By n8 dogg Go To PostJust got out of OUATIH. Spoilers follow. The thing about driving in LA is, traffic makes it so that it will never feel as cool as it does in the movies.
Was absolutely not prepared for how much of a slow-burn that was. Parts of it felt far more like an immersive VR experience of 1969 Hollywood than it did a narrative. That’s to the film’s credit and detriment; since Basterds the mise-en-scene in Tarantino’s films is so wonderful, and this is the very same. But, to someone who does not have nearly the same adoration for old Hollywood or Western TV shows as he does, it began to chafe a little just how lost in that world he got himself. Lots of shots of Brad Pitt driving.
However, by the end it all works out and retroactively means everything else makes sense. This was, by and large, a character study of Rick fuckin’ Dalton. DiCaprio is absolutely outstanding here; and the film is about him and his place in the world, his growth and his evolution. It’s gorgeous writing from Tarantino and Leo matches it; every tick and stutter, his tears and his body language, the way he begins the movie and the way he ends it… just brilliant from the pair of them.
What he did with Sharon Tate was wonderful too. Turning this wikipedia factfile into a symbol, a person, a hope, a dream, a lament of the end of the 60s. The ending, when the narration starts and it begins to creep towards the time she was murdered, introducing the victims, my stomach started dropping as I thought about what happened. And then to end so wistfully and optimistically, to portray the Manson family as the scuzzy hippy pricks they are… his head and intentions were super switched on right for this film.
Simultaneously a film that shows his growth and maturity as a director, with such a happy, hopeful ending and so beautifully woven throughout the film, but also self-indulgent to a fault. Thankfully it’s raised higher by the best character work he’s ever done. I went in expecting violent catharsis or some epic tale of the era he’s so fond of, and got something quite different indeed.
On first viewing, it’s high-middle of the pack Tarantino. Already growing in estimation.
But it is still very very cool.

I can only imagine this movie would work even better if you knew LA, knew old Hollywood, knew more about the Manson murders than me. Quentin’s certainly not pandering to the mainstream with this one.
Also, having the superior version of Out of Time in your soundtrack makes your movie at least 15% better than it has any right to be
The layers to the song too fam. Rick feeling like a man out of time, sharon’s life about to run out of time, the film about to step out of the real timeline... whew
Yeah it’s a great sequence. Maybe it’s low expectations but I never thought I’d be genuinely moved by a QT movie.
His other movies had real pathos too but they were very much rooted in genre. This one is... different.

It’s first and foremost a character study. Only film he’s made where that can be said, really. Maybe Jackie Brown, but even then I think she’s defined more by her actions/reactions to the plot than what Tarantino does with Rick here, and that’s partly because of the lack of plot, so to speak.

By reilo Go To PostSpider Twink?Well, he’s hardly a fucking bear, is he?
Disney must be sweating over Spidey. You know damn well they cast a young actor so they could milk the fuck out of the character/MCU for at least 30 years before he gets fucked off with it and retires from the role like RDJ and Evans.
eh im sure theyll announce they reached a new agreement like next week
neither will let billions of dollars in potential go, far from home was sonys best movie ever and they didnt even make it

I still think SM1 or SM2 are. The new MCU Spideys are amazing, but so extraordinarily flashy that some of the low-key Spider-Man charm gets lost.
By domino Go To PostKnowing all about it didn’t make the 3 hrs any less dull and wasted
Mm, I can also imagine mileage varying; it's not your 'typical' Tarantino film. Doesn't have the propulsion of a lot of his others, and the meandering start is a turn off. But it gets tighter and more focused as it goes on; about halfway through when Rick's on the set of Lancer is when it makes its intentions very clear. Loved it from then on.

Disney isn't fooling anyone. They emptied the whole clip into Peter as Iron Man Jr.
" We came to an agreement!" - To the surprise of no one in like 6 months.

I have to say though that the drama might be more entertaining than the movies. And I really liked the movies.
You got Tom Holland apparently unfollowing Sony but not Marvel Studios on Instagram lmao

I just enjoy watching millions of nerds defend gigantic corporations because of cartoon mascots. Sooner we get to robocop the better
Anybody who buys into this whole mythology built around megacorps like Disney is a dork beyond salvation.
Sony doesn't need the MCU, and now that Disney bought FOX, they don't need Spiderman. And the audience doesn't Spiderman in the MCU either, the shared universe gimmick has climaxed with Infinity War/Endgame.
It will be better, creatively speaking, for Spiderman to be out of the Mouse's grasp anyway.

I mean, that's a Sony movie. Tom Holland and John Watts were a Sony choice, for example.
Spiderverse is a Oscar winner. Sony. Unless you're one of those who thinks that doesn't count because it's animated, and animated movies are for kids. That would be amazing, spectacular even.

I'll give Sony the benefit of the doubt, but I've seen those 2014 hack emails.

Hollywood is messy whichever way you go. The only worrying part here is how looney people are acting around social media. Disney bought Marvel 10 years ago, and people are speaking the name like it invented Marvel and created Spiderman. Fascinating.
By Lunatic Go To PostHow is this even an article.when it was written by someone who knew Bruce Lee?
That’s why it disturbs me that Tarantino chose to portray Bruce in such a one-dimensional way. The John Wayne machismo attitude of Cliff (Brad Pitt), an aging stuntman who defeats the arrogant, uppity Chinese guy harks back to the very stereotypes Bruce was trying to dismantle. Of course the blond, white beefcake American can beat your fancy Asian chopsocky dude because that foreign crap doesn’t fly here.

Excuse for what? The movie wasn't a documentary, it was a fairy tale. The Bruce Lee scene was hilarious and it set up audience's expectations for what the character of Cliff could do.
The legend built around Bruce Lee is too much anyway, the guy was Martial Artist turned celebrity actor. He wasn't actually a fighter.

If it was this one, then yes, it's new.
Hot.
Wasn’t there a rumor this movie gets weird during the last half?
