By GQman2121 Go To PostThe only thing interesting about this Blade Runner is Villeneuve and Gosling. If it were Antoine Fuqua or Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg we would be laughing no matter how good it looked.
Seems a little early to be saying this.
I'd wait until, idk, the movie is out.
Yes, based on the original picture I would not be interested if the two guys attached to this current film were not involved. That is correct.
edit: you edited your post. I hope it turns out well. It looks pretty. And Gosling is pretty.

It's going to be a lot of boring fucking cutting that neither builds or creates tension

I usually enjoy nolan films but war films just arnt my thing (Black Hawk Down the exception)
Finally watched Hail Caesar! on Friday. I really liked it. Wasn't bored for a second, and loved the main character they chose to tell the story.
By LFMartins86 Go To PostMan, some of those Alien Covenant reviews are not that great…Ridley Scott innit

Came across this post earlier today and think it's pretty accurate as to why the big franchise films have become so bland. I can't even remember actively disliking any of the recent Marvel or F&F or Bond or whatever films but I cannot bring myself to watch any of the recent big franchise films. They feel like gazing into an abyss, like losing two hours and gaining nothing in return.

This is going to be one of the best movies of the year
I saw this at an early screening.
I do not feel the same way as you lol. I thought it was pretty bad.
Just watched the trailer for BR. Looks pretty. Will watch the OG before the new one.
Not the biggest Ridley fan though. Made Alien which is pretty much a masterpiece and one of the best films ever made, but don't love anything else he's done.

By reilo Go To PostNo love for Matchstick Men, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut, nor Gladiator?
Decent, Decent, Good, Good.
I mean, he isn't shit, but Alien is the only film of his I would call a favourite.
kingdom of heaven anything is utter cheeks
orlando bloom is that film.
handsome, pretty, well constructed - but hollow, vacuous, sterile, moist, listless, quaggy, lifeless, flaccid. Nothing to say, nothing to add, means very little.
Takes one of the most rich, debated, ripe periods of history and basically shrugs its shoulders.
'Well isn't fanaticism bad'
Thanks Ridley. Didn't need to waste nearly 1/6 of an earth day to find that out.
Christ the stories tucked away within crusading history.
stephen of blois legging it from the first crusasde
venetians trying to (badly) nick saints in 1204
richy lionheart shaggin about, turning up late to the crusades, is such a cunt the french fuck off then gets arrested
the massacre of beziers on the albigensian crusade
and ridley chose a wafer thin heroe's journey, wish a dash of lawrence of arabia and some names he read on wikipedia.
shite.

I was going to say I really enjoyed Spy Game and that that movie doesn't get enough love. But then I remembered that's Tony Scott.
Their CV's aren't even close really.

By s y Go To PostJust finished watching The Nice Guys. That was……awesome!
To expand on this: The Nice Guys was super fun all the way through. Excellent cast of characters from Gosling and Crowe to Kieth David & Angourie Rice to the guys with only 2 minutes of screen time. Everybody plays off each really well, makes it seems like everybody had a blast making the movie. Pretty much all the jokes landed and I was surprised at just how funny this movie was. Almost as surprising were how well executed the action scenes were and how well they incorporated comedy into them, gave off OG Rush Hour/Jackie Chan vibes. Pacing was damn near perfect, there was never a lull.
It's a shame that this seems to have bombed at the box office as I would love a sequel. Pretty much a perfect buddy cop movie.
Definitely a movie that I'm itching to rewatch again. The only fault(but it never detracted from my enjoyment) is that Crowe can't really pull off an American accent.
Also, Son of Saul is worth watching. A bit easier to find and watch now. Movie doesn't pull any punches. Intimate and uncomfortable to watch in the best way.
If you liked this you should check out Shane Black's other work including Lethal Weapon an Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
I prefer It's Always Sunny's take on Lethal Weapon vs the fading memories I gave of the original movies. Might check out Kiss Kiss though. Reading through the Best of 2016 thread right now. I don't see Lion being mentioned much in that thread but I'm seeing it pop up in a ton of lists online, has anyone here seen it?

By Wedward Go To PostCan you expand on why the movie is 'moist'?
a soggy view of the period you might (should) say.
its a damp, watery, weak view of perhaps the most emotionally charged period of medieval christianity (bar 1095 of course)
Rather than engage fully, the script fluidly skirts around the religious meat of the period. Hence moist to describe an un-solid view of its major theme. Liquid to suggest a lack of cohesion, moist to describe it as half formed, unappealing even.
the religiously detached are heroic, the engaged are villains.
the major reason most fucks went on TFC was because was because they were promised remission of sins. play with that movie - don't dance around it.
its a lazy, loose, boring view.

I had high expectations for Get Out but it managed to be even better than I expected.
What a great movie.

Nic Cage summer flick anyone?
