5.5" screen is on the large size for me. The black does look good though. Shame no carrier in the US is going to support it outright. I'm not paying a G upfront for any phone.

I'm not getting on a device plan again once this v10 is done. Any phone I get will be purchased out right up front.
By Smokey Go To PostI'm not getting on a device plan again once this v10 is done. Any phone I get will be purchased out right up front.yep, that's the way to go and what I always do(currently have the Xperia XZ). Freedom is more important to me than getting a phone on a deal/plan.
I'm getting real close to buying the Technics SB-C700 speakers for my smallish living room. I wish they were for sale on Amazon so I wouldn't have to look through a billion different sites to see if I can find a price lower than $1,700.
By reilo Go To PostThat's Bang&Olufsen money wtfIt's rated in the same "quality" category as speakers 10x it's price. lol
A similarly-rated bookshelf speaker, but with weaker low-end is the KEF LS50. It can be found on Amazon for $1,200.
I really appreciate quality audio, so I figure I should spend as much on my receiver + speakers as I did on my TV. I found a listing for the Technics at right under $1,300. Probably going to sleep on it before I hit the "buy" button.
I used the site Stereophile to get recommendations. Went to loudspeakers and searched for $$$, which denotes best bang-for-the-buck. Looked at a few different choices, cross-referenced with other reviews using google, and found the one that I have the gear to run well and think I would be most happy with.
Ok, did some more researching and shopping around and I narrowed everything down to two choices: a budget option and a no compromises option. Both will require a subwoofer to give me the low range presence I want.
Budget: KEF Q100 ($330) + Rythmic L12 ($540) = $870 + shipping
Never need to upgrade: Technics SB-C700 ($1,275) + Rythmic F12 ($875) = $2150 + shipping
I'll make a decision tomorrow some time.

You're nuts lol. I don't think most (any?) will ever have a room with the right acoustics for those types of speakers to be utilized at their full potential.
I'm sure they are, I just wonder if people have the right type of place to actually utilize those speakers to their full potential. I know my room in my current place would be wasted on those speakers.

I know my room in my current place would be wasted on those speakers.I probably don't, which is why I'm leaning towards my budget option. I wish there was an option for a cheaper subwoofer that would give me the clarity, response, and oomph approaching the L12, but I couldn't really find a better option. :(
The KEF Q100 are totally solid, though, and I would be able to tell a difference between them and other bookshelf speakers that were $100 (or more!) cheaper.
By reilo Go To PostNot a fan of Polk Audio subs then? They don't appear to have any sealed enclosures at a lower price range? That is one of my requirements, unfortunately.
Why is it that most audiophiles i know are also progammers....
Anyway, I don't think you need to worry too much about room acoustics as long as the shape of the room is ok. Like i wouldn't worry about room material.
And money you spend on speakers / audio will probably last you a few generations of tv's.
It's one of the things on my extended list of "todo".

Scratched the fuck outta the back of my OP3T and almost cracked the camera. Front screen is fine though.
Bought a case for the first time to cover the ugliness that I caused.

By Kidjr Go To PostAnyone else feeling the s8?Nope. It's not nearly enough of a leap over their last phone. Bigger screen but same battery size and ram.
S7 was my first Samsung phone and after a year it runs fine but the battery is garbage. And by garbage I mean drained in about six hours with average use. If I'm on the bus listening to music off my SD card and using the web browser to read simultaneously - half that amount of time. So like three to four hours. That's unacceptable for a device I've taken good care of since I bought it last year.
Also, Samsung stuff more of their useless apps in their phones than even Verizon. I can't imagine what this phone looks like on their network. It's nearly 20 apps (VR, email, health monitoring...etc) that can't be disabled or removed and runs on its own for no reason out of the blue eating both cpu and battery. Apparently the S8 will have even more of this crap including their own assistant called, Bixby. Why? There's literally no reason for any of this to exist. None. I also don't want a curved screen which is being added for some reason to the standard model.
I'm getting away from Samsung and either returning to Sony or going with the next Pixel. It would be nice to have the latest version of Android day and date without having to wait nearly eight months.

