By cashman Go To PostAlso saw the trailer for this today. Looks like it's either gonna be amazing or terrible. It's been getting lots of praise.
Speaking of F&F, it broke the 900M$ mark yesterday. It will reach 1B$ sometime this week.

Kingsman was pretty dumb, but OK. Mad Max was one of the best movies of the past 5 years. Psy keeps having bad taste.
Alien in theatres is something else, to bad the sound quality wasn't perfect.
Saw a sneak peek of Covenant aswell, damn, they really gave away most surprises and spoiled a bunch.
Did raise my interest to see the rest.

Ooh... Fincher is directing the World War Z sequel:
After previously taking the film off its calendar, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions look to be moving forward with a “World War Z” sequel, with David Fincher directing and Brad Pitt back to star, thanks to the studio’s new chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos, according to knowledgeable sources.http://variety.com/2017/film/news/david-fincher-world-war-z-2-director-1202399978/
While Gianopulos has not officially official greenlit the movie yet, he is expected to do so in coming weeks. This will likely be among the studio chief’s first greenlit movies. Sources say that production would probably begin in the first quarter of 2018.
kingsman was great
the only thing World War Z taught me was that you could use magazines as arm guards against zombies--genius idea really

Brad Pitt has been trying to get Fincher to do WWZ for more than a year. Could be good but I wished he would be doing something else.
At least he directed a few episodes of his show about the origins of criminal profiling for Netflix.

I just got done watching FF8 and I have no idea what I've watched. Everything has jumbled into one big action scene in my head.

Kingsman was a movie were there was a clear point where you could say, oh, so this where they ran out of money. That entire third act was gibberish.

They must be paying him so much fucking money to do this.
By Wedward Go To PostThey must be paying him so much fucking money to do this.Brad Pitt's been courting him for over a year. The source material for the franchise is also quite rich which is something that Fincher excels at. He probably has his standard directing fee but I don't think money is a factor for him. An interesting established property is usually what it takes.

Nah. He really wanted to do the Jobs movie but walked away because they wouldn't give him 40m. He has also talked about not wanting to do sequels.
If the source material is what sold him, why'd it take almost a year of convincing to do it?
We'll have to wait and see, but I suspect he will be getting either a huge fee or a cut of the gross.
Who is gonna see the new Alien movie, cause I don't want to be the only idiot who spends money on it.
Apparently there's a national wide promotion in Portugal that weekend were every theatre will have tickets at 2.5€ so I'll probably go and see it then.

I am. Prometheus was dumb fun, but so are most Alien movies.
Logan will be seen in a new light next month.
Director James Mangold has revealed a black and white version of the film will be hitting theaters May 16.
"Suggestion. Hard core B&W loving LOGAN fans should not make any plans on the evening of May 16th," Mangold tweeted. "Won't be on a TV. And the answer is no. To make a great B&W version of a film, the whole thing's gotta be regraded & timed shot by shot," he added.
Mangold also revealed that a black and white version will be available on the home entertainment release, but confirmed it will also be in theaters: "Yes, but it will be on big screens on the 16th."
The move comes after weeks of speculation and follows in the footsteps of a Black and Chrome edition of Mad Max: Fury Road.
Bad news for international fans of Hugh Jackman's final film starring as the Marvel mutant: it will only be available in U.S. theaters.
Logan, released last month, has earned more than $604 million at the global box office and is the best-reviewed X-Men movie in the Fox franchise's history.
Oh man, I definitely want to see this when it comes out in home media.
I finally got around to seeing The Grey...
In shorts, it's a better movie than The Revenant. Don't @ me.

If Scott can approach the movie like he did with The Martian (like dont take it way too fucking seriously and have a little fun with it),
then I think we might have a winner.
Trumbo is a really great film. And how fucked up is that something like that was able to happen in a "democratic" country
By Splatt Go To PostI just got done watching FF8 and I have no idea what I've watched. Everything has jumbled into one big action scene in my head. Now that I'm like a month removed, I agree. It's not a memorable film, even in the midst of a stupid franchise that prides itself in its dedication to an increasingly ridiculous canon and putting these characters in more and more dire situations that really make no sense for street racers to be involved in.
Also, Rock is bigger than Hulk
Ultimately, Fast 8 is just not that much fun. I have a takeaway I never thought I'd consider when this started 15 years ago: Paul Walker was the best actor in those films and the emotional center of it. Taking away Brian just leaves us without a center, without a character to relate to and instead just drops us in with Dom moping and brooding for two and a half hours and not even the lighter moments with Rock/Statham and Luda/Tyrese can save it. It's the first film in this series that feels grim, including it's only real out and out on screen death. The people on screen don't even look like they're having a good time and it's incredibly obvious that Rock and Vin don't like each other, with the writers opting to not even try and get them in the same frame.
I stand by my assertion that it's the worst in the series since 4 and, honestly, it rivals 4 as the series low point. 2 Fast 2 Furious is at least quite watchable and you have a good time viewing it, even if the joy I get is in spite of the film itself. This is a lot of words about a movie that's not very good. Sorry.

Maybe the script called for it, but it felt like they exchanged less dialog in this movie with each other than I have with Vin Diesel or Dwayne Johnson in real life, which is to say, none.

Stuff like that drags the movie down a ton.
It's just so joyless. The whole thing. It's a 150+ minutes slog wherein Vin Diesel proclaims his greatness and tells you this series has always been about him and his character, when Dom is the least interesting thing in any of these movies. It's crazy how much of the movie is Vin removed from his crew while mumbling angrily about family.
holy shit I didn't even notice that it was a body double, so bad. Also, F. Gary Gray should not be directing this franchise.
Also, what did you think of Scott Eastwood being brought in as a clear Brian replacement? FBI agent, blond hair, butt of the jokes among the crew/never taken seriously when he's first introduced, drives Japanese cars...

Hollywood is desperately trying to make Scott Eastwood a thing. He was on Suicide Squad, on Fast 8 and will be on Pacific Rim 2.
I feel bad for the dude because he's clearly in a tough spot, coming into these in the eight one, trying to replace the series lead, but Scott Eastwood sucks. Even removing the idea that he's placing Paul Walker as the handsome white guy, he doesn't have the same presence or acting ability of Walker. Eastwood is just there.
In every previous movie, Brian's liveliness and natural charisma balanced the brooding Dom bullshit. Paul Walker was not a great actor, but he had a very clear understanding of what these movies were about and what his role in them was and he played it right on the money. Even two movies ago, think about how fucking fun those parts where Brian breaks into prison are. Then realize they're cut against parts where Dom is mumbling about Letty and her memory. It's this way in every movie. 8 doesn't have that. Not at all.

I also felt like the Rock/Statham jawing back and forth, while fun in the early going (and also ruined by the trailers) started to become grating after the 7th time they were trying to just flex at each other while screaming clever insults. It ended up losing its charm and was a gag that went on far too long. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a Rock/Statham off-shoot of this series (or better yet, a mainline movie that's more about them trying to take down criminals in this cinematic universe which fits the grandiose plot the cast is trying to tackle on better if it was just the two of them, imo, or Statham doing a WWE cameo with Rock), but man did it feel like they were trying to balance the dire tone by having extremes.
Like Rodeo stated, what made the prior movies fun and watchable was that there was a healthy balance. Now it just feels like your typical sequel bullshit which the series seems to be caught up in.
