Some monitor mounts on sale on Massdrop: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/vivo-triple-lcd-heavy-duty-desk-mount
These are the specs I've been running for nearly 4 years now, never upgraded anything

To run PUBG at ultra/high/hybrid settings, would it be enough to just upgrade the GPU? Or would I have to upgrade CPU/RAM as well?
If its just the former I might buy a second hand 980 or something
edit: what the hell, just did a quick check and even second hand 980s seem to be more expensive than new 1060s
edit2: 1050 4GB seems very affordable, much cheaper than 60 and 80. Is it shit?

I have a slightly better CPU than you (i7-3770K @ 3.5 GHz), 16 GB of RAM @ 1600 MHz, and a 1070 and can run the game at or near max settings @ 1080 with good framerates at 1080p.
I have a 3570k @4.2, 16 GB ram and a 1070 and I run it at 1440p with a mix of settings - high AA, very low post processing & foilage, high draw distance, medium effects & textures and I get between 45-85 fps depending on the number of people around.
It's weirdly optimised in that I get better framerates by putting AA and some other stuff higher because it takes more load off my CPU.
I would highly recommend another 8gb of ram though, especially on the PUGB reddit that seems to make a massive difference for most people.

Been trying to sell my 1070 but no one is biting. Seems like the mining boom for cards is over, which sucks because with the AU$ improving the cost to go to a 1080ti isn't that much
i have a 6850k @ 4.4 and a 1080ti and it still kinda runs like trash. Less-so than it used to though. That game's 40-50 FPS feels like 20 in other games.
goddammit i meant 5820k .. wtf am i doing with my life
I've been "learning" Intel's new garbage naming scheme for their Scalable Xeon lineup, i blame that.

p sure my 3570k is bottlenecking me in certain places
not sure what to target since my next gpu upgrade is volta, or maybe even volta ti at this point

I never thought I'd be the snob. I thought I just liked and preferred playing games on the PC
but lately, every time I play something other than a pc game I drop it after like a week.

I can yeah
My OG Swift finally sold (on FB marketplace). $400. Uncle handled the transaction since I'm out of town.
So
No GPU. No Swift. I still have my Dell U3011 and 1080p monitors tho. Probably chill for a bit and see what the HDR monitors about later this year.
Really having a urge to get a slim gaming laptop now that they aren't extra heavy and bulky anymore.

Only get a gaming laptop if you are away from home a lot. You will get super frustrated with it quickly if not.
need to build a new pc, but i've been out of the building game for 7 years.
Looking at 1080p or 1440p with a budget of £1,200 for everything. Any recommendations from the lads with the knowledge?

It will give you different configurations for different price ranges and tell you why they made the choices they did.

In what way.
I'm not talking as a replacement to my desktop rig, but more of a compliment to it.
The new stuff seems very capable especially since full nvidia GPUs are now in laptops versus mobile versions of old.

cheers, kibbles my good mate. Shame it's in USD and not the queen's own raheem sterlings.
By Smokey Go To PostIn what way.You will be tethered with it to a wall socket after a few months of heavy use. They also tend to suck up a ton of dust, especially if you have pets, and there is no easy way to get it all out so they will overheat very easily after a while.

e: and if you open up your laptop and try to reapply thermal paste or really get the dust out, you are very likely to void your warranty, which are all important with laptops because replacement parts aren't exactly things you can get off the shelves, most times.

AMD is about to shake shit up. Threadripper pricing
1950x 16c/32t $999
1920x 12c/24t $799
1900x 8c/16t $549

By diehard Go To Postat work im about to purchase 6 core cpu's for $1700 and 12 core ones for $2500 each :/
AMD? But why?
Vega cards should be priced 100$ lower, if the performance is as rumored. AMD is probably paying the price of going with HBM2.
Even if I never buy any AMD hardware again, I am so damn glad they seem to have been able to jump back in the game and put pressure on the other CPU and GPU manufacturers. Good for consumers everywhere.
With that said, I might actually jump to AMD for the next gen of Ryzen chips. I'm hoping they can fix that nasty latency issue when communicating across the physical bridges inside the unit.

By Smokey Go To PostAMD? But why?Intel. Licensing SQL Enterprise on dual proc server , each 2 additional cores costs around $10k, and then Server Datacenter costs about $1,500. So IPC and frequency are more important to us than cores.
Threadripper now has a 3.8ghz 8-core, i wish EPYC came anywhere close (it's max is 2.4ghz).
My computer is starting to get unstable with the mild overclock my mobo auto-made. Reverted to stock settings and stable again but I may be in the market for a new cpu in the near future. Might get AMD for the first time ever.
Ryzen 2 seems to be the perfect time to jump in if you're going AMD. I think they will have learned a lot from this current iteration. It was the first time in a while they've had a successful CPU available, but there are/were still some growing pains.
Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinking. Now if they could also be competitive with Nvidia and not have shit drivers I would happily pick up one of their cards because FreeSync is much more prominent (and cheaper!) than GSync. I like GeForce Experience but it's bugginess is starting to wear on me.
Does the AMD ain't shit on drivers narrative still hold tho? Because nvidia has released some truly fuked up driver sets in the last year alone.
By Smokey Go To PostDoes the AMD ain't shit on drivers narrative still hold tho? Because nvidia has released some truly fuked up driver sets in the last year alone.Nvidia drivers don't randomly crash on me like ATI's used to. If AMD has rectified that, then my only concern is price + performance.
I'm shifting focus away from high end tbh. I've had a total of 3x 1080Tis, and I've sold all of them. Sold my Swift. I waited months for x299 and it's mixed. Back on 1080p monitors. Probably cop a 1050Ti or 1060.

The true test will be when the HDR monitors hit. And Volta. Especially Volta. GPU launches do some shyt to me.

By Smokey Go To PostLife changes u famGet yourself an affordable HDR monitor with a VA or IPS panel, greater than 60 Hz refresh rate, and Free/GSync when they exist. Don't sweat the resolution of it.

HDR is a marketing gimmick.
there are professional grade monitors that offer what HDR certified monitors have.
Wide color gamut, higher contrast, 10-bit. I just dont think they have high refresh rate
as its not needed.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Posthdr is such a crock of shit lol
Nah
I wouldn't say it's a marketing gimmick. It's a stamp that lets you know something meets a certification (a real one, not a THX-like one). Half the time you can't even find good info on whether a monitor is a true 10 bit or just 8+FRC. Also it will broaden support for 10 bit color and maybe people will actually make non professional applications support it, which is great.
By Kabro Go To PostHDR is a marketing gimmick.Kinda. If you get a certified Ultra HDR Premium (or whatever it's called) monitor, you know that it is capable of all that you just said. It makes it easier to pick out a quality display that is capable of showing content how it was intended by the creators.