Isnt there a way to get rid of the bloat?
Rooting and breaking the warranty. I have full coverage through T-Mobile and if something were to happen the phone would no longer be covered, so it's not worth the risk. I think the idea is that they want/expect you to upgrade every year. The way this battery has deteriorated tells me something is up.
It looks like I could flip this one on ebay for about $300 which is just over the balance I still owe. I might do that and then buy an unlocked Pixel or import that Xperia Premium in June.

I've never really stepped outside the apple fold (one terrible HTC purchase) but I find that the battery issue is just phone thing across most phones (my iphone battery was also shit before I got the 7+). Usually made worse by people using the wrong chargers.

Even woth jump, the store clerks don't even check.
That's probably true, but it would be my luck that I would be the one that they go TSA on and then be screwed.
Apple’s iOS 10.3 is rolling out today, with a new find my AirPods option and CarPlay improvements. Most of the features in iOS 10.3 aren’t major, but Apple is actually undertaking a pretty huge shift for all iPad and iPhone users today. Within iOS 10.3, Apple is moving supported devices to its new Apple File System (APFS). It’s a file system that was originally announced at WWDC last year, and it’s designed with the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, and Apple TV in mind.
As APFS is designed to be low latency, this should also improve read and write speeds on iOS or Mac devices. Apple demonstrated this during WWDC last year with a Mac, showing how APFS saved time on a simple file copy compared to HFS+. Most iPhone and iPad users won’t notice a difference after today’s iOS 10.3 update, but there could be a boost to storage levels for some. Beta testers of iOS 10.3 reported seeing more storage available after the update, primarily due to the way APFS calculates available data.
http://www.theverge.com/2017/3/27/15076244/apple-file-system-apfs-ios-10-3-features
How would we transition from HSF+ to APFS for both Mac and iOS? It's going to take more than a day or so to back up everything to a hard drive and reformat to the new system...
I don't think that that sort of thing is changeable via OS update alone.

The update was pretty seamless on my phone just now. It took roughly 10 minutes to do everything. Not sure how it would work on OSX.
My OPO still holds a full days charge after 3 years.
WiFi + Deezer + surfing = 5 hours.
WiFi + occasional use = 12 - 14 hours.

Oh, APFS is only available on Beta at the moment and isn't guaranteed to be forward compatible.
I really can't wait until APFS completely launches this year. Shit is going to run faster and more efficient moving away from HFS+.

S8 and S8+ look good but I've gotten used to stock Android and I'm not sure I want to go back to a skin.
The screen size and slim bezel actually does look pretty good. Still don't think the rounded screen or the rear fingerprint scanner are ideal though.
Sold my Nvidia Shield to a friend, ordered myself a Raspberry Pi 3.
After seeing what it could do, it could do the same and more than the Shield (not as fast but hey) and at a fraction of the cost.
The pi with SD card and case cost me 65 €.

Apple Displays are not dead after all, and Apple is doing a mea culpa with the Mac Pro:
“If we’ve had a pause in upgrades and updates, we’re sorry for that — what happened with the Mac Pro — and we’re going to come out with something great to replace it.”https://techcrunch.com/2017/04/04/apple-pushes-the-reset-button-on-the-mac-pro/
Apple Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller is talking to a small group of reporters in a white stucco building near its headquarters in Cupertino. The purpose of the discussion, while somewhat unclear initially, reveals itself a few minutes in.
The news, if you want it straight: Apple is acknowledging that the Mac Pro they introduced in 2013 has run aground on the cleverness of its own design, and they’re re-thinking the entire machine. In addition, they’ll be releasing a new external display — something it had previously opted out of.

Pixel?
LG G6 drops on Friday. It's packed with identical internals as the Pixel.
Also, if you purchase before the end of the month, LG will ship you a Google Home for free.
Even with last year's Snapdragon processor, I'm going to look at and consider it. Their next V series flagship isn't due until the beginning of Q4.
