm rad. So I’m kinda waiting on Noctua’s next iteration of 140mm fans
I know no one is surprised at this point, but people really are going insane over this GPU shortage. Yesterday I basically finalized the deal for the 3090 <-> 3080 + 750€ swap.
Today I got an offer for a 3080ti + 800€.

when Ethereum goes Proof of Stake by Mid 2022, you can expect large miners to liquidate their GPUs.
but thats assuming another coin wont take its place in terms of profitability any time soon .

Yeah, another coin will just take its place. I'm certain.
E: also, Etherium has been saying they will go PoS for about five years now and miss their target date every time

I’ll keep my eye on the 3090 Ti (I’m assuming will be announced at nvidia’s CES event tomorrow?) but I’m leaning towards just keeping my regular 3090. That extra heat and power consumption sounds like oof.
Looks like only the 5800x is getting a 3d cache. I might just pick up the 5950x to upgrade from my 2700x. This machine will eventually become a server, anyway.
By JesalR Go To PostDefinitely gonna cost $2k right?Probably closer to 3k since the 3090 is already almost 2k.

That might get you enough bots to get you in with a chance of buying one, sure.

By Laboured Go To PostLooks like I'll have to put my new PC in the bin and start again.Between that and a 3090ti, I’m assuming you’d need a a fission reactor instead of a PSU

Samsung and Dell to launch 34" QD-OLED monitors in 2022
The first QD-OLED monitors will arrive in 2022 with the Samsung's Odyssey G8QNB and Dell's Alienware AW3423DW. With 3440x1400 pixels, 175Hz refresh rate, and 0.1 ms response time.
First QD-OLED monitors
Samsung's first QD-OLED monitor will have significantly lower response time than its new 240Hz LCD monitor. That is because it uses OLED technology, specifically Samsung Display's QD-OLED. Each pixel – or LED – generates its own light so in essence you have over 4,8 million ultra-fast "dimming zones".
FlatpanelsHD reported on Samsung's plans to launch QD-OLED monitors in November 2020 and while it has not been formally announced by the company yet, a CES Innovation Award has just confirmed its existence. It will be known as the Samsung Odyssey G8QNB.
It is a 34-inch curved QD-OLED panel with 3440x1400 pixels, 175Hz refresh rate, and 0.1 ms response time, according to the award announcement. The panel delivers 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

Long have we suffered, salvation is finally at hand.
an OLED won't get an HDR 1400 rating, I believe people would have wanted to see the HDR600 True Black rating.

Kind of weird that these ultrawides would only be 400 nits, seeing how higher brightness seems to be one of the selling points of QD-OLED.
EDIT:
Actually, It might just not be fully certified yet or is lacking a specific feature(s) that prevents it from reaching a higher VESA DisplayHDR cert, because at least the Alienware one ...

The AW3423DW should offer excellent HDR performance as well, largely thanks to its pixel-level dimming from the OLED panel. This can deliver “true blacks” and basically infinite contrast ratio (Dell quote 1 million:1) and avoids blooming and halo issues that locally dimmed LED backlights cause, no matter how many dimming zones they might have. It should be far better than the vast majority of desktop “HDR” monitors.
Impressively Dell quote a 1000 cd/m2 peak brightness spec as well, which puts it beyond typical OLED TV’s which are commonly 700 – 900 cd/m2 max. This is also then backed up with the HDR-related colour enhancements with a 10-bit colour depth support and a wide colour gamut (99.3% DCI-P3 coverage quoted). The screen also conforms to the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certification standard.

While I was at Microcenter, I also picked up a webcam each for me and the little lady. Went with the Logitech Streamcam. Our previous webcams were a 720p 30fps from 2010 and a PS3 Eye Toy.
By HonestVapes Go To PostProbably the most useful a PS3 eyetoy has ever been.😂
my little brother new was never that much into vidya, but he was absolutely sure he would love the eyetoy for whatever reason and bought it for ps2. that quickly ended whatever little interest he might have had.
I mean it’s slim pickings so I can’t blame Zabo for taking it. It’s just the weird layout is a hassle for watercooling and you’d need special custom cables to avoid using the ugly adapters that come with the card.
Keeping on air isn’t an issue though, obviously.

Yeah, I don't give a crap how it looks, though from what I've read it's gonna be a bit of a hassle installing it in the Meshlicious. Should fit with room to spare once in place, it's just getting it in there that requires some work, if you're doing it with all the other components already installed.
Ideally I'd like to deshroud it, but it's a rather involved process and I think it pretty much voids the warranty, which I wouldn't even care for, except I'll be looking to upgrade to a RTX 4000 card as soon as they drop and an intact warranty is a big (re)selling point.
Damn, almost copped another 3090. Forgive me, Kibner.

I will mostly be seeing improvements in compile time and project loading as well as much improved minimum fps and moderately improved maximum fps games (going to be GPU limited). I already have an Optane drive with all my projects, so they should really load super quick now. Which is helpful because I switch projects and branches frequently and I often alt-tab away for a minute or two while I wait for all the files to load and project analysis caches to refresh.
I don't often zip up files but this will make it much quicker to do that, too. Will probably do it more often now, tbh.
I think you might be surprised how much of bump in FPS you’ll get, even GPU limited by upgrading from the 2700X.
It’s been shown in the past with the 7700K to 8700K, that even in GPU limited scenarios with the former, performance still improved with the latter.
I don’t really know how or why it happens, but it’s a thing.
