Not sure what you mean by protrude? For me the size is fine at least. Fits a 55 inch comfortably with some rooms on the sides.
And yes, lack serie. Bought it 5 years ago when I moved out of my folks house. It holds up remarkably well for such a cheap piece of furniture.

but glad to hear its robust. thinking of getting. I initially thought it would be too low to the ground - but it looks good in that pic and the back open so there is air flow for consoles and receivers etc.
Going for the medium range soundbar for the CX
Denon DHT-S316 Soundbar with Subwoofer
Can any experts let me know of any drawbacks?
Thanks.

This is the audio topic mate, for soundbars I'd like to refer you to the home cinema thread. I'm sorry
The 316 is a nice little soundbar. Will defintely give your TV sound a nice boost. It can decode surround formats just fine and make sure voices sound a lot better and more on the foreground as opposed to what your TV is capable of. And despite it's small size the sub does deliver fine bass. Just be aware that this specific model doesn't feature any multi-room tech. What you see is what you get.
If you can afford it the bigger brother 516 is a good option as well. That one does pack some more serious sound and comes with HEOS on board. So you can control the soundbar trough an app and maybe add more Denon Home speakers troughout your house to play the same music around the house.
Lastly I'd like to add that if you also expect a sweet music experience you might wanna wait out this lockdown to hear a comparance between a small stereo set-up and those soundbars. With Richer Sounds and Sevenoaks you have some competent audio stores in the UK that will be able to demo you different set-ups so you have a more hands-on experience before purchasing. Trust me, you'll be surprised at how large the differences can be between different solutions.

I am doing a big move and will probably scale up in time. This will be my first soundbar and its a fairly small flat - so the sound should travel fairly well.
I think it was Horse that suggested it because of the CX' low screen profile - this soundbar was the thinnest I could find for the price.

By Anya Taylor-Sad Go To Post$2500 headphones. I CAN'T.
I’d rather have the music in front of me, it sounds more natural.

I see the appeal for high end headphones. But I take a pair of speakers over expensive cans any day. I'm definitely gonna get myself something in the 1000 to 2000 range at some point. But that would be end game for me with a decent stereo set up in the house.
I tested the Beoplay H95 a while back, can't compare that to the kind of headphones posted above. But boy those are some comfy headphones. And a really clever design with wheels to control volume etc. It just feels premium, good stuff.

I don't spend enough time listening to music with headphones to warrant a high end pair and I hate it when people sneak up on me.
By RATHasReturned Go To Post$2500 headphones. I CAN'T.It's only a rip-off when it doesn't compete with other similarly priced products.
I would love a pair of high-end headphones for my listening space. Something like the Focal Clear or Audeze LCD-X.
I’ve fawned over the LCD2 quite a bit over the years. It’s my favorite product design. I just ... don’t ... need it.
By Kuma Go To PostI am slowly getting into this hobby. Shit expensive like hellYes, it can be. That's partly why I like separates so much because it means if I want to upgrade something, I only need to replace one small piece (like an amp) instead of one giant piece (like a receiver).
By Kuma Go To PostI am slowly getting into this hobby. Shit expensive like hellI hesitate to call it a hobby because to me that sounds like someone who is solely into the gear aspect of audio rather than the actual music. I buy my gear and the unsubscribe from any and all gear forums and subreddits besides peaking in here occasionally, because I no longer have any use for it until I want to upgrade. Subreddits like r/audiophile are full of assholes who will talk shit to you unless you own a system in the five figure range.
Nah, it's not that bad. Sure, there can be dicks on there, but that's just how life works. Not everyone you'll meet will treat you kindly. But in general there's plenty of good folks on the audiophile subreddit. People who don't mind giving some tips & tricks to get even more out of your current gear. There's also budget audiophile by the way. I really enjoy browsing trough other people's setups so I check it out daily pretty much.
When you're new into audio it might be wise to also check out thrift stores and other second hand sources. Plenty of good quality equipment going around for decent prices if you know what to look for. Just enjoy what you can afford. Even entry level speakers paired with an amp will outperform any 'all in one' alternative out there. Enjoying proper stereo sound already puts you ahead of most people these days.
But as PB pointed out, just don't get lost in discussions about cables and pricey gear. Before you know it you're just buying parts instead of enjoying your music. Which should always be the main reason to desire for new stuff, to get your favorite music to sound even better.

