By Smokey Go To PostWhat makes LW goodLW1 basically overhauled the entire game and gave you a ton more equipment types/abilities/classes and put in harder/newer aliens to compensate. It also introduced a fatigue mechanic to discourage you from taking the same squad on every mission, so I ended up having a roster of 50-60 soldiers that I actually knew and recognized.
Why are people hyped
It also made the global strategy part of the game more difficult, so you had to make choices about which continents to save at the start of the game until you got strong enough to take them back from the aliens.
The only part of OG Long War that I didn't care for was the air game. Everything else was amazing.
Time to tune back into Beaglerush and ChrisOdd. lol

way harder and way more options, both strategic and tactical. so it's the eptitome of hardcore XCOM.
By Smokey Go To Postoh so it ain't for me
Got it
yeah play vanilla if you want the "laid back" version of xcom
Anyone who still hasn't got it (like me), it's part of next months Humble Bundle Monthly. You can pay 12$, get XCOM 2 right now and the rest of the games will be available at the start of next month.
I haven't even finished modding Skyrim and I already had three playthroughs planned. Now I gotta balance that, LW2, and Planetside 2.
And Zelda comes out in a month and a half 😨

not a lw2 question but when should i tackle that first advent blacksite mission
im getting demolished--do i need at least 6 dudes + upgrades all around?

I think I waited until I had Mag Weapons? It's been a while.
You can put it off for a really long time I think. Also, doing it too early will destroy you.
I was doing great until one of my own guys shot out the floor that others were standing on during overwatch. It was the worst day.

By blackace Go To Postfuuuu… first mission is lit af!!!!
wait till you do the second. if you don't infiltrate correctly...
Long War 2 really changed the game. Bare X-Com 2 was a great game... but Long War 2 is like god tier. Missions feel like guerrilla warfare... the variety of classes (so far) is balanced and amazing. You need a bunch of troops to maintain, because you take part in multiple missions at the same time. So you need a huge roster, I haven't gotten to harder levels yet but the early missions are rough but fair considering the situation you are facing...
The big thing I noticed is just how exciting and intense the missions seem now compared to the plain version
Just forget about becoming attached to anybody and just be thankful for the time you had together.

Still getting some of the new playing mechcanics down.. but infiltration is so important and seems like you do it better with less troops in your squad... but the level really ramps up if you do a mission with a low infiltration %..
By blackace Go To PostStill getting some of the new playing mechcanics down.. but infiltration is so important and seems like you do it better with less troops in your squad… but the level really ramps up if you do a mission with a low infiltration %..Just started my campaign last night. Based on my reading infiltration is the key to making missions doable, and you should always spend Intel to boost it if you can afford it.
By Smokey Go To PostBack up and running on PCyou aint built for this
Feeling good
Might try my luck in XCOM 2 …Again :x
By cdyhybrid Go To PostJust started my campaign last night. Based on my reading infiltration is the key to making missions doable, and you should always spend Intel to boost it if you can afford it.I learned the hard way... never do a 30% mission.
Did you see if squad size changed how well you infiltrated?
By blackace Go To PostI learned the hard way… never do a 30% mission.Based on watching Beaglerush, it does. Higher squad size and heavier gear makes it take longer. Lighter gear like SMGs, smaller squads, and officers/perks can reduce infiltration time.

By blackace Go To PostOh shit.. Nice, thanks! I still don't really like the Shinobi class, but that makes them of vaule..conceal scouting is key
By DY_nasty Go To Postconceal scouting is keytoo many eyes
so i was right in assuming that mission xp is split between all participating squad members
ugh, now im more tempted to run 4 man squads just because...
edit: just watching the first few eps from christopher odd. beags would have a stroke watching this guy play lol

watch this, it explains the infiltration system

By Trey Go To Postwatch this, it explains the infiltration systemyeah, i'm just getting a feel for the encumbrance system too
two fully loaded technicals will add on a huge amount of time + mobility hit compared to other classes
you really have to maintain a full, complementary armory... especially with the way certain things have been nerfed/changed (grenade cooldowns, debuff turn reductions, cover not being as easily destroyed, etc)
LW is to hard for me brehs, at the third encounter and already lost 4 of my dudes.
Not even playing on the hardest difficulty.
Not even playing on the hardest difficulty.
I started on the second-easiest difficulty for Long War since that's what it suggested, but I'm getting full infiltration without any effort. Considering restarting and bumping up the difficulty.
Edit: Actually, I wonder if my infiltration cushion is so forgiving because I have almost the entire haven on Intel, so I discover missions sooner 🤔

Fatigue is wrecking my Ace crew though.
I went ahead and tried to make pre-made squads (trying at least)
Escort VIPs, Free resistance guys is my mobile/speed heavy group. Shinobis, Assaults, Support Grenadiers mostly. Getting from point A to point B (and sometimes C) is more a game of speed than it was before. There are times when its not only practical, but substantially easier to avoid and delay enemies while pushing through objectives compared to vanilla.
Hacking or protect device? Anything that's basically a one way trip - specialists, rangers, and technicals for dat ass. Because of the yellow alert mechanic, you gotta be more prepared for the second pod than ever. Also, pod sizes vary HUGELY compared to before. Get good cover -> soft overwatch trap -> debuff, prevent enemy actions as much as possible and prepare to flank -> expect hell to follow and if it doesn't, drive on.

I also need to take another pass through my character pool since I DLed a bunch of customization mods that weren't around when I created them.
By DY_nasty Go To Post2 man stealth is possible and worth it omgWhat type of mission?
By cdyhybrid Go To PostWhat type of mission?A rescue of all things. Just loaded a shinobi and a specialist with flashbangs. Last stretch I had to bang the fuck out of a pod then sprint for it but no injuries.
shinobis are life
fuck, just realized
because xp is weighted differently, this is massive. kills aren't worth nearly as much as they used to be, if you can ever get good at small unit management early on you can field a large group of lance corporals much sooner than normal.
