By Dark PhaZe Go To PostOh well, I've moved on and already ordered the KS8000 for 700 or so on a recent deal. On backorder so I can still change my mind but I don't anticipate doing so.I watched Dr. Strange yesterday on an XD screen and then watched Stranger Things in UHD on my TV last night; I liked the KS8000's picture more.
The XD did have better sound, though.
Fucked it
Trying to sell my TV before I get a 4k one, but the current one's wifi capabilities seem to be completely broken
In the setup screen I'm getting no option to even scan for a connection. Gonna have to either get the manual IP settings, or hope that connecting it via ethernet will kick it into gear.
Somebody seems to thrown out my instruction manual as well, and I can't find the set-specific one online

does the KS8000 have any apps? amazon video, netflix, etc
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postdoes the KS8000 have any apps? amazon video, netflix, etcYup. I use Netflix, Amazon, and Youtube on it all the time. It also has Hulu, HBO Go, NBC, HBO Now, STARZ Play, Encore Play, Google Play Movie, NFL Sunday Ticket, NBC Sports, NBA, MLB.TV, and a lot more. Like half the apps are for countries outside the US, though.
e: It uses the Tizen OS, so I imagine most apps from whatever store that uses will work.
By Hitch Go To PostFucked itWhat is the make and model of the TV (possibly year, as well)? Maybe we can help find an online one.

By Smokey Go To PostPhaze u getting PS4 Pro or nah
Eventually maybe but not right away. Don't see much of anything compelling there. I'm mostly hyped to not have my face stuck in front of a monitor to game for the first time in years. But I've got so many great games in my PC backlog that are gonna look insane in 4k...GTA V PC, The Witcher 3, Alien Isolation and Metro Last Light...just to name a few, all of which I should be able to run on ultra, albeit no hairworks in TW3 and some games might occasionally dip below 30 fps.
By Kibner Go To PostWhat is the make and model of the TV (possibly year, as well)? Maybe we can help find an online one.Its a Sony 40RD543. The year should be 2015 at the latest since I only bought it recently.
The online instruction manual has a small bit for the UK version, which implies that you have to set it up via ethernet, at first anyway. Just hauled the bloody thing downstairs to connect it to the router, it recognised that it was connected but still won't connect to the internet :(
Will probably sell it at a cut-price or just give it to my Nan, she's not bothered about internet capabilities. Pissed off at myself for not looking at 4k TVs before I bought it, this was only like 3 months ago. Might end up ignoring the Pro/4k thing altogether until the PS5 comes out. if I can't get good prices for the PS4 and TV (PS4 is without a controller unless I can convince my brother to trade the Pro controller I'd get for one of his standards, which he doesn't want to do for some fuckwitted reason), I'm looking at spending £750-800 just for what might end up being a small temporary boost.
Could split the cost across a few months by buying a TV soon, and a Pro when games that really take advantage start coming out, like (presumably) Horizon: Zero Dawn. Really want to play the best version of FFXV, but they've been quiet about what exactly they've improved in the Pro version.
Here is the manual for that TV: http://download.sony-europe.com/pub/manuals/eu/4562100111_EU.pdf
Should be equivalent to what came in the box.

Everything I haven't tried yet seems to involve fiddling with the router settings. Will try and get access to that tomorrow so I can give it another go.
By Smokey Go To PostThe 65KS8000 is $1,700 at best buy, the ks9000 $2,200
I'm shook right now
Man TV's are dirt cheap in the US. A 65KS8000 is 3399 euros over here. Even with my employee benefits I can't come close to that 1700 dollars retail price. That's just bizarre.

A NA KS8000 would have the name UNKS8000 while the EU version would be UEKS8000. The model number is always the same between regions, but the prefix is different.

Hmm, it's a bit confusing with the model numbers. Seems like the models in Sweden are UE55KS7005 (1307) and UE55KS7505 (1357). In The Netherlands they are called UE55KS7000 (1899) and UE55KS7050 (1999). I work for Klubben so I just checked the Swedish webstore and ours to compare prices (converted everything to euros). I'll ask my shopmanager if there's a difference between those models, now I'm curious.
Placed by order on the fifth... Still on pending shipment

Think someone in my family is willing to buy my TV for £150, don't mind knocking £70 off its value considering they're family and it seems to have a fault.
If it happens the 4k TV is a go. £588 right now on Amazon, gonna wait though. No PS4 Pro, no TV.

I'm not sure if this is another case of region model numbers being different or even a certain vendor using a different model number (like CostCo), but I think that might actually be the KU6300 since I couldn't find evidence of anything lower than that: http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/ku6300

Sounds like it supports HDR but doesn't really have any of its functionality
Will keep my eyes on the Sony 43" I think. Come to very much appreciate the Snych options from PS4 to Sony TV as well, lazy bastard that I am.
edit: if a TV's description doesn't have HDR in it, its safe to assume it doesn't have HDR right?