It can take a while to match equipment until you get the sound that is right for you. For some, years. It’s not like putting together a gaming PC and then calling it a day. But yeah, some are chasing percentages by buying new equipment whilst others have different equipment that caters to specific genres of music or room acoustics (what works well and where). You’d also want to get rid of listening fatigue etc. Until then, it’s mostly trial and error. You just have to remember to draw the line somewhere.
My Sony WH-1000XM4 came today and there was a 3 month Tidal trial to try the 360 Reality Audio.
Put on some Miles Davis and this thing sounds so good.

By Kuma Go To PostIs it better to go with a dac/amp combo or a dac/amp stack.I prefer stack. Gives you more flexibility at the expense of a bit more space and an extra power plug. Also, if one of them dies for whatever reason, that is the only one you have to replace.
By Kuma Go To PostIs it better to go with a dac/amp combo or a dac/amp stack.JDS Labs Atom Amp and DAC stack and you’re good to go.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostJDS Labs Atom Amp and DAC stack and you’re good to go.
Thats the stack I am looking at. Seems like nice entry level option. I assume it can power any headphones under 250ohms right?
By Kuma Go To PostThats the stack I am looking at. Seems like nice entry level option. I assume it can power any headphones under 250ohms right? It can power pretty much anything you throw at it. I don't see a reason to get anything else unless you have specific needs or niche, like you want a balanced input or a tube amp. In terms of just a simple, transparent, desktop amp and DAC, get that and you're good to go.
I have a Sennheiser HD650 and very rarely go past 1 o'clock on the volume wheel.
By Kuma Go To PostThats the stack I am looking at. Seems like nice entry level option. I assume it can power any headphones under 250ohms right?Probably even higher than that, too, tbh. The Atom Amp does get a little shaky (relatively) when "high gain" is enabled, but very few people would even notice that.
e: if that stack can power your headphones of choice, there isn't anything "entry level" about its performance
e: higher end stuff would have more inputs/outputs, a more premium looking/feeling enclosure, and possibly more software enhancements but not anything that would really improve the sound
Thanks. Sold me on the dac/amp. Now I just need to wait for a headphone I like that is a different sound signature from the ones I have(X2HR)
By Perfect Blue Go To Posthttps://en-ca.sennheiser.com/sennheiser-he-1It better be able to drive me to and from work at that price.
By Kuma Go To PostWhat headphones are people using?I had some Grado SR-225's that I eventually gave to my gf. The low-end didn't have quite enough presence for me.
Currently maining the AudioQuest Nighthawk Carbon and occasionally subbing them out with the Massdrop Plus Universal IEMs.
I'm pretty happy with where I'm at in regards to headphones and don't really feel the need to look for another upgrade. The Nighthawks are super comfortable and the IEMs work great when going portable or having to wear something for a video conference.
By Kuma Go To PostWhat headphones are people using?Sennheiser HD650.
If you are in the US, you can get the HD 6xx from Massdrop at a fraction of the price. Same exact headphone - unreal value.
By Kuma Go To PostIs it better to go with a dac/amp combo or a dac/amp stack. What’s your budget?

For headphones 300ish. I got a few in mind like the Sundara, Beyer Tyr, and Sigva Phoenix
By Kuma Go To PostFor headphones 300ish. I got a few in mind like the Sundara, Beyer Tyr, and Sigva PhoenixSundaras sound good on everything. Take em out of the box, plug them in and use the shit out of them, ASMR headphones. The sound coming through the Phoenix has heft to it. Both are exceptional and different.
By Kuma Go To PostDo the Phoenix scale well with an amp/dac?Don’t see why not. You don’t need a fission reactor to drive them though.
By Kuma Go To PostWhat's so special about a tube amp ?Nothing, unless you enjoy distortion in your music.
By Kuma Go To PostWhat's so special about a tube amp ?Tube amps color sounds in ways some find more pleasant to listen to.
By Kuma Go To PostDo planars have a different sound from dynamics?Supposedly, they are able to reproduce really low sounds better. Things that you would normally hear as a low rumble.
I don't have any first hand experience, though.