By Hitch Go To Postedit: if a TV's description doesn't have HDR in it, its safe to assume it doesn't have HDR right?Generally, yes. It's a big selling point right now so if someone leaves it off, it is either intentional (because the TV doesn't support it) or an oversight.
By Kibner Go To PostStill waiting on you to complete your thought from last night, Phaze…
Right
Still need to calibrate, have not been able to mess with much 4k content, but some quick thoughts:
- 55 inch is larger than I anticipated. Third person games feel heavenly but Destiny feels a bit straining because of the horrific console FOV. Obviously this is less of an issue the further back I sit.
- Felt the immediate input lag outside of game mode. This is 100 or so MS. Untenable. I played in 4k via PC with is something like a static 37, similar to what you'd feel in an OLED. I could definitely feel it. I found it...acceptable for singleplayer gaming, wouldn't go near anything competitive with it. So I won't be playing competitive PC titles on this set which is fine. GSYNC the god.
- 4k HDR game mode and 1080p HDR game mode are fantastic input lag wise. No complaints. Green releases in 2k. Some swipe snipe headshots in Destiny. Bloodbourne felt terrific. 1080p scaling looks great. Had to turn down the sharpness.
- Guess I won the panel lottery? Zero lightbleed. Like...none. There is a "blooming" effect or whatever on pure black screens with a white logo which lightly eliminates the blacks around it, but it's not been an issue that's come up in any media I've watched. I suppose I'd need to find a horror movie with pure blacks and a single lamp in the distance for it to happen, but again, I don't anticipate this being a problem.
- Black levels are good. Went through maybe the best area you could test this which was a near pitch black house in bloodbourne. No black crush, blacks seemed black, contrast was great. I want to do further testing on this in Doom 4k PC which provides more striking contrast. Basically though the scene looked good. I knew in my head it could potentially look even better on an OLED, but without a side by side all I could see was a striking image.
- I will be getting a PS4 Pro. The reason being a 4k (even checkerboard) experience on a screen this big with no input lag concerns just can't be beat. You get the 35 or 37 MS input lag no matter what through PC input, which isn't bad, but I personally cannot accept input lag.
Still need to cover 4k more which I will do later.

What TV screen were you using before , and how close are you sitting? I've had a 55" for 5 years and I'm ready for 65"-70"
- Will add I was not a fan of my 4k netflix performance. The improvement was there, but it didn't seem strong enough for the streaming issues I had. A lot of buffering. Maybe it was my internet, not sure. Haven't looked into seeing how people are handling 4k in general enough to really know and didn't try long enough. But the quality did not seem good enough to be giving me such issues.
- Sports are making too much motherfucking money to keep fucking around like this. They need to get some UHD cameras in every arena period. JEsus christ it's 2016 and yall are paying NBA scrubs 15 million a year. Upgrade your fucking broadcasts.

Be sure to turn on the HDMI UHD Color setting for whatever port you are using to connect your PC on. It is what allows 4:4:4 and 4:4:2 chroma, iirc.

Sometimes, the Netflix app will refuse to buffer once it hits like 25%, but I then just hold the "back" button on the remote to kill it and reopen.
Also, be sure you are subscribed to Netflix's top tier in order to actually get 4k streams. That was something they changed relatively recently, I think.
By Smokey Go To PostWhat TV screen were you using before , and how close are you sitting? I've had a 55" for 5 years and I'm ready for 65"-70"
I'm too close. I have to move my head slightly to see portions of the screen. Just have to learn to backup. We actually have a 65 inch downstairs that I've gamed on but I sit much further back for that one due to the way the furniture is situated. The 55 inch actually appears to be the same size as the 65 inch to me because of how much closer I am to it.
If you want bigger, go bigger. But this thing is in my bedroom, not a living room.
You need a strong connection to stream 4 and really the 4k stream looks close to a 1080p Blu ray from what I've read.
Need you to go and get a X1 S and throw on a legit UHD movie breh. You part of the 1% now.

Triple posting, but whatever, don't care.
The HDR+ special mode you see in the settings is not actual HDR; it is the algorithm Samsung came up with to emulate HDR for content that doesn't support it.
If the source material sends HDR metadata, the screen will go into it's own HDR configuration automatically. The easiest way to confirm this is that the backlight setting defaults back to 20 in native HDR mode. You have to change the settings for HDR mode while viewing HDR content; the settings from normal content won't transfer.
If that is confusing, let me know and I will try to explain it better.

Any suggested calibration settings? I find myself never liking pro calibrations. Rtings wanted me to put it in movie mode, which darkens the screen and seems to try to immulate the look of a projector screen, don't really understand why.
No plans for an XB1 S at the moment. Waiting on that Scorpio. Might have to cop a Ps4 Pro before FFXV drops. Lack of UHD playback is horrific though. Won't get to experience that until Scorpio.

Rtings wanted me to put it in movie mode, which darkens the screen and seems to try to immulate the look of a projector screen, don't really understand why.The "darkness" you see is probably because of the Color Tone setting. Warm gives a slightly red/yellow tint to the screen while Cool gives it a blue. Most screens that you use default to using a Cool image due to making it appear brighter and popping out.
I like to recommend the Warm setting because it does better emulate the way a film would show in the theater but more so because it is a bit less fatiguing on the eyes. I even made that change on my computer monitors with my display calibrator by changing the white point. It has definitely made a difference in regards to eyestrain for me.
Here are the settings I use. No quality calibration hardware was used. But this looks right to me as far as it comes to seeing detail in my particular viewing environment.
